…i can see that backpack is definitely worth $245!

I would contest that Crumpler backpacks are worth close to that. From personal experience anyway. And this is coming from someone who hates spending money on anything.

I've had a crumpler laptop bag i've used for the past 9 years. It looks essentially like new. No tears, no wear, nothing. So pretty solid build I think. Holds a tonne too

      • $45 worth of bag ….$200 worth of branding! :P

No Franco, I used to think the same as you, until I bought a crumpled 10 years ago.
It is still strong and looks new.
When u think abt it - cheap bags are a false economy. Yes they only cost 40 but they will only last 3 yrs of heavy use.

        • @mmd: i guess it depends if you want the same bag for 10 years as well..? :)

i know what you mean though a well made bag of quality materials lasts…but i question whether any crumpler stuff is worth what they charge let alone a backpack for $245. thats too much…there is not anywhere near that in materials and manufacturing costs…youre paying for design branding & the crumpler brand.

theyve always been overpriced even back 20 years ago when they were just one shop on smith st in collingwood…

        • @franco cozzo:

Try and find 1800D ripstop nylon, 1000D nylon, 800D nylon on AliExpress or eBay, factor in seams, good quality zippers, padding, workmanship, it definitely isn't cheap the last time I tried to look for just the fabric alone

      They are worth it.

      Sturdy zippers, great construction.

I have had a crumpler for daily use for 7 years, and the signs of wear are basically that my back is wearing a hole through the padding.

Lifetime warranty on zippers ( and maybe clips and straps).

Excellent deal op, I have been waiting for this exact model for a while now.

Note: I was getting out of stock in browser on PC, but then was able to add to cart in my phone. (i dunno why)

Click and collect available at: Castle Hill, Parramatta, Penrith, Bondi.

You should bring your old bag to a crumpler store and they can have it fixed for you.

        • You're right. I just dug out my old receipt, and will send them a couple photos. Fingers crossed.
I dont expect this to be covered under the warranty as its wear and tear rather than manufacturing or materials fault. But we'll see.

        • @ozbjunkie: Stitching is normally covered. Not sure about hole in padding though.

If you can do it in store because I find it better customer service. I never get a response from them via email.

        • @harkoliar:

Roger that. I went to bondi junction, matey took photos and said he'd ask his service department.

Fingers crossed. I can also DIY with some electrical tape, or iron on patches.

          Any other ideas?

        • @ozbjunkie: I was thinking about iron patches as well. Hope they can get that sorted for you first though.

Mine was stitching that was the issue and they fixed it like new. Took two weeks but its fixed.

I've bought a $40 no Brand bag and have been using for 4 years, taken it overseas 5 times and still like new.

But how can we rely on what you're saying?

      • +5

        Can't because I'm unreliable.

But how can we rely on what you're saying?

  • I don't know my daypacks very well but how does this compare to the 'Timbuktu' brand daypack on Catchoftheday for $30 (ClubCatch). https://www.catchoftheday.com.au/event/timbuk2-ikkyu-backpac… Is this $117 better at carrying around your stuff?

    • I can only report for crumpler, I don't know much about the other.

My suggestion is hit this up, or just get the catch one, and when/if it falls apart, you'll become converted.

150 should last you 5 years min, so I guess it depends on whether the catch one lasts a year or two.

    • yes… It is!

      Lifetime warranty, robust comfortable bag.
Best backpack I have ever owned…. Plus if it wears out they fix it for free.

You would have to go to Timbuktu and back to get your bag replaced! :)

I bought this crumpler bag in March at 40% off and have used it as a daily work bag for about 3-4 months out of that time. 3 weeks ago it started to tear where the zipper attaches to the rest of the bag. On the plus side, Crumpler offered to repair it without hesitation, but it'll take a month to fix and I was expecting to get more than a few months out of it.

I also have a Timbuk2 Q laptop backpack. It's smaller, lighter, and far more comfortable than the Crumpler, but it's less versatile and doesn't look as good. The build quality of the two bags seemed similar to me until the Crumpler broke.

That said, despite the durability issues I've had on the Crumpler, it's a more useful bag for me.
