1080 is insufficient as a monitor, for 31". The price justifies it but still not goodenuf for me

  • +4

Was this the one that had that pricing error previously

    • +1

      Yes it was

  • Link to previous deal/forum when it was sold and refunded for $78.

Can you please put the link to product, currently it is linking to Officeworks website

    • No link available, I will put up a pic.

    • Wow 2 people actually got it for free hahahaha.

isn't it cheaper at MSY for today? with the 10% off

    • Yes.

The 274E5[whatevertherestofthenumberis] 27" IPS comes down to about $230 after 10% off and $20 cashback from Philips. Provided you can find stock ie. Apparently Mt Pritchard and Kingsford have one left.

  • This is te monitor that had the pricing error and we were told that it was a clearance item with limited stock. Nice one OW.

  • is this 144hz?

    • from the manual

      Optimum resolution: 1920 x 1080 @ 60Hz
      Scanning Frequency: 30 - 83 kHz (H) / 56 - 75 Hz (V)

  • +2

looks like they put it up early and forgot to put the 2 originally

    dogs reneged on original deal
  • The office works storage boxes are made very cheaply. If you knock them even slightly they shatter into more pieces than my heart

    • Shame i need about 10 boxes and the ones from bunnings have been shit lately.

  • I think I saw this in store like a couple days ago. Looks slightly curved as well.

    EDIT
On second thought - maybe it was a different one haha

  • +1

DON'T! I purchased one and it was rubbish, I was 'lucky' with only one dead (black) pixel in the middle of the screen. The resolution is awful for such a huge size and it's just… ugh! Wouldn't of bought it had I of known how bad it was. Bleed around the edges as well.

    • +3

Why was @kronicmacstigator above downvoted? This indeed is very low resolution for 31" screen, dead pixel is very annoying (and single one not covered by warranty), so what was wrong with what the above poster said? I do not get it.

      • +4

He used apostrophes instead of quotation marks. That's not something I can just let slide.

  • Use multiple applications side by sid

Works well on a 2560x1440, doubt it'd be much good on 1080p…

  • +1

use one at work.. everyone is jealous. side by side works fine. resolution isn't an issue.

  • i got this monitor for 288 from OW, you get what you pay for, i haven't had any of these bad pixels as i tested the unit before i bought it…

great for watching movies if you're consolidated to one screen; i also game on it with no issues

  • I realize some things are subjective, but:

"DON'T! I purchased one and it was rubbish", vs. "use one at work.. everyone is jealous. side by side works fine. resolution isn't an issue.",

I'd like to know how some are saying this is a terrible monitor whilst others are saying it's just great? It can't be both…?

I wouldn't mind sitting back from it, now I've gotten used to my wifi M570. I'm just hoping to be able to read text clearly.

Is the non-adjustable stand a big issue?

Also, is this model known to have dead pixel troubles?

Can other actual owners pop in & give a quick review/opinion?

    • The model is known for dead pixels. Philips is also known as a 'Hire decent Chinese factory and slap our label on it' kind of company. They are good, not great…

The best in my opinion for displays is LG. They make alot of panels for other makers.

For those who only consider size, then it's a great monitor. But I've got over 20 years tech experience so it's kind of lack-lustre for me.

      • -1

I know someone thinking about getting three. Before they do, do you have a link to the bad-pixel article or review? Mine was ok, but I want him to have all the info before dropping the cash on three.

        Ta

        • Just google it and you'll find it's alot more common than you seem to be hoping. Also, I'm not going to waste my time. I have better things to do.

        • -1

          @kronicmacstigator:

You could just say there isn't any specific article.

I did research for that model & dead pixels or pixel issues— but only OZB returns with two people who have no articles to back anything up…

I just picked this monitor up today & I love it!

Like you, I've been working as a tech consult for quite a while but always shot a bit smaller when it came to monitor size.

Very happy tonight— writing this on the "big screen". I fiddled with the settings on the rear button (weird, but no weirder than anything else tech).

I'm running Mint 17, so no software for me ("no soup for you!").

    Still, looks great.

    Great deal.

    Ta.

Edit: good over-all at whirlpool: https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=2536838&…

    • I'm actually happy for you. But it'll take a couple of days for the pixels to show… so keep your receipt!

For me, it was vomit inducing when I first plugged it in!

      • +1

I had to tweak it for Mint, but all good.

OW here is good for returns, so fine with that.

Thank you for your feedback- very appreciated!

After looking at $700 monitors all night… I'm tempted to purchase 3 for my triple screen build, as I'm building a racing sim, and was initially aiming for 1080p 27" screens (running on GTX1080) to allow for running at close to high settings.

Unfortunately the cost of everything is adding up, and alas I don't think I can afford the 144hz/G_Sync screens that I'd really like.

Does anyone have any experience in using these screens in either triple setup, or on racing games in general?

PDF data sheet to the same thing but a new sleeker model?
    https://www.download.p4c.philips.com/files/3/323e7qdaa_75/32…

Hmmmn, can't choose. Maybe the new model has no bad pixels?!

    • This is the data sheet to the one posted….you've listed the same (different model) twice?

      • Yes that's it… FLBKBAU! Thanks for correcting it

        • Officeworks has the 323E7QDAA, too @ $348 vs, $278.

          It's 5ms vs. 3ms on the original.

It's a gloss vs. matte screen.

          It's 3 years vs. 4 years warranty.

There's slight weight, contrast, brightness, diffs but not really enough to justify the extra money….unless someone else here knows otherwise?

It does seem odd they'd carry both.

        • @Geekomatic: energy differences too, perhaps some different logic in the firmware (or maybe the 'new?' model has just been put through a different accreditation process). From the leaflet, it just says 0.3W 'Off mode' as well as the 0.5W standby mode on the 323E. Different status lights, so probably an added feature. Def. a must have, killer feature that one!

Def. prefer the 4 years warranty on the 3201, and the adjustable base it comes with.

Sure appears the 323E is an updated version though, even if the specs are marginally worse.

But @Geekomatic; the gloss finish made me do a double-take. I took it to mean the cabinet rather than the screen. The specifications list does not indicate which, only the brochure says: 'Superb glossy finish enhance your home decoration'. Then again, for all I know they both have glossy screens.

Obv. the person that added that phrase was being vague and managed a fail on grammar too. Could be a new high score for bad grammar in marketing as it is only 7 words… anyhow, they may have been talking up the different cabinet finish (which is painted silver rather than left raw black plastic).

If anyone knows, please post. I'd prefer a glossy screen (but spending any extra for it, nah!)

        • +1

@zerovelocity: Ordered the cheaper 3201 online and tried to pick it up once it arrived at the store. Tested the screen there and then, (and yes, it was glossy!) but it clearly had a screen-flaw on the top right corner.

Chose not to buy it because of the flaw- maybe it was contamination in between the screen layers that became worse over time. Def. felt like a cheaply made monitor (expected) and very cheap base, but well packed and looked okay otherwise. The staff handled the return okay but were unable to order another because of that awful website.

I was able to order another one once I got back to the office, but the checkout failed twice on visa payment. But then the order was confirmed on the second go. Then received an email saying the order was under routine review, and then a VoIP call from a withheld number and someone asking for order details and then card issuer and billing details… very poor practice. I had to ask for a number to call them back and they'd only give me the call-centre number.

Already spooked and now worried I'd be in another run-around with the call-centre I asked them to cancel the order altogether, I will not be using their system again in a hurry. Time to find a monitor elsewhere me thinks- and perhaps one made by a manufacturer with better QA!

        • @Geekomatic:

          What was that???

        • -1

@zerovelocity: But interesting… they did process the payment, and then returned it.

Which means they are transferring and storing credit card information from their checkout.

LESSON: ** Avoid OFFICEWORKS online checkout ***

If you have used it, like me, get a new credit card issued because they are storing credit card info, probably accessing it via the Internet from workstations, and who knows what else. Who knows how long it will take for this info to become compromised.
