      • -1

        Oh mini version….

    • best 1070

      no

      • It could be considered pretty high tier with price to performance ratios.
Not the best at all, but its decent for a $520 1070

      We're finally at RRP.

      • +1

        shame its from overseas though

  • Does the mini ITX card perform the same as the full size one?

    • +2

The cooling on mini ITX cards is worse, no issue at all if you only run at factory overclock/don't overclock, but if you want to push the envelope with overclocking it the full size card will be superior due to better heat dissipation.

    • Pretty much, yeah

    • If you are comfortable with it you can probably undervolt it, making it run cooler and quieter, just don't overclock.

  • +2

Oh goddamnit, I just bought the MSI 480X from MSY when they had that 10% discount thing last week. I think the end price was $330 or something.

Pretty decent card. I highly recommend it.

    • +2

      I'd highly recommend you.

      • +1

Oh thanks man! Could you leave me a review on trustreviews.com?

    • There is a 480x ?

      • +1

Nope im an idiot that gets things wrong. I meant RX 480

  • how does Amazon work? Like I go on the site and the price says $180, is that in USD or AUD?

    • usd, just add it to cart and put ur card in and they let u review the final price before u order it, there are some added costs too

      • thanks. wow, would have thought a huge company like Amazon would have a currency converter option or something

        • +2

          They have.

  • +5

I would wait after the USA election when the AU goes up

    • +5

      only if trump wins

      • +1

        He will.

    • +2

wait really? if trump wins we get a better dollar?

      • +2

Yeah because it would be bad for the US economy.

How does the RX 480 compare to the GTX 1060 (3GB on sale for $279 on eBay). They're pretty similar from the looks of it, does any have a big advantage over the other?

    • +3

RX 480 beats the 3GB 1060, but not the 6GB 1060 in most cases.

    • +2

GTX 1060 3gb is slightly better for recent dx11 games and more power efficient and has lower temperatures, RX480 4gb is better for dx12 games and has more vram and good for future-proofing. IMO they're pretty similar in overall performance, so just get which ever you can get cheaper

  • how would warranty work with Amazon? Would a faulty card be covered by MSI or Gigabyte Australia?

  • +2

The GTX 1060 3GB for $279 through the 20% off ebay sale would have been my pick, but:

the RX480 4gb is 256 bit, has 1GB more, TFlops better than gtx 1060 and should be better in dx12 titles

while the gtx 1060 advantages are that its 10% faster than rx 480 in the current generation of dx11.

    decisions decisions!!

    • +2

Either way you can't go wrong. I'd probably go the 480 just to have that extra 1GB VRAM even if it loses to the 1060 3GB in most DX11 benchmarks.

      • +1

I'm honestly very conflicted about this card. Currently in the middle of building a new gaming PC and want something that will last a few years. The 1060 is nice, but the 480 has that wonderful boost in V-RAM that seems to be popular these days.

        • Which i don't understand why. a 1060/480 is meant for 1080p gaming, yet even in all games, with benchmarks at 1440p, the 3gb vram does not get limited and does not affect performance. yes in 4k gaming that extra 1gb will come in handy, but your not going to game in 4k on a 1060.

        • @xEnt: I've run into a couple of games that I've had to turn down the settings at 1080p due to 3GB VRAM not being enough. It's uncommon now and shouldn't pose much of a problem but in the next couple of years that may change. It feels like we're definitely seeing a large increase in VRAM usage. 480 feels more of a "future proof" card in that it performs great in DX12/Vulkan and the extra VRAM in the 4GB and 8GB (vs the 3GB and 6GB for the 1060). But in a few years time we'll have better cards with more VRAM so you'll probably want to upgrade anyway. 1060 definitely has the edge if you want the best bang for buck in today's games though.

        • @Yuri Lowell: So just to clarify, a 480 is the better choice for the next few years at full settings 1080p, and the 1060 is the best choice for right now.

I think I know which one I should buy then, since I'm probably going to move onto 4k gaming in a few years once the prices take a dive in Aus. Means I can upgrade.

        • @xEnt:So would you say it's worth the minor price increase?

        • @WillRay92: Pretty much but either way I think both cards are great at the $300 price point.

        • @Yuri Lowell: YUP. also if you plan on overclocking, keep in mind the 1060 will overclock higher/easier, has lower power and temperatures. i was in this situation a few weeks ago (i have a 2560x1440 monitor too) i went the 1060. maybe in the next few years ill get a 4k monitor and a newer set of gcards will be out by then.

        • @Yuri Lowell: Cheers, I'll do some more research on it. Should be a nice upgrade to my 7870.

        • @xEnt: I will be getting an i5-6600k so I guess the over-clocking potential is there.

          I'll be getting a 1080p anyway.

        • nvidia has quite a bit better texture/memory compression techniques which means it uses the VRAM more efficiently. So it's not as clear cut as just 3GB vs 4GB

    • 1060 does around 100fps on ultra on bf1

      • Does the 480 do that too?

        • no idea sorry

  • +1

    There's been a price increase.
The 480 just jumped up 20usd to 235usd delivered as I was about to buy it. Fuming!

    • Wait for black friday deals. It's likely to be even cheaper than this.

  • Read the small print on the rebate " Offer only valid in the US (including Puerto Rico). Rebate Payable in US Dollars for US Residents"

    • Yeah I hadn't counted on that part might be handy to know though for people that have friends in america or something simmilar

  • seems like prices are coming down to msrp ~ google search of msrps

    NVIDIA GPU Specification Comparison
    GTX 1070
    Manufacturing Process TSMC 16nm
    Launch Date 06/10/2016
    Launch Price MSRP: $379 (USD)
    Founders $449

gtx 1070 windforce oc $379.99 (USD)

wont be considered a bargain in the coming weeks im thinking. a month or 2 ago it would of.

    • Yeah I have to agree with you atm its still a pain in the are to find these cards at rrp the msi one was under msrp I think to
