  • Where do you find the referral code? I'm with NIB but didn't receive an email about the code.

    • I received it a few days ago, subject of the email is: <First Name>, score a $100 gift card for you and a friend

      • Lucky you! Neither did my partner nor I receive it… Maybe it's to reward loyal customers?!

      • It's not just your member number with RF in front of it is it?

        • It looks nothing like my member number.

        • @forumninja:
My customer number is 8 digits and the OP's referral code is 7 digits after "RF"…. I don't think the customer number with RF in front of it.

Don't do it. Stay clear of NIB like I said in MULTIPLE posts previously.

Yes, ok, I get that I may get negged for valid reasons.

      So here is my reason.

Many hospitals including HSS in Bella vista will not cover your surgery even if you are fully covered.

Also, if your surgeon wants to charge you ANY gap above what the fund sets out, you will not get ANY payment from NIB despite having full cover.

If you don't believe me, I ask you to please find out for yourself before signing up.

NIB is NOT a member first health insurance.

NIB is in the running for one of the worst funds lol.

      • Who you recommend for hospital cover only in Vic?

        • -1

I usually recommend HCF or BUPA but compared to NIB, even Medibank is better.

      • NIB is NOT a member first health insurance.

What does that mean? Google is giving me no love.

        • They don't put members interest as their first priority.

        • @youngchul76:

Are you saying some really do?

The health insurance companies are pathetic, they offer $100 to the first person you refer if you sign up direct but they offer thousands to the pointless comparison companies that only offer a small range of the products out there. Maybe if they offered a decent referral program to their customers and stopped paying such huge commissions we wouldn't have all those stupid compare the market and other services advertising all over the place.

Health insurance companies must spend a large percentage of everyone's premiums on this pointless and ever increasing form of advertising. It's about time the ACCC cracks down on these comparison services, the pathetic fines they impose on them each time they get caught is a fraction of their revenue. Compare the Market from memory received a $14,000 penalty whilst making millions of dollars.

It was $200 eftpos card last month

I qualified on the last day 😍

    • Haha I joined last month for the $200 Eftpos card too. Still waiting for the email link to claim the gift card (I already passed the cooling off period)

      • Good luck to you both, make sure you keep calling and BE PERSISTANT, they'll do anything to not pay out the bonus gifts
Last time I had 2 months of fighting with NIB management just to get my bonus "gift" card
I qualified no worries, then they tried pulling the didn't qualify card nonsense, spoke to a manager who clarified I did qualify

        complete rigmarole

Ended up cancelling after I got the gift card, off to the next promo

Very hard to find any insurance that is worth bothering with. Basic Extras plans are completely useless. Lots of health funds have lists of 'tame' health providers that they pay you more to go to, but why do they need to be on the health funds lists? (are they bad providers?). I would only choose a fund that does not distinguish between providers.

I used Medibank Private for Basic Extras for a few years because I was worried about dental expenses after not having been for a long time. Would have been better off just paying cash for the dentist with no insurance. Now I use HCI for Premium Extras and it's much better.

Any company using gift cards or other promo's to attract custom - I'd be checking the fine print carefully.
