Ive seen a lot of these cheap fares this morning… are they legit? Has anyone been able to book them?

I tried searching directly on Virgin Australia site and dates were coming up as unavailable?

    • First tried the Expedia web and it didn't work (probably a temporary issue).
Then I tried via Phone and got the almost same deal.

Prices have now changed. Lucky to the ones that got the good deals

    • Given that no sale of such mega proportions was advertised, I'm certain it was an error in the GDS that Aussie OTA's & airlines connect to as overseas based OTA's were displaying 'normal' pricing.
Time will tell but looks as though it may have been resolved.

      • Yeah apparently they forgot to add the fuel surcharge. Hope they honour existing bookings.

        • fuel surcharge?
What a scam! Oil prices are low - $44/barrel.

        • @manic: Yeah, but I don't think planes use E10. Also the dude filling up the fuel is part of the union gang and requires multiple penalty rates to be stacked plus loadings.

Since SQ and VA are working to close off the loophole, don't think we should post deals on these anymore and move it to the discussion session.

As the aggregating websites may show up with the "discounted" price, but may not be honored until it's checked out/paid.

Virgin will honour the deals. Happy days. http://www.businessinsider.com.au/virgin-australia-accidenta…

    • +1

Virgin's statement didn't say whether they'll honour the prices.

      • It states as "Fortunately, it’s believed Virgin Australia will honour the tickets of the lucky few who managed to book flights at the ridiculous prices."

        Sounds good to me….

        • +2

          It is believed

Believed by whom, based on what evidence? I'd wait for an official statement from Virgin before booking hotels etc.

        • +4

@cynix: seems to me that you are not one of the lucky few :)-

        • +2

@catchganu: To be fair, the link doesn't indicate who said they going to honour it. The author just wrote that. I was one of the lucky few who got return tickets to paris for $800 during European summer (july-august) so I got real lucky! hopefully they honour it!

Would have preferred London return, but they were showing as like $1800 for some reason

        • @catchganu:

I am, which is why I'm hoping for an official statement before doing further holiday planning.

        • @cynix: great then…true ozbargainer snap it early… i got it too… lets hope they honor as its in the news now…

        • @catchganu: I hope they do, but what annoys me is that the first article says virgin aus has confirmed it will honour it. But who said that? I mean they can write all they want, but until there aren't some kind of quote from a VA spokesperson stating it will be honoured, then the articles don't really give much info to what we already know.
i know the article says they confirmed it, but really apart from that sentence I haven't heard anything from Virgin themselves.

        • @eltito: as long as they dont cancel it - i dont care whether they have to release an official statement.

is there a time limit before which they have to act on it? what if people already started other bookings based on this ? so i guess there should be a timeframe before which they have to agree or disagree ?

        • @catchganu: that's exactly my point, them not releasing any official statement basically leaves many people in limbo. My flight isn't until july next year so i've got plenty of time - but for some people who need to book annual, organize insurance/hotels, kids, house sitting etc etc and like to get things done early - they are the ones who currently have no idea what's happening. And people putting up these articles stating virgin have confirmed they will honour it (when in reality Virgin as far as we know haven't said anything about canceling or not) is basically a false sense of security.

Personally, unless these websites are reliable when it comes to so called 'inside knowledge', the articles shouldn't state what they currently do, they should just be taken with a grain of salt. It just annoys me somewhat, because, personally the authors should know better - but i guess you got to get people clicking on the article somehow.

Virgin, in my opinion should have been proactive and basically just stated whether they will honour or not, simple. In the past when I've seen pricing error on ozbargsin and people have gone nuts over them, the company has released within 24 hours whether they will be honouring or not - via cancelation emails etc. Obviously people have gotten annoyed here, but at least they knew where they stood early on.

Also, the above isn't a personal attack or anything along those lines - apologies if it's written in that way.

EDIT: HAPPY DAYS! On the original thread/post some people have confirmed via facebook with virgin that they will be honouring it.

        • @eltito:

so glad, have been anxiously checking every hour expecting my flight to be cancelled…
          woohoooooo

        • @Kikkoman56:

          Thanks!

      • Correct, the news article is bit vague. BTW, Virgin has not issued an official statement yet. Fingers crossed.

    • +1

It's not as simple as this. They need to negotiate with singapore airlines. Virgin is not operating the flights.

      • -1

I believe VA might not even have to take the hit. They pay SQ a pre-negotiated rate for each pax they take. The prices they are charging might just be the pre-negotiated industrial reimbursement rate, so no loss or profit at all for VA and SQ. Just my 20 cents.

    • I was looking at these deals in the morning

i want to cry now because I missed out :(

  • Oh no :( hope they don't cancel

  • +1

According to news.com.au - Those lucky enough to have scored a flight, however, will have their bookings honoured.

Virgin agreed to honor the prices….yahhhhhhhhh
