Yeah, my comment was from before that was edited in mate.

how do I get the student discount?

edit: never mind, got it. had to go learn more option under uni student section, then enter email, get code, meanwhile $20 off was already applied, so it made it $65 and then 10% off meant 58.5

  • Does optus still offer bundled discounts? I'm on a $90 cable plan. Could be worth it jump on this?

    • +5

Unfortunately you need to be on the new cable plans to get this discount.
Kinda sucks when the equivalent of the $90 cable plan is now $140

    • +2

short response: no bundle discount on $90 cable plan.

      Long response:

When I visited an optus store 2 months ago and asked the question, I was told yes you can bundle and discount.
when I signed up a week later I was told, no you can only get discount if you re-contract and bundle (went ahead anyhow's with the phone because of discount)

When I spoke to optus about a week ago over the phone to clarify with a rep who had proper access to my accounts was told as the plan is no longer on offer, I would not be eligible for a discount (if I changed the name on the cable plan to match the mobile name).

From what I can gather, a discount for bundling can only occur if both plans are active and available for customers to sign up to.

This might mean I'd get a discount if they force me off the $90 plan when the 24 months is complete in Dec and force me onto one of their current plans, but none of their current plans come close to what the $90 bundle offers - its fantastic value for money.

What telcos inform they will give you and what they'll actually give you are two different things.

For example if you keep visiting Telstra's website looking at internet prices day after day the prices drop once and then again to significantly better value. You can be informed of plans as bad as $149 for 200GB at 33mbit - yes, idiots pay this much for internet - and get all the way down to $110 for 1000GB @100Mbit.

        • $110 for 1tb @ 100mbps is pretty sweet. Is there a direct link to that plan?

  • The website shows save 20% with bundled discount and shows this as conditions.
You can save $20 off an eligible Optus home broadband every month when you also have an eligible Optus mobile phone plan at the same billing address and in the same name. Not available in conjunction with any other bundle discount offer.

So around $1400 all up over 24 months. I don't use that much data and am happy enough on 1.5gb p/m with unlimited calls (don't call international) for $24.95. So would be paying an extra $33 a month making the handset cost $800 all up over the 24 months.

Good deal, worth it for high data users. S7 edge for $60 p/m would have tempted me to consider.

    • Nice

    • +1

With a better phone you might use more data though, so the value goes up.
Thats the position Im in considering it. I currently use around the 1.5GB but my phone is so slow and inefficient it discourages me from really doing much and I have all the wifi restrictions on. Without a garbage phone holding me back my use would double instantly.
You can get Coles prepaid 2GB for $20 BTW which beats your current 1.5 @ 25 (Amaysim?)

  • If it was like the last deal 10% come off first before the $20 credit.
$56.50. same price I got my plan last time but with an extra 1gb

    • They have actually changed that now. It took me ages to figure out why there was a two dollar difference in this month's bill to the first month.

      • Have they retrospectively changed it even if you signed up on the old plan at $56.5?

And i ended up getting the extra 1GB last time as it took them so long to process my order and the extra 1GB came into affect in the meantime.

        • +1

That's what it seems like. It doesn't show the $20 off any more, just the cheaper price then the 10% discount.

Free EPL coverage, free Cricket Australia pass, a 3-month introductory offer to Google Music. The last two through Optus Perks. Good times.

Last time around i also paid the $5/month extra for the Gear Fit2 ($120 total) and sold it for $180.

  • +1

Yup, got this contract sold the s7 and now using my new pixel xl with enough data~

    • Planning on doing this, how much did you get for the s7?

      • $650 cash on gumtree

    • People are very trusting to buy a phone while it is still on a plan.

      • +1

Don't know why you get downvoted, buying phone on a plan has its own risk.

E.g. international student can get the phone on the plan, sell it, then never finish paying the contract.

Phone then got blocked by the network said person signed up with.

You get to play Contra for 24 months? Awesome !

The only conditions for a "student" discount is an edumail email. I'm a teacher and my mum is an integration aid and was able to get a discount, so perhaps sourcing an edumail email off a friend or family member could get you a discount!

    • They actually asked me for a copy of my student card when i did this… i don't think they usually do though.

      • if you order it online, then an email will suffice

        • +1

Yeah i did order online. Had to scan it and send it in.

This is a great deal ONLY IF you are an existing Optus broadband customer.

    Great deal, great phone.

  • The high data on this makes it a great deal for good phone

I have no ideas how got $58 at checkout, even with the student discount, instructions would be nice.

    • Me too..everyone looks cool but at the end no one seems applied for.

      • I got mine through the online chat last time. Some people claimed that they were able to get the student discount in store too.

    • +3

Click on the link that says 'learn more' under uni discount. This brings up the student hub. Scroll across to s7. And click on it. Shows all plans and pricing with discount added. Add to cart 85 dollar plan for 58.5 dollars.

      • Thanks

      • Thank s man!

        • +3

Make sure to add the epl too. It says its 15 dollars but should reduce to 0 at the checkout. Not sure why it does this but thats what i had to do when i got it a month ago.

        • @undefined: I did ,thanks..everything was fine..$56.5 WOW!!!

Damn, wrongly neg vote, can't reverse it.. :(

      • Up Top. Click votes. Then revoke.

        • thanks, it work now.

      …NOTE 7…..

Why would anybody want this phone?

      • urgh

  • the price with student discount should be 56.5? am i wrong?

    • When i got this deal a month ago they took the 10 percent off the $85 plan then took $20 off, so $56.5.
Now they seem to be taking the $20 off $85 then applying the 10 percent to give $58.5. Must have clued on to it.

  • Paying Telstra $30 every 28 days so this looks really tempting.
I do like the old Samsung Galaxy S4 and the extra data is nice + i am a student so discount works for me.

Plenty of data for me but does anyone know if it gets the Data free streaming for netflix?.

Edit nvm found that its a paid add on.
Oh well still a great deal.

    • Not with this bundle. It is only included for free on the $100 and over plans. You can pay an extra $10 a month to add it to this plan. May be worth it if you use a lot of data on netflix. Data free streaming of the english premier league and google music saves a lot of data and that is included with this bundle.

      • I read that after i posted oops haha.
Think i should be fine since i only want to watch a little bit on the Bus each day.

    • On the netflix app you can adjuat the streaming rate and still not bad.

On my s5 i have it set at 1gb for 4 hours of streaming and its pretty good.

I just have 11gb data per month so i need to save as much as i ccan.

  • Anyone got a spare promotion code they can PM me?

    • Why the neg?

      • +1

        Mistake, I've undo it.

  • i was thinking about buying the phone for $750 plus $20 for delivery from buymobile.com.au or the Nexus 6P and add a $30 plan from any MVNO but these plans keep getting better. yesterday the woolies deal ended and now optus begins, amazing.

  • how is it 58.5?

  • great deal, thank you OP, just wondering if update from previous 40/month 10GB 12 month plan to this one, is there will have addtional charges on the upgrades

  • Anyone knows good Tempered Glass Screen Protector for S7?
I bought the Tagg full coverage one from eBay but due to some curving around the edge screen is not registering very well.
I also hate glass protector that leaves too much gap.

Or is my only option is plastic one?

  • Anyone know how strict Optus are on the student discount?

I have another plan with them with the student (for dad) and am wanting to sign up to this. The other plan was done through Unidays, and I have a code from my .edu address.

    • with the student (for dad)

Does he know you misrepresented his entotlement!?

      • student discount** whoopsies

  • +2

can someone please clarify how i get this for $65/mth…(I'm not eligible for the student discount and $65/mth sounds pretty decent tome) I clicked 'add to cart' and it's still just says $85/mth deal. Is there a promo code or something i need to put in? (sorry if it's obvious or been said before…been a long weekend)

  • Just chatted to someone at Optus and the payout on this is $45/m if you break contract. so you're paying $1080 for the phone and $312 for the data/calls/text/etc

    • Yes, payout figure is based on phone RRP, so if jump on this plan you'd better to keep on at least 12 months, then either using New Phone Trade Up for a new phone with new 24 months contact for $99, or sold your phone on guntree or eBay, and hopefully cover or get closer your 1 year payout figure, which is $540.

  • Hey guys is this deal still valid? I am unsure how to get the deal for $58.50 with the student discount. Got to deal comes up with the phone for $72 instead of the $65 as stated in the OP.

  • Anything similar with no contract? Dont need a mobile aswell.

  • Hi

What do you think about $35 for unlimited calls to 10countrie + $100 international calling + unlimited calls + text
    And uses telstra 4g coverage
