Raspberry Pi 3 Model B $44.69 + $2.79 Shipping = $47.48 at Zapals

540

Appears to be a counterfeit, purchase at own risk.

MOD: It's the CN version according to Zapals customer service, rather than the UK version.

Don't forget the 8% cashrewards discount as well (not included in title price).

From the link looks like this is the Chinese version. Not sure what the difference is other than made in China.

There was an option for Hongkong Post Standard Shipping (7-45 days) AU$1.63 but I chose to go with Australia Post Air Packet (7-15 business days) No Tracking AU$2.79. On the product page it says: Processing Time 2-3 Days. Shipping Time 3-14 Days so lets see how long it takes!

Pretty good price. Can turn it into a portable old school game console emulator with RetroPie which runs quite well, if that's your thing.

  • Are these genuine or counterfeit? (Do counterfeit Rpi's even exist?)

Not really "counterfeit" variants of the PI do exist, such as BananaPi.. RPI is open source, the blueprints are available to download and use.

What bdl wants to know is if it's actually officially made by RPI themselves or just some cheap rip off, I'm buying one regardless, I guess we'll see when they get delivered.

I have 2 Raspberry Pi 2. I am looking forward to the Raspberry Pi 4 release in Feb 2017. I believe it will sport a 1.8GZ Quadcore, 1xUSB3, and 2mb of RAM.

    • +7

      2MB RAM? Wow!

      • +27

No one will really need more than 640k anyway.

      • +3

No, not two megabytes, two millibits.

    • +1

What will you do with 2mb ram?

      • +1

        Windows 3.1

    • Do you have a source for this information or rumor?

    • I have a raspberry pi 2 as well, if I upgrade to a 3 or 4 can I just whack the memory card from the 2 straight in or do I have to setup from scratch again? (cos that would be pain).

      Cheers

      • I think it depends on what you have loaded on the card, buy yes you can straight swap form Rpi2 to Rpi3 with OpenElec for example as the image is the same.

      • Yes, I believe that is possible as the Pi2 and Pi3 are similar, and the Pi2 will be 32 bit, so you would not be able to move from a Pi3 64bit to a Pi2. You will definitely have a problem going from a 1 to a 2 or 3.

        • OK thanks. I have openelec/kodi. Might try the experiment when the 4 comes out. :)

        • @EightImmortals: I have Kodi/Openelec on the Rpi2 as well, also waiting for the 4. ;)

This is a counterfit unit!!! One its not an authorised reseller and if you look at the photo that they provide where the man is holding the unit, where is the ELPIDA chip on the back and why is the micro sd insert the old spring sort when raspberry pi got rid of those last generation. I use these and the older generations with my work and this is definatly COUNTERFIT!!! Link to proof! http://raspberry.piaustralia.com.au/products/raspberry-pi-3-…

      *COUNTERFEIT!!!

      • +4

        *definitely

        • +1

Maybe the RaspPi just needs to go to the gym. Don't judge. It might be counterfit.

    • +2

      Yeah it looks weird.

I'm not sure if it is a mistake or not.

      https://www.zapals.com/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/3…

I wouldn't mind if the counterfeit was $20, but for this price. lol.

      • Yeah, cost should be a lot lower if it's a counterfeit.
For the RPi, the cost of parts is cheap.

    • "Zapals Customer Service
The item in our website is CN version. But the function are the same except for the apperance."

    • The photo is showing a Raspberry pi 1 B+ where they updated it to 40 pins.
ref: http://raspi.tv/2014/raspberry-pi-model-b-launched-today . They've just used the wrong photo. Might need to settle down there

Why would they reduce the RAM from 1GB to 2mB?

    • My mistake, typo when you are busy.

  • Actualy the more i look at there photos the more i see as well.
The usb Sockets are the incorect sort(Very cheap and there half height wrap arounds)
The capacitors are very cheap and much smaller than any they have ever used.
The circuitry is clearly difrent between photos
Compare the "Made in the UK" stamp between all the photos lol 2 opf them say "Made in FFC"(or something like that)
Compare the box with the previous link, element 14 put there barcodes on the bottom not the top.
In the photo of the box and the unit it clearly does not say on the chip in the top corner "Made in the UK"
Also why is the plastic on some of the conectors all black, i have nere seen a pi with that.

    • Maybe an explanation (I hope so): with the RPi V2 there were differences in components and colours between made in UK and made in PRC (Peoples Republic of China).

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qP4qoVnhAEY

      • FFS PRC! = FFC :P

  • "802.11n Wireless LAN with up to 10/100Mbps LAN speed, you will never be troubled by the low LAN speed."

Actually I would be troubled. The fact that they haven't put a 1G port on this is a joke.

    • The Ethernet is connected internally via a non-USB3 port so no gigabits for you

    • +4

The fact that they haven't put a 1G port on this is a joke.

Too right! No USB3 or SATA either! How am I supposed to build a corporate fileserver with this?

    • You are completely missing "the facts" as to why it doesn't have it.

Buy the real thing from Element14; $55 including free shipping and you'll have it quick smart.

    http://au.element14.com/raspberry-pi/raspberrypi3-modb-1gb/s…

    • i wonder if both of these are made in the same factory?

      • +1

The genuine thing is made in China now just like iPhones, there are many factories in China. As always buying from a reputable seller will ensure you receive the real deal. Element14 and RS Components are the major sellers of Rpi.

        • +1

My Pi3 is made in the UK, while my Pi2's are made in PRC. Also the Pi1 was firstly made in China, then there was UK for the Pi1 R2.

        • @Crownanchor: no doubt some are made in UK..

    • +2

      $55 + GST

      • Yes, so its $60

Best to wait for an Element14 sale, which is often around this time of the year, but some sales exclude raspberry pi.

        • They had one last week that excluded the Pi.

  • +1

They should come up with a model with 2 LAN ports so that can be used as firewall/router/gateway all-in-one server. I have one sent by IBM Raspberry Pi Promo that is still sitting in my drawer.

    • I was burning I missed that deal, also never got the promised arduino from Intel

    • +2

They should come up with a model with 2 LAN ports so that can be used as firewall/router/gateway all-in-one server.

You don't need two physical ports for that. You can connect to your modem over a different sub-net on the same physical port.
Or use a USB ethernet port.

      • Thanks, never knew that is possible. Learnt something new today :-) I am currently running pfsense in an old dual core box with two physical LAN cards.

  • I've been using PRi for years and they are great for doing small jobs, including Bitcoin mining controller (back to the old days….)

Yesterday I set up a FlightAware feeder and connected one compatible TV dongle to my old RPi 2 so now I am feeding live ATC data to the community.

    Link: http://flightaware.com/adsb/stats/user/bjdchwr

My future plan is to develop some of the small automation using RPi - either using Visual Studio + Win10 IoT or Python….

By the way, it seems my RPi 3 purchased from element14 was made in China as well…. My RPi2 was made in UK..

  • So while I was with online with chat trying to figure out if this was official or not I asked for the title to be changed so it's more clear on what it actually is.. they've added the words genuine and Chinese version.

I'm not convinced it's official, these aren't hard to replicate even with the same components..

I think it still stands buyer beware, the device might act the exact same..

I ended up getting a refund on mine, it's not worth the risk.

If you do get this its easy to check if the serial number is valid, this may come straight from the CN factory. This company is not authorised to be using element 14 logo and such in there photos and there not an official distributor or on any list that i can find. Also the photos to show what you are getting show CN and UK versions and between CN photos they show different build quality, and the photo without the ram chip im thinking must be a RPI Zero, I have RPI 1-3 and none look like that. Good luck :)

    • these aren't hard to replicate even with the same components..

Its a custom SoC from Broadcom. How do you replicate that?

      • the chips them selfs are normaly not counterfit, but you have the silicon board, connectors and various other commponets that they can change

        • It is a custom chip. You cannot buy it. There are no clones, just similar devices like the Orange Pi.
          Whats a "silicon board"??

  • @shagaroo did you end up getting yours yet?
