Free 3 Months of Speed Boost (up to 100/40Mbps) with NBN Sign-up at Belong.com.au

140

There's a new Belong NBN promotion. From now until 15 December (extended to 31 Jan 2017), new sign-ups will get free speed boost for 3 months all the way up to 100/40Mbps (if you are fortunate enough to be on FTTP). Normally that's an $25/month option. Only up to 25/5 for FTTB & FTTN. Unmetered NBN is $65/month with 12 months contract.

Available in selected area only. Meanwhile my area (Sydney South-East) won't get NBN until 2018H2 and it's HFC only…

  • From what I've been hearing, if you don't suffer from congestion you'll get better speeds on hfc than on fttn.

How will you NOT suffer from congestion when everyone is connected to the HFC network? You don't get a choice to stay connected to ADSL when the NBN arrives.

      • poor planning of infrastructure = congestion.
hopefully the job gets done right this time around.
I'm lucky to be on optus HFC (100/2) without congestion. It used to be congested but they upgraded my area.

It won't, if everyone uses their connection at night you will get the equivalent of a ADSL 1 connection.

Because you have limited other users on there sharing with you, what happens when everyone in your street is forced onto the same system? That's right you'll be back to ADSL 1 days and many people have their VOIP service offline in the evenings because of limited capacity.

"A 100 Mbps cable connection isn't worth much if you can't squeeze much more than 1 Mbps out of it. Don't rely on the government's 25 Mbps minimum download speed commitment to save you either, because NBN Co rewrote the fine print on Thursday. All guaranteed speeds are now "wholesale speeds", which means it's the speed that NBN Co will offer to your ISP but not necessarily the speed you'll see at home."

        • @Maverick-au:
From what I read over on whirlpool they're upgrading the equipment so that pools of people will be on different frequencies and there'll be less overall congestion. So it won't act like a switch (the way most exchanges with cable current operate). Ie it won't just be servicing one request at a time and making everyone else wait like it's currently doing.

Although as the saying goes, proof is in the pudding.. So no point in arguing about it until they start turning it on in mass.

Putting lipstick on the pig doesn't make it any more attractive. HFC and FTTN are flawed outdated technologies that have no place in first world (apparently) countries.

We already know that it's going to be an utter failure so why wait until it's too late to do anything about it?

There is complaint after complaint about FTTN and the few HFC services in existence. For example….

          HFC - https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/2511217

        • @Maverick-au: Yeah my FTTN is woefully slower than my previous ADSL2+ connection. I guess it gives me time to find a box of kleenex before my downloads finish.

Er… downloads of sad movies that is

          Yep… think that covered me

      • Depends on the HFC network. Reliably pulling 200+Mb/s on iiNet here in Geelong.

Poor experience from belong using ADSL2+. Cancelled within 1 month of having internet connection from them.

    • ADSL was God awful telco-in-a-box, but NBN has been without a hitch, no congestion for me.

    • Poor experience from belong using ADSL2+.

Which makes your comment totally irrelevant to this deal, correct?

yes and no. belong tech support is crap and mislead me into buying the product. It was a mission to cancel the contract and ended up paying monies. So beware of these guys.

    • belong has been great for me on adsl and there tech support has been ok i asked to switch adsl line profiles and they called up telstra and was done within 20 mins.

I'm currently with Belong NBN on a contract and waiting eagerly to for the contract to finish. I wouldn't recommend Belong to anyone. I have always experienced speed issues with NBN, and I have wait for more than an hour to speak with their tech support, who does nothing and advises the issues are with NBN and blame someone else or the user. During night, the speed is nearly halved, complaining of the same I always get an answer that this is a Netflix issue and they can't do much.

    • During night, the speed is nearly halved,

What NBN type do you have? I'm guessing FTTN?

Aside from FTTP the rest is utter rubbish, we're getting HFC in my area and I'm not looking forward to the limited speeds and congestion. Tempted to pay the $660 to have them quote on providing a FTTP connection but it depends on how much it costs, I'd pay a few thousand for a FTTP connection but I suspect it will by a lot more.

      • Yes, it is FTTN, I can't believe we pay so much to get the speeds that was even promised. I was with Telstra, the min speed that they give is 25mbps, whereas belong restrict it to 11mbps.

Read my post further up, the NBN CO rewrote the connection agreement to remove the 25 Mbps minimum. FTTN is utterly useless, you can get fast speeds in the mornings but by the time the afternoon arrives you're back to dialup speeds. No matter what they do FTTN and HFC are third rate solutions at a first rate price. To have the VOIP phones stop working at peak times is absurd and there is no CSG that applies to the NBN so no compensation so why would the NBC CO fix the issues? Indeed who is going to fix the problems once this is rolled out as there will no be enough money available to redeploy FTTP to replace all the expensive FTTN and HFC rubbish.

  • Their plan costs seem really competitive. Are there any others offering unlimited 100/40 for $75/month?

  • Hey I was an existing fttp nbn customer and had this offer on my account and so saved on speed boost for 3 months!

  • great deal signed up ! thanks for referral

  • Just received an email that this offer has been extended to 31 Jan 2017.

  • I tried to upgrade the service to 100/40 after seeing this promotion, but got charged for that, $30.

So furious, is that a scam?

Could anyone please tell me how to fix this?

    thanks!
