      @MysticalWok: The phone I linked is the international "Kate" version, so no Chinese at all. There's some XiaoMi apps, like the Mi remote (IR blaster). I haven't tried uninstalling anything. The phone's for my gf and she deosn't really care about bloatware. If bloat worries you, launchers like nova can hide apps..
      Only problem was Australia wasn't listed in phone setup for "locale", but I selected Singapore and phone's fine with the correct timezone and some threads say it doesn't affect anything.
      10/10 phone for the price.

I think I convinced my girlfriend to go without a case though, since any cases and screen protectors that are confirmed fitting cost more than 10% of the phone's value! If I could buy it again I'd probably go with the standard edition, since B28 is only useful really in the country, as I've been told. GF studies in a large country town though so thought it might be useful. (I'd probably still go without a case though, since the phone's so cheap).
      
      edit: however with the standard edition, pretty sure there's definitely some Chinese that you can't get rid of without flashing the firmware or something. Not tech savvy enough to know how to do it, I'd have to look up some guides.

      @aycnrz: would get just a soft tpu case for standard redmi note 3 and massage it slightly/enlarge side hole cutouts slightly…. soooooooo much better grip and basically looks/fits great (I have a nice thin soft clear one).
      It's a slippery sucker without.. Asking for trouble imho :) :) :)

Last comment on this issue I swear! So I have narrowed down my choices to one of these 2 (The Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro Prime 3GB and its' Special Edition).
Based on the info people gave me the SE comes with band 28 (for non metro 4G) but it is also slightly bigger and hence doesn't fit all the common cases
and replacement parts like the normal Ed. The real issue for me is they are identical price so the inner Oz-bargainer in me is struggling to pass up
a 'better' version for an identical price.

    I flashed a new ROM on Samsung Note 4 because the factory firmware wasn't updating to marshmallow. Also, recently noticed there is an issue with GPS. It keeps searching and returns nothing. Battery life is okay but nothing great.
    
    I am happy with Redmi note 3 pro, so was thinking I could just get mi5 etc . Really like oneplus 3 too but its about $600

      mi5 is super fast, mi5s has better processor and doesn't have a budget 32BG storage version only 64gb, more efficient battery usage

      @codename47: Surprised by him thinking the mi5 is the better camera. mi5s definitely has the better sensor (bigger, not in mp count, but in physical size 1/2.3).
      GSM arena makes clear the mi5s is a better camera in its review, though the LG G5 / V20 kicks both of em still.

    Redmi pro has limited Global ROM support. Very hard to get proper ROMS for it since it has x20 mediatek

      Yeah I'd go with xiaomi with snapdragon, and these phones are not user friendly in terms of getting official roms working on them, id recommend most people to purchase global version with official global rom unless they know what theyre doing

      I had to install windows 7 on a pc then enter download mode to flash a hard bricked redmi 3 to china developer rom, from there I was able to unlock the phone via miunlock, then flash in fastboot the global rom :P

      I was on the same boat before and even kept a laptop on windows 7. Not anymore, I use same pc with windows 10 for flashing mediatek/sd devices and all work fine. Bought around 14 Redmi note 3 and 3 Redmi pro :p all flashed using same pc haha (cashrewards 150+)

    4.4.4 is ok.. but might have some compatibility problems with some apps. More so in the near future.
    It's stuck on Android 4.4.4
    Other than that it's a very capable tablet.

Bizarre had a Note 3 Prime Special edition in grey in the cart with silicon case, then it jumped to $200 when I was about to check out.
Ended up with a Gold one which really wasn't my preference with the silicon case. Oh well needs must.
