      From the website:
"How do I transfer my existing number to Kogan Mobile?
When your SIM Pack arrives, simply activate it online by visiting koganmobile.com.au. During this process, you’ll have the option to transfer (port) your number to Kogan Mobile.
Most transfers take less than 4 business hours. It’s that easy!"

      • You're a legend, thank you!

      • Noob question but if i want to transfer my number from vodafone do i need to cancel my plan first? Won't i lose the number?

        • No don't cancel just when signing up to Kogan, select the option to keep existing number and it will he transferred over.

        • @Dezeption: Ok, so i can cancel after that right?

        • @Str1ke4: If there is no contract it should be cancelled automatically but just check to make sure you don't get charged again

    • +1

Also, do it during business hours, port has been completed in less than 15 minutes in the 6 cases I have seen.

Great deal. Cheapest plan around for the Small plan which is great for the kids.

  • Seams too good to be true ?

    • +7

Come on mate, I'm not a stickler for spelling, but you can't do that. Not in public.

      • The sim card comes delivered in a calico bag with hand stitched seams which are too good to be true. Nothing wrong there.

  • Thanks. Just checked my 90 day auto-recharge schedule (due later this month) and it's showing the promo price already.

  • what's the catch here?

    • +1

Just you have to stuck with them for 1 year.

  • I was considering this until I checked and found out that Kogan don't offer International Roaming. This is a deal killer for me.

When overseas, I use a different phone with a local SIM to save money, but I still require the ability to receive SMS messages on my Australian mobile number.

    • +10

Worth a neg though? It's still pretty good value in its own right, even if it doesn't suit your particular needs.

      • +3

I think it an important danger that some people will overlook as its not made clear on the Plans page. If someone here signs up to the deal, but needs to port away half way through the year to have roaming whilst they are overseas, then they are in effect paying double the price of this deal.

People will just assume that Kogan Mobile have global roaming as Optus, Vodafone & Telstra prepaid has it.

        • +5

I won't comment on the legitimacy of the negative vote, but I for one am glad that onceupon8 brought this point up. Isn't this one of the benefits of a forum? You hear the good and the bad. I'm all for highlighting fine print that might be easily missed.

        • +2

Thank you for that crucial bit of information

        • This is a serious issue. I'm not just talking about the convenience of being able to sms friends when you're in a pickle. If you're smart about security you probably have 2 step authentication (code sent via sms) on all your mail/storage and automatically on your banking. If you're shut out of that while overseas you're stuffed.

        • @crudman: Try and use Authy or Google Authenticator for 2FA. Most companies offer the app OTP generators (Google, Dropbox and Facebook do) but some slow innovators like banks are still using SMS which is ridiculous because 2FA apps are way more secure than SMS.

    • iMessage?

      • +1

        Whatsapp?

        • +2

iMessage & Whatsapp are good for friends.

But not for alerts, internet banking SMS security confirmations, colleagues/bosses & voice2text SMS messages etc.

Also in case of an emergency, I would also want to be able to make/receive calls on my Australian numbers.

    • +4

I don't neg Jetstar deals because they don't include inflight meals in the price of the ticket though… That's not how the site works. This is a bargain. And I'm buying it.

    • I think this a valid point but there is a workaround. If you're running Android and have a spare phone, install a program like 'Pushbullet' on your spare phone, which you leave running at home (with your Australian SIM in it) and the phone you take travelling. You'll then be able to receive (and respond) to texts and other notifications.

  • Worthwhile to switch (30 day SIM then yearly plan?) from Woolworths mobile? (currently on $27 per month, 3gb data, telstra network, data rollover, unlimited text/calls)

Will I suffer from reception issues being in a regional area with Vodafone?

  • I switched to Kogan 6 weeks ago, and got the 90 day S recharge, not 365 days specifically in case something like this came up. Feeling pretty smug right now, and delighted with the service. I'll be getting the 365 day recharge when I expire next month.

  • Cant see anywhere.. Has it roaming? Or it will be totally useless if I am overseas and no sms will go on this simcard from banks, online services?

    • No roaming apparently

    • While it should be clearer in the T&C's, probably a good idea to check out the help pages here

  • If I buy now, when do I have to activate the SIM? Buying a phone for my daughter for Christmas…. and was planning to do the 12GB XL 30 day pack for $4.95, then change to a 365 day plan after the first month. Is that what others are doing?

    • Need to activate $4.95 before that offer ends 14/11/16, then recharge 365 plan before 31/1/17.
If you haven't got your SIM yet, unlikely you'll get it before the 14th now.

      • Hidden in the fine print "Activation must be made before the end date of the offer."

Can you pick up a SIM from a store anywhere? As it is still a month before Christmas on 14/11, I think I will just go with the 365 days deal.

  • -1

Can I bring my current mobile number to this offer?

  • thanks op

  • -1

Can I use this as a data only sim in my iPad?

  • -2

Is it 8GB per month, or 8GB for the entire 365 days?

  • For those wanting to know the international call rates under Kogan, you will have to activate an additional service called the Premier Access Bolt-On for $14.90 per 30 days which gives you $14.90 in credit.

The international call rates can be found here:

    http://www.koganmobile.com.au/plans/mobile/premier-access-bo…

  • Is the network good? Im base in Gold Coast. now I'm thinking 12 month Virgin $40 sim only plan and Kogan one.

  • How have people found the porting in experience. I'm doing it now, I'm waiting for my old sim to show no service it's still active and I can make calls but sms is off line.

    • No probs on me. very quick, porting in 5min

      • Mine took about 3.5 hours.

    • Of the half dozen or so I've seen, all done pretty quickly (during business hours), started within about 2 hours of activation with loss of service between carriers less than 15 mins.

The only time I had a delay was for the in-laws when port request was mistakenly submitted as prepaid when it was actually post paid.

After a day of nothing happening sent Kogan customer service the account number of old provider and they resubmitted port request as post paid and went through quick like the others.

  • I signed up for L with 8GB of data. It's been active for one day and I have already used 7% (558mb)which to me seems a lot. Last plan I only used about 2GB per month.

    • +3

      I think it's from using speedtest.net

    • Doggy signed up my daughter yesterday afternoon and says she used 10%!I hope I won't regret this….

      • mine has settled now, definitely the speed testing which used up 80mb per test. Month to date, and i activated on the 1st, I have used 15% total. Should be fine.

  • +1

What happens if Kogan Mobile shut down and I've paid for 12 months? Will I lose my money or be creditted back?

    • +1

Credited back is what they did last time when their wholesaler went bust.

  • Can you call conference on Kogan?

  • Have my teen on this now (small plan). I like that they just stop data if you go over. I was contemplating Vaya, but they just charge you an extra $10 for 1gb if you go over.

  • -1

What happen after one year? Will the pricing be the same?

  • -1

    the promotion expired????

  • Are you able to get a further 10% off (via a kogan giftcard here https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/284081) to buy the 365 day recharge?

  • I live in an area that the Vodafone network shows as "good outdoor and limited indoor".

Anyone else's place shows up as this, and how's your reception? Calls text internet speeds etc etc.

    E: http://www.vodafone.com.au/network/coverage-checker

  • $10.36 plans for unlimited text and call is great for someone who are not into internet…looking at this plan for one of my household who only use 1gb.

Still have so many starter pack for next year…considering join something like this around June for my household.

  • +1

^ Yeah the expiry is listed on ozbargain as Feb 1, but actual expiry is 31st of January. I would edit it but… it seems ozbargain doesn't like people updating deals to be the most accurate or something.

  • +5

I can confirm Kogan gift cards from Coles (currently 10% off) works with this offer. Just buy however much you need and load each gift card into your Kogan account. In my case, I purchased 2 vouchers (3GB/month and 8GB/month) and an additional $12 item to make it ~$500. I used my Coles Myer gift cards from the Myer/Mobile wallets Amex deals to buy the Kogan gift cards. Brings down the cost of 3GB/month and 8GB/month plans to $11.02/month and $14.70/month respectively.

    Happy new year!

  • Does anyone know if I need to activate this by a certain date? Or can I just buy it now at the cheap price and use it when I want? Current 24 month contract runs out in April so don't really want to pay early exit fees.

    • +2

I bought Kogan gift vouchers, redeemed them and bought the 8gb/month plan on boxing day (Dec 26, 2016) from kogan.com. They sent me a voucher code to be used on koganmobile.com.au by 31 March, 2017.

From this, I presume the code expires 3 months after purchase or all codes bought last year expire at the end of March this year. Do a live chat (on kogan.com) to confirm. They are pretty responsive albeit with preprepared copy and paste responses most of the time.

If you are talking about purchase and activation straight from koganmobile.com.au, I do not have a clue.

      • Thanks for that mate :)

      • "From this, I presume….." Mmm. Yes that is perfectly clear.

Unfortunately this is also clear.."Offer ends 11:59PM AEDT 31/01/2017…….Activation must be made before the end date of the offer."

So, wait 'til after 31/01/2017 and just see what happens????

  • BEWARE, Kogan Mobile WILL NOT send you Voicemail notifications by default even though Voicemail is setup.

  • I see their sale ends in a about a week unfortuantely, my current plan ends 23 rd Feb

it also says in the terms and conditions

Activation must be made before the end date of the offer.

Im happy to buy now and wait a few weeks, but If I dont activate before expiry , then I may lose the entire purchase!

    • Activate at the end of the month, you'll lose 23 days, prob not that big of a deal.

Btw anyone thinking of signing up who doesn't have a kogan sim yet, better order now. Be pushing it to receive before end of the month now.

Alternatively if you're only after the smallest plan there is also Ovo offering a similar deal for 9.95 (on Optus), 1gb data, unlimited sms but only $200 for calls. No need to prepay a year though.

  • Sent them an e-mail, was advised it is ok to activate before 31 March to get the promotional rates.

  • Has anyone noticed if the data is over counting?

I've been on for 3 days it's way over counted on my Android and my Mrs iPhone6

Android: 2.2Gb Account vs 1.8Gb Phone Counter
iPhone: 430Mb Account vs 370Mb Phone Counter

    EDIT

I understand sessions and per Kb billing… but seems much? Neither of us have much push notifications either, ie facebook, ebay, insta, etc is off and emails are set to 2hrly instead of push.

    • +1

I monitored when I connect with them and it was spot on to the point the moment my phone counter hit 50% it also showed 50% on the Kogan app and 8 got the sms notification a few minutes later….. Galaxy S7E

  • Maybe use it with 7 eleven Kogan giftcards to get a further 10% off these plans.
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/286545

    • can anyone confirm this work?

      • Yes it works. Login to your Kogan account, then add the gift cards as credit. After that add the plan you want to the cart and use your credit to pay for it with whatever left over to be paid with card or other method.

  • +1

Kogan finished their yearly discount early??
Was meant to be until 11:59pm tonight and the plans are no longer listed.

    • same question here, was just about to sign up

      • The Kogan Orthodox Calendar only has 30 days in any month

  • Aldi deal is better now that the 30% discount is gone, and besides its Telstra.

  • Bought on the 21st, sim finally arrived on Monday. Ported that afternoon (about 3pm) and mobile lost service an hour or so later. Finally came good this morning (Weds) so was off the air for a full day. Fortunately it is the 'spare' mobile so didn't really matter but that is the longest port (was from Aldi) I've ever seen. Signal strength is full bar here in metro Melb & 41Mbps down & 37Mbps up on an iPhone 5s.

  • Can't complain about the speed

    http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/a/2589595848

  • looks like this deal is over, does than mean existing customers have to pay the higher price too.
