Virgin Mobile Data Gifting - Postpaid Customers Only

1000

Virgin Mobile postpaid customers are now entitled to Data Gifting as part of their free perks monthly.
Data Gifting allows Virgin Mobile postpaid customers to send mobile data to other virgin mobile postpaid customers.

This'll help if you have 2 or more mobile plans with virgin or a grandfather plan with low data inclusions. Share data across devices!
The data sharing does not need to occur within the same account, as long as the data that is being sent is to a virgin mobile postpaid number

Deal expires 16/02/18 unless extended.

  • Awesome!

  • Which company started this war? Optus or Vodafone? I found Optus's offering is better than Vodafone at the momment.

    • -2

Virgin own by Optus, so…. it's basically the same company, just different product line.

      • -1

For the record, it is not owned by Optus… just using their network.

        • +4

For the record ? apparently your record expired long ago, since 2006 it's owned by Optus. Read here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virgin_Mobile_Australia

For those who neg me, apparently they are blindly believe that Virgin is still Virgin after all these times.

        • +1

@dlovep: I stand corrected! It does also say they operate independently but yes, wholly owned subsidiary of Optus. I guess every day you learn something new! Thanks for the correction and sorry for my previous comment.

        • @AncientWisdom: It's okay, I also remember not far ago when they sent a short questionnaire about remove the 'Virgin' brand which was from Optus, that really get me re-think should I stay with them after 10+ years.

      So kind :')

      • +2

10 GB per month has always been way more than enough for me when I got wifi at home and work :)

        • Lot's of PMs? Are you sharing your surplus around like a benevolent ruler? heh

    • pm'ed, thanks Nobita

    • +2

I don't need it, but +1 for the generosity!

When does the gifted data expire? For example if I give someone 2gb on the last day of my billing cycle does it expire for them in a day or is it in their billing cycle?

    • +4

It goes into their billing cycle.
The only thing I'm not sure about is whether the data that is gifted can be rolled over on their account

      • +12

So, can you gift the remaining of your data to your friend right before it expire, then your friend gift it back to you before theirs expire, and that way the rollover can be infinite instead of just 1 month?

        • -6

Stop pretending it's for a friend, lol.

        • +1

          @lukerips:

I assume this was supposed to be a joke referring to people being able to abuse this on their own for neverending data life.

Nobita happens to be a a really good guy (particularly evident 2 posts up) so your light-hearted ribbing may appear to some to contain an inflated amount of malice.

          Here, have a +1.

    • +2

      terms says it rolls over

  • Cant find it on the fine print. So will it send the gift according to the following priority?
    1st current month remaining data
2Nd last month rilled over data
3rd reward data such as guvera

    • Probably, since it uses current month remaining data first always.

  • -1

It's their billing cycle so u loose it once it cycles over. I hope they let u know when they take data off u due to a gift rollovers

    • +1

      This is from their website:

      https://community.virginmobile.com.au/t5/Support-Articles/Da…

Is there an expiry date on the gifted data that I receive?

Gifted data will expire at the end of the recipient’s bill cycle. For example, if your bill cycle finishes on the 6th of each month and you received a gift on the 1st, you have 5 days to use it or lose it, unless you’re on a on a plan with Data Rollover.

For customers on a Data Rollover plan, gifted data will rollover to your next bill cycle.

Virgin has released new apps for iOS and Android which allow data gifting directly through the app, as well as all of the features of the old apps.

About time Virgin Mobile did this; I've Been constantly suggesting it, and it finally arrived!

    Thanks OP.

    • When they sent out a survey regarding data sharing a few months ago, I knew something was in the works

  • +5

Hallelujah! I'm on 10GB; my wife is on 300MB. We… okay, she needs this!

    • +1

      Which plan has 300MB data?

      • +1

$30 (with Galaxy S5), from a few months ago.

        • Oh. Thanks.

  • +4

I wonder whether there can be an infinite loop where you send all your data to another person at the end of your billing cycle, then they send it back after your new bill cycle begins.
The data theoretically doesn't expire since you're sending it away and then getting it back.
Eg:I'm on the $40 10GB plan. I have 10GB left at the end of my month, I send it all to another person at the end of my bill cycle, and they send it back when my new bill cycle begins meaning I have 10GB + 10GB. I then send 20GB to someone at the end of my bill cycle, and then get it back meaning 20GB + 10GB = 30GB.

So what I'm saying is that instead of rollover data expiring at the end of the next bill cycle, could you send it to someone and get it back to avoid it expiring?

  • Can you set this to happen automatically with each billing cycle?

    • Unfortunately not, has to be done manually
