Is this a legit bargain or do you just have a semi for this phone. Try http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=2553638
Outright price from Verizon for NA Variant $889AU so I think it will be cheaper once other vendors get stock

LG plus QD-AU…..hmmm, no thanks. Never again.

  • +2

Sounds great, I like that it's dual-sim and takes microsd. I'll never consider another LG after the problems I had with the G4.

    • +3

And the G3. Both great phones as long as you don't need them to work after 6 months. Given this, you wouldn't want to risk another LG from an OS with no warranty.

      • and the G2 too. I owned two of them and both broke within warranty but LG refused to fix them under warranty

Thankfully they did fix my G4 under warranty though.

Fingers crossed my V10 doesn't break!

        • +1

you don't learn, do you? :)

    • What problems did you have with G4?

      • Boot looping.

  • Just wait for another 15% sale and it will be a semi-decent price. Still, $850 is a lot for a phone these days.

  • +4

According to Ausdroid it's coming to JB Hi-Fi in 2 weeks that's around the same price — $1099 has tax included but $999 from QD is ex-GST. It would also be AU stock so less hassle for warranty claim if it bootloops in 12 months time.

    • JB Hi-Fi version is only single SIM. This variant has dual SIM

      • Incorrect. JB selling dual SIM model H990DS

  • +2

wait for 3 months and price will get down for LG phones

  • +1

The way LG has treated consumers over the boot leg scenario of previous phones hasn't been good and I would consider this a major issue with the manufacturer.

    • +5

Exactly why I won't purchase another LG. The boot loop fault affected EVERY G4 handset they produced and what they should have done was recalled the units. Who knows how long the repair will last, I've moved on.

      • Not every G4 is effected. I have been using G4 for a year and never seen boot loop issue. Same with few people I know who have G4.

        • What was the build date?

        • Mine was a year when it carked itself.

        • I've had WIFI and Bluetooth die on 2. Bought from JB Hi Fi on Telstra plan. The second time they had me waiting about 6 weeks with no ETA on a motherboard at the repairer. When I went in and insisted that was too long they said they'd sort me out if I come back in an hour. They cancelled my Telstra plan and put me on some shitty month to month thing with no inclusions. A real mess to sort out and in the end they had to give me an unlocked phone not through Telstra. (They had no sign off from me to change plans and needed to get one because Telstra can't reverse a cancellation). Another week to sort it.

So yeah the failure rate on the G4 is very VERY high if not 100%. (The only other phone I've ever killed I dropped into water when giving my son his first bath - totally my fault).

Could be worse I suppose. A Samsung phone could have burnt down my car or home or killed someone I care about.

    LG + QD = very risky…

  • +7

Fair bit of QD_au bashing here but to be honest it's not their fault they were flooded with phones that had little to no quality control. Really trying hard to like the LG phones I've had, they've been great but LG need to pick up their QA game. V20 looks great on paper but yeah if you're going to pay 999 for grey import may as well pay 1099 for local stock at JB Hifi

    • QD customer service is non existent. I've been waiting for a reply to my eBay message to them since 17/10. Now the 25th???

      Yep, QD-AU are crap.

      • Thanks for the feedback. I was going to buy it from QD.

  • Would warn all away from getting any grey market LG. My Lg v10 just started boot looping and it's too difficult to even get them to admit it's a problem in their manufacturing process.

  • It's a shame that LG g2 and g3 were nice phones at its time but the ones after that are really disappointing. I wouldn't touch LG phones, there are other better phones out there with better quality and cheaper prices.

  • +1

ah those bootloop stories are making me too afraid to own LG mobile phone. their TV are okay tho

    • +1

My LG TV carked itself too……just out of store warranty…..it went to the tips ewaste pile.

Mt LG G4 got put into one of the free return post bags where they recycle old mobile phones.

  • +1

Cheap plastic build and self shattering glass. Would avoid - https://9to5google.com/2016/10/23/v20-fragile-camera-glass/

    • +1

I personally prefer removable battery, gives user the flexibility. I also don't why people hold lighters to the screen, intentionally scratch with sharp objects or bend to break…if you buy a $1000 device, you'd hopefully have the brains to look after it.

  • +3

Apparently even the nexus 5x has started bootlooping.

    • +1

Yup just had mine replaced under warranty.

    • +1

      Ouch, LG does it again!

  • BATTERY Removable Li-Ion 3200 mAh battery! you'd be very tight to get for a day…

  • Pity this does not have AMOLED display as the other Specs are A1!

  • +1

Specs look good but since its LG, will have to pass.

  • Even though the battery is big on paper, the actual battery life according to reviews is mediocre at best.

Battery life of my friend's V10 is atrocious…maybe the always-on 2nd display is to blame (maybe the CPU keeps running at low power to feed it?)

Also, because LG, I'll wait till it drops in price (like LGs usually do), and hopefully by then if there's any systemic issues with boot-loops they'll be known as well.

    • 3200 mah isn't really that big for a phone of this size. Seems average or on the small size compared to current flagship phones. In saying that your comparison with the V10 battery life should be worse than this phone, smaller 3000 mah battery and the s808 isn't as good as the s820. The always on display uses about 1% per an hour, so I suppose that's probably around 15% over a day for most users. They key advantage is the easy to swap battery, that what appeals to some users choosing these phones. My G4 would be lucky to get 3 hours screen time, but standby time was phenomenal. It would barely drain whatsoever when the phone was just sitting idle and could easily get 3 days with minimal use. The screen also was on the dim side on my G4, so I found I was always forced to run at higher brightness levels to view it comfortable. The V10 screen is very similar to the G4, so that's probably another factor why the V10 battery is so poor. Also another factor that could come into play is the better internal dac, you get great audio quality but that comes at the cost to poorer battery life. I am guessing the people who manage to get real good screen time are running brightness as low as possible, and disabling everything to conserve power. The V10 for some reason didn't drop that much in price, the newer G5 for instance has been cheaper.

      • Probably because the v10 was never really a mass market device, it was a low volume niche product of sorts…the v20 seems to be marketed more widely

  • Now down to $860. Hopefully in a couple months time it'll drop to $600ish

  • $860 is awesome, grey or local? from?

    • Grey import (Taiwan), same seller. I would hold off for a little while the price will drop further.
