  • Hey will the dual sim on this phone be any use after the telcos shut down 2g?

  • Hmmm. Sure it's Xiaomi themselves and not one of the dodgy temporary stores? Some spelling mistakes in the blurb.

Same phone as this deal, yes?

Is Aliexpress better than Geekbuying? Or am I missing something???

    • +1

Geekbuying is notorious for not processing orders quickly.
There are plenty of comments in previous deals where customers have waited weeks before it's even sent.

      • It's a presale on a first come first serve basis. Since Xiaomi don't provide sellers with large quantities of stock, a note has been added to that deal in bold ;)

    • Aliexpress is a platform like Amazon, containing goods either sold by Aliexpress, or third parties, so you need to check the seller's details

Great phone for a great price. Very well built, great screen, great performance.

For those who were struggling to find a tempered glass screen protector for the Note 3 pro- KATE/International/Special/Global 152.5mm edition, i purchased this; http://www.honorbuy.com/952-tempered-glass-screen-protector-…
the fit is great, it actually goes to the edge unlike the previous one i had one before.

Also bought a tpu case from ebay - which doesnt fit 100% but is still decent given the circumstances.

  • Any thoughts on the tradeoffs you're making with the Redmi, compared to say the Galaxy S7 Edge or the new Pixel?

    • +3

Redmi has a worse camera, the quality is like a galaxy s3 lol. And screen is just decent, a bit crappier than an iphone 6s plus.
EVerything else on the redmi is great, this thing gets legit 2 day battery. the software it runs is much faster and better looking than samsung's. Also the phone has quite small bezels unlike the pixel. Build quality is top notch, gaming performance also

      • Camera is actually very good when there is enough light. But yes, low-light makes it look like those first VGA mobile phone camera's.

        • +1

actually yeah i just saw a comparison of RN3 vs galaxy s4. Overall I would say the RN3 camera is slightly better than the galaxy s4, but not as good as the S5. Day shots are decent, night shots are well below par

    • Locked in to MIUI firmware that sets it's own updating permission. This model does not support CM.

      • Unlock it. I unlocked both mainland version and international version (Kate)

        • Sure, but what ROM are you packing? CM for Kenzo is meant to unofficially work but some 4G bands will not work.

        • @chyawala:
Im still using official global firmware. It's pretty good for me.

  • Is there any warranty with this?

  • +4

I have a spare unopened special edition if anyone in Perth needs one and doesnt want to wait a month for this to come from China. PM me.

Not looking to profit, just accidentally got two after Geekbuying refused to cancel my order.

  • Just wondering if any of these cheap Chinese phones have a truly great camera - up to iPhone, galaxy, note etc standard's?

    • No they don't, good otherwise though.

      • Yea they do. Not this one though. Outside shots are still very good in my opinion, sadly low light is where this phone struggles. I had an older Xiaomi Mi3, Mi4i and Mi4c that all took exceptional photos.

        • yeah Mi4i camera is definitely better than RN3!

    • Yes they do. e.g. Xiaomi Mi4 or Mi5.

  • Anyone found custom ROM support for this?

    • +1

There are heaps, this is probably one of the most supported phones out there. You just have to visit the xda-developers forums. You'll have to unlock your bootloader first before you can install any custom roms.

This is ozbargains flagship phone lol

Controversial suggestion here. Android enjoyed sell these for $199 shipping included as regular non-sale price (for the grey version at least and with a $10 off BEFOREYOUGO code) and their shipping is scary quick. A day or two with Toll express.

If they break you're going to struggle getting either seller to fix it, so might as well go with the cheapest.

I've always found it interesting how ozbargain loves aliexpress and similar Chinese sites when their prices are more expensive 99% of the time. (Unless they have good RMA policies im not aware of)

    • +1

I think this version isn't the "special edition" with B28. At least it doesn't list that band in the description, and says it may include packaging/manuals in Chinese, which the special edition shouldn't.

      • Sorry i was talking about the first one mentioned in the OPs deal:

        "Redmi Note 3 Pro - 32GB/3GB SD650 AU $211"

Android enjoyed has this for $199 shipped

As for the special edition, they have an international version for $213 : https://www.android-enjoyed.com/xiaomi-redmi-note-3-pro-dual…

I assume this is the special edition, but would have to contact them to verify.

If people just want to go cheap you can also get the 16gb International version for $172

(Their site has a tonne of different variants, Xiaomi pls)

        • Right, forgot there were two products in the post. Thanks for clarifying.

      • Thats because their RMA "service" is essentially non-existant.

But hows aliexpress for RMA? Surely just as non-existant?

So why not buy from the cheaper company with quicker shipping (most of the time)?

I wouldnt buy a $800 phone from android-enjoyed (just like i wouldnt buy an $800 phone from aliexpress), but if i can get a Xiaomi Note 3 Pro for $170, count me in.

Weird double standard. (Again, if aliexpress has a brilliant rma policy let me know, but i highly doubt it)

  • It looks like the $226 option is sold out for the gold colour? It's only letting me pick gold if I choose an add on :(

  • Gosh, price is so tempting, I've had the Galaxy S5 for 2.5 years now, will this be an upgrade or sidestep to the S5?
I've compared them on GSMarena, my thoughts are that the battery life is really tempting, but everything else doesn't seem be much of an upgrade.

    • camera is slightly worse than the S5, most other things will be better. gaming and app performance on this phone is very fast

    Camera is good in daylight!

  • Has anyone had their phone shipped from this deal?

    • Mine was "picked up from supplier" on 31/10. Just arrived in Australia yesterday. I reckon I shoild have it by the end of the week. I purchased on 28/10 I think.

  • I've had some issues with the seller attached to the deal - Xiaomi Online Store

To avoid the auto cancellation occurring they fraudulently claimed they shipped the item:

    1. Placed order on 31/10/2016
    2. Seller messaged me on 31/10/2016 stating will dispatch within 3 working days days
    3. 3 working days pass, I message seller on 02/11/2016 asking when will it be shipped
    4. Seller messages me that they will check, no reply
    5. I message seller after 5 business days on 04/11/2016
    6. Seller replys 'Will ship as soon as possible'
    7. Aliexpress auto-cancellation applies at 7:00pm 05/11/16
    8. Seller marks item as 'Shipped' at 10.41 on 05/11/16
    9. No movement on item for 4 days, contact seller on 10/11/2016
10 Seller states item was shipped on 05/11/16, I reply that this isn't correct
    10. I call DHL, DHL state they raised a waybill but haven't requested a pick up
    11. I go to Aliexpress support on 10/11/2016 who contact the supplier on my behalf
    12. Seller replies again item was shipped on 31/11/2016
    13. I get a notification from DHL 1 hour after contacting Alixpress support that the item was picked up on 10/11/2016 @ 10.41am

Only after I complained multiple times and waiting for 11 days did they ship the order.

    Buyer beware.
