  • Thanks, ordered a slab from DM Cairns to pickup this arvo.

  • +2

Was that best before date of 31 Oct on the DM Web site this morning? I didn't notice it there at the time I purchased.

    • No it wasn't, that's why I'm so pissed off cos I ordered 3 slabs, well 4 slabs including the one I bought yesterday :(

    • It wasnt. I also noticed it after ordering and cancelled the order after calling the online support number. Dont want to consume so much alcohol in few days.

  • Best before 31/10

  • +3

I'm gonna cancel my order! BB of 31/10 is not acceptable. Didn't see this on the site when I ordered…

  • +1

It's 'BEST' before not 'USE BY'. So technically you won't fall over and die if you drink it say a week after, as Ozbargainers I thought we were way past this!

    • -1

Yes but beer often goes flat after the BB date though or can taste a bit funky.

  • +1

Went through a whole slab of these yesterday. Same best before and they tasted fine. Ordered 6 this morning, keep them cool and they'll be fine for another month and way better then any other beer for $40.

  • I went to my local Uncle Dan's and they had 4 loose six packs and one in the fridge. One has expiry for the end of the month and the rest are for December, cheers for the great deal!

  • thanks OP, I bought a box to be collected at Ascot Vale, VIC next friday (28/10)

    • just received a text saying it's ready for collection. That's great, I can try the drink this weekend😆

      • That's my local too. What was the expiry date? How did they taste? Cheers

        • I got them today. It was 4x6 packs in a box. I checked the expiry, 2xNov 16, 1xOct 16 and 1xDec 16.

          Haven't tried it yet

  • "Please note: Best before date is 31st October"

Not the best new for hop forward beers. YMMV

  • FWIW hop driven beers really start to lose a lot of flavour when they approach / go past their use by. I've been stung buying Sierra Nevada PA from a Dan's in regional NSW that tasted way blander than usual - turned out they were 2 months out of date…

    Stock levels are an issue.
Got a call back after an online order at Double Bay, NSW Dan Murphys - Online availability isn't linked to stock.

    • ditto. told me about the lack of stock and out of date, so cancelled with no issues… now I'm just wondering if my amex credit will be honoured/lost forever?

  • The 'carton' I picked up yesterday expired last month.

  • Can you cancel an order at dan murphys? Ordered 2 slabs before they stated the best before is 31st October. Was on hold for a while with customer service but had to go and it said they were experiencing higher then normal calls.

    • As long as you haven't received the items then yes, it can be cancelled.

    • Yes just rang and cancelled mine. Full refund.

Guy on the phone said they made an error with the deal it didn't originally have the expiry date listed online.

  • I got this carton and the other beer on OZB in a cartoon too but yer I didn't see the use by date so I just rang DM to cancel and they said I had to go in store as it's click and collect to cancel if ;(

    • Not true, you should be able to cancel over the phone.

    • I cancelled mine over the phone, was C&C

      • Bastards
        I'll ring them again

  • I like beer

  • Has anyone cancelled their orders yet?? If so? how?

    • Yes see my reply above.

  • +2

Ordered for click and collect at Melb QV, when I got there the bloke said they couldn't sell it as there is only the MONTH of expiry on the bottles, not a date, so as of the 1st they couldn't sell em.

Nobody else seems to have had this issue so I'm guessing bad info from the manager, but I couldn't be bothered arguing over it so left with a refund.

    • +2

      lol what a debacle.

    • That's true, mine does say 10/2016 and from memory it does say "BEST BEFORE" and we are already 21 days past October

      • Is it even legal to sell after best before ?

        • i know right???

        • @HarveySpecter: seems like it is legal as long as its ok for human consumption

        • +1

It's legal to sell 'best before', but not 'use by'

  • Just rang and cancelled my order then, figured for a hop forward beer it's not worth the risk.

  • I'm going to wait until it's in at the local DM, then I'll check the best before and if it's close or out I'll dispute it then. There was nothing about best before there when I hit the buy button.

  • I had to return mine, dates were March 2016

    • Wtf lol

  • Bought a crate yesterday with the best before 10/2016.

    Still tasted great though.

    • Mine contained 3 six packs and 6 singles (from BWS). 4 of those singles are dated 12/2016 but the rest in the crate are 10/2016. Hope they still taste alright. Never thought to check the expiry tbh.

      • To follow up had three of the 10/2016 and they tasted fine.

Picked up a make shift slab up this afternoon sitting in a corona box with dust all over the bottles. Got it home to find a September expiry so its already a month out. Pretty disapointed.

  • My click n collect slab from DM Cairns was in a SP Lager Box.
Best before date label Nov 2016

  • Ordered online this morning - no details about short date on website at the time that I saw
Got 2 slabs home after C&C
One in carton - one made up of 4x6packs
Carton and 1x6 pack was BB SEPT 16 (3x6 pack BB NOV 16)
    November ones taste fine
Checked website - was 'down for maintenance' - once back up had short date information

Called DM and they said I can take them back once they have 'new' stock and swap them over or get refund
Now we play the waiting game…

  • Got 5 packs, 3 were 11/16 and 2 were 10/16.

Poured one bottle of 10/16 to a glass and took a drink. Full of flavor I must say! Pretty strong (alc wise) too!

  • Got 6 pack from local DM expiry 3/2017 cheering

  • Dan Murphy's stores are generally good at not skunking beer. They have enough space to not leave it sitting in the sun. That's what kills hoppy beer even well within date.

Small chain shops and drive though bittleos are great at leaving beer in the sun after a delivery. Killing hoppy cartons

  • Just came back with a carton, dated 10/2016.

Now enjoying my first. Full strength. Not flat. Good head when pouring. Tasty!

Can't see this going 'off' over the next month.

The people who are returning or cancelling orders don't know what they're missing.

    $40 well spent.

    • Lucky for you, mine taste awful. Same date.

  • Got a case of this one too…a good sessionable beer for a fraction of the price.

  • Picked up today march 2017 for both cases very happy

    • Alexandria syd

  • Picked up a slab from Wanneroo after Joondalup had run out, Dan's customer service reassigned my online order and it was ready to go when I rocked up. Guys at the store even subbed in two chilled six-packs for me. Got home and tried it out and it is an absolutely ripper beer; I honestly think it tastes like ice cream. Super good, not as full-on as Sierra Navada. Can definitely drink a few in a row without tiring, unlike Sierra. Might grab another slab it's so good.

  • So I just gave a box of this to my partner about 15 minutes ago as part of his birthday present (ordered for click and collect last Friday from Kwinana, WA).

    Expiry date is 9/2016. :(

    • Its a usebye date so bit different from expiry although abit shitty thats its that far out

  • I rang Dan Murphy's and they advised me to return the item with the receipt for a replacement. I'll get my partner to sort it out.

  • Well, I got lucky! My carton is good until 3/2017.

The store was The Gap (Brisbane) by the way. They still have it available as click and collect, so I assume other orders from this store should have a good expiry date as well.

  • Bought a sixer, nothing majorly wrong with it but def not the same taste as a fresh sixer. Still drinkable though. It's a quality drop when fresh with great hop flavours.

  • Ordered a case of 24 last week online at Hornsby store but they were out of stock. It just got restocked on Monday and the expiry is 3/2017.

  • I've had maybe 4 beers out of the carton and every one has a been a 'boy' when opening. Expiry 10/2016 and imo they're pretty average tasting, if there was nothing else in the fridge I would drink it but that's about it. Certainly won't be buying ever again.

  • Just picked up my C & C from Dans and both had March 2017 expiry. Managed to grab another carton they had in stock with the same expiry date…awesome!
F you Woolies for cancelling my order for a third consecutive time, grrrrr

  • Got 2 slabs yesterday, exp 3/17. Click and collect in a week is the way to go when they don't have stock to fufill your order. Ordered 4 more. Such a good beer, and im not a big hops fan. Has a nice hint of malty flavour with not to much bitterness going on. Steal @ $40 a pop

  • +1

Every beer I open over flows alot its like they shook the case before they sold to me

    • Same - first one I had was ok but the ones since have overflowed
Gotta remember to open them over the sink

      • Haha yeh same first 2 ok rest just explode everywhere gotto crack the seal and let gas out

    • oh wow, I experienced the same thing and I thought it was me grabbing out of the fridge too quick with too much force. Pretty weird aye

  • Thanks OP. Picked up a carton in Oxenford QLD with expiry 03/2017

    • +2

      Also in Coolum, QLD 3/2017

  • collected my 2 cases today that I ordered last week
    03/2017 'best before'

    Definitely a bargain beer

  • This beer has a massive over carbonation issue, also my batch of three cases with expiry in march 2017 has varying tastes from nice to extremely metallic bitter.

    Considering returning.

I recommend to anyone with these chilling as cold as you can and gently just opening cap and leaving to degas for a while before consuming.

    • yep they end up all over the place
