MyRepublic $59.99/Month (Min 12 Months) for 100/40 NBN Plan. No Download Limit. Launching 15 November

5040

The company that made 100 mbps plans the norm in Singapore, Indonesia and New Zealand is now launching in Australia. At 59.99 for a 100mbps line, it will be the cheapest 100mbps plan in Australia. Not to mention a lot cheaper than some ADSL plans and some lower speed NBN plans from other providers that have download limits. They also have a MyRepublic Gamer plan for 69.99. Not sure what different but possibly to do with low network latency (+static IP).

Not sure how they will manage the $59.99 price with the NBN's CVC pricing model on top of the AVC charge but the CVC pricing model is being overhauled soon hopefully

Looks like the Hardware is being dropshipped from Ingram Micro.

  • Has anyone come across the situation where the previous tenant took the NTD(Connection) box with them. Moved to a rental property where I can see the white NBN box inside the house but as soon as I uncover it, nothing in there to connect my Modem to. Called My Republic at least 6 times now to get it flagged & sent an NBN technician to install(/re-install) a new, all in vein. Got an update yesterday that the service would be activated on 6/12. Not really sure how to tackle with this guys! Also does anyone know whether getting another NTD box installed would incur charge? Cheers.

I would talk to the rental company.

      • Just initiated it today. Cheers mate.

        • Just saw, the equipment is actually owned by NBN.

Maybe try talk to both and see what each says.

  • I'm on NBN FTTP and they are making me wait since 17/11. I recieved modem more than a week ago, calling them they just tell you to wait they aren't even willing to give you any details or invetsigate, Very bad service so far not a good start.

  • Apparently you need to wait for NBN already for 2-30 days in most cases/providers.
Yes as a new company it is not ideal all of us wished to get it in 5-15 days, but as long as they give the service that they said they will, then it is ok, with little bit more patience I guess we will be happy customers.

Okay, an update. NBN came this morning as promised 8.20am and within an hour they had the line up and running. Techo reported 85/40 speed according to his equipment, so very happy camper. Now I only have to wait until MyRepublic activate my service. Can't wait as this will be a significant step up from the Optus mobile modem I have been using for the last 3 months. I was previously on Optus cable at maximum speed so I know what to look forward to. For the record connection in 14 business days from signing on the 15th.

  • I called up to upgrade my plan, had to cancel old one and make new one…

Which in turn pushed my activation date further :(

    • To Gamer Plan?

      • Yep…

And they stuffed it up also, activated it at my old address.

So they had to sign me up a third time and they have expedited the connection.

        Oh the joys.

  • Anybody have speed tests for HFC? Seems like everyone got here got FTTP or FTTN. :(

  • I'm based in Perth with FTTH. I placed order on the 17th for 100/40 Gamer Pro Plan (Static IP). Had IINET service on Port D1 and MyRepublic was automatically setup on D2 on the 6th Dec.

TBH, the speeds are pathetic in comparison to what I used to experience with Skymesh and IINET.
I've averaging out at 11/13 Mbps with 100ms PING.
My max was 18/15 Mbps at 120ms

Does anyone know whether the issue is related to the static IP? If so, would you say it might be better to downgrade to their standard non-static IP address offering.

    • I have static ip.
      http://www.speedtest.net/result/5860186163.png
Certainly not an issue with the static ip.

      • Wow, that's amazing! I'm guessing you're not in Perth though, right? Looking to compare speeds with someone based out of Perth with their static IP offering (Gamer Pro Plan)

        • Nope im in sydney.

  • Can anyone please share the speed test during peak hour, say at 9pm or 10pm?

  • received the modem yesterday. connected now and it was activated even though MR said connection will be made on 13th dec. speed pretty good . 98Mb/38Mb over 5ghz wifi. with ethernet it must be better. some times it crossed 102Mb which i never saw in my TPG connection.

they are pretty clear about porting and said it will take upto 10 Jan 2017 and they will start billing after porting. so i am getting one month free. they also configured nbn in Uni D2 port. i would say perfect.

spoke to tpg to downgrade plan to $29 a month just to keep ph no active otherwise porting will not be successful.

waiting for $200 voucher and sell LOL.

  • Received modem a while ago. They don't send it to po boxes. Speed is very good compared to what I had before. Very happy. Great customer service too

  • I'm currently on the Telstra 1000GB $99 bundle plan and I'm thinking of switching to My Republic. Does anyone know how does the speed compare up? Is it worth the swap?
    Thanks!

    • No one can tell you what you will get at your location but I am in a small rural Victorian town and I am getting 92/37 on FTTN at 300m from the node. It depends on the type of connection as well. I am very happy with MyRepublic. They were clear upfront with timing etc.and fulfilled these. Good price so what more can you ask for, except the MR VOIP not working yet here but I can live with that as I use Kogan mobile at a little over $10/month unlimited calls.

  • Has anyone managed to port their phone number? I got the internet connected, but the copper phone line is still active with previous provider.

  • So I've been connected for a bit over a week now. My speed test results are pretty crap tbh, even for FTTN. 18mbps Download / 2mbps Upload / ping 30ms. Down from 35-40mbps Download /6mbps Upload /ping 5ms

Plus still haven't received my PS4 coupon.

Now I am having troubles with eBay, Gumtree, certain forums etc with them refusing to let me post for sales ads or comments due to my IP appearing from overseas. I've also had troubles with long running email accounts being temporarily locked because of spam concerns.

Hopefully it's just a coincidence, but still not overly happy with the speeds, but it's cheap.

    • Seems like speed is bad for FTTN but good for FTTP? That's what I've been reading.

      • Not necessarily. My FTTN is consistently around 92/37 and that is in rural victoria not a capital city and the interconnection point is some 100 km away.

        • Maybe you are the only one with the 'lectricity on?

  • I would like to sign up for this internet but want to know bit more beforehand. I called on 2 occasions and was on hold for 50+mins and never had a chance to speak to someone so bit worried with what would be the customer service be like if something goes wrong and need to speak to someone for dispute or reimburse!!!

How the payment is made and is there any surcharge for paying by credit card?
I am in a greenfield and currently with Exetel and would like to switch so is there any auto provisioning?
How is the router and does it have telephone/voip ports, gigabit ports etc? Also 5GHz WiFi present?
Does the router have NetFilter for kids etc?

Appreciate if the ozbargainers can share their true view?

    • See my post below. Yes its very very slow getting any phone or chat service from them - that is a big part of what makes them a budget provider - dont expect iinet / telstra customer service.

      https://myrepublic.net/au/personal/nbn/modems/

Whirlpool has a bit more information on the modem but you need to dig around for it.

    • Did you end up switching? If so, how long did the process take?
I am considering switching away from Exetel to MyRepublic, but Exetel requires a month written notice if you leave. I don't want to pay double, but I don't want to be without internet either…

Took a long time to get connected from when I signed up but can now confirm I finally got service and I am getting stable 94/30 on my 3rd NBN FTTP port. (for some reason NBN commissioned it onto number 3 instead of 2.
First Invoice just arrived and with my preregistered interest I successfully got on the PAX $59.95 Gamer deal. Invoiced Period correctly starts from when my Connection was established and they told me it was through email (but I was plugged into the wrong port for a day - my issue)
Ping to the online games I play is better than what it was on Exetel but not by a long way. Service has been stable.
There are some interesting GEO issues going on. Apparently my work picked up my VPN connection was comming from the US which is interesting. Worked ok but odd.
PS4 voucher arrived also so probably will use that for my birthday.
All and all has been a good experience for me with the expectations that had been set. Support is very very slow to get onto and slow to do anything but polite with what they can deal with. (50 minutes waiting for CSR on phone or waiting for chat) Commissioning took outside their 20 working days over christmas. (ordered late November connected early January)
Do not Churn if your on FTTP just get it connected to a new port. (Its a checkbox in the online ordering process that says something like replace existing service provider - tell them no) , cancel your old provider yourself when your ready and you have your MyRepublic connection working. Its just not worth having your internet cut of days and days before myrepublic is working on your site (lots of people complaining about this on whirlpool)
If your not on a gamer plan (your own IP address) your going to get a shared IP so thats not good for a lot of people and services.
Doesnt seem to be a credit card surcharge (least its not listed on my invoice but I havnt paid yet.) You signup credit card details so I assume thatws the only option might be direct debit not sure.
Their modem isnt bad its a 2.4mh/5mh wireless one with 4 think its GB ethernet ports on the back and a extra port for NBN connection. It supports VOIP.
I am not using their modem however - if something goes wrong tho they wont support any other router than their own. Also its worth making sure the connection works through THEIR router before trying any other router.
I am using a Netgear R8000. You dont use a user account or login to connect through to the net - at least on fiber NBN but see above. You just have a connection.
I didnt take any notice as to wether or not there was any net nanny etc in their router.

  • @Catarack21
Thanks for the update with your personal experience, really appreciate it.

  • My experience - I'm in Albury, NSW and have been on the Gamer Pro plan for last 2 months. Max download speed I've had is 20 Mbps, upload 3 Mbps. Ping is 26ms. On weekends or during peak periods, speed often goes down to 3/1 Mbps. Have spoken to tech support 10+ times, but no resolution as yet.

I guess you can get lucky with speeds depending on your location, but definitely pretty slow here.

    • +1

Ouch that sucks. The NBN co really needs to work with both the government and RSP's to ensure they are purchasing enough bandwidth to support the speeds they promise.

      • Yeah bummer! Just got this response from chat:

[06:02] Mark: ok so i do see why your speed may be limited at the moment
[06:02] Mark: you are in co existence
[06:03] Mark: The Co-Existence Period can exist for services using NBN FTTB and FTTN. During this period exchange based ADSL and/or special services may co-exist on the same network infrastructure as the NBN services. In this case, speeds are reduced due to interference from equipment or network provided by
other services. The co-existence period is for 18 months from when your location was deemed to be in co existence. You can find out the exact date it was deemed with NBN directly
[06:03] Mark: what the nbn tell us is if they were to give you full speeds then any adsl users in your area would not get any internet, the quicker everyone in your area is on nbn then it will speed back up

Looks like I should expect these speeds for the next 18 months or so! Thumbs down.

  • Can anyone say how long it will take to switch from Exetel NBN to MyRepublic?

    Is it worth doing this?

    Any delays/issues etc?

    Thanks in advance.
