      Cabramatta am I right?

      • Orange

      • How many years has that shop been there now? 30 years?

      • +1

        I vote Red Lea Cabramatta

      • -1

Of course, look at his username.

    • is that the one with chicken salt?

      • Paprika and chicken salt

  • +16

    Nandos

    • +2

Gotta be Nandos, always crispy from the several outlets I've tried and I can't get enough of the peri-peri seasoning, best in class for me imo.

    • +1

Since i moved to Australia in 2012 Nandos peri peri chips was the best chips i have every tried in my life. I moved to Sydney early this year and im sad to say the chips here in NSW(especially Sydney cbd) is shit compare to those in WA. I'm suspecting that they use different supplier for their chips in different state.

      • -7

Why haven't you moved back yet

  • +2

The fries are better at Hungry Jack's, but KFC has better seasoning.

    • +8

We must have wildly different Hungry Jacks then, because my local one tastes worse than Maccas.

      • +4

yea i think hungry jacks changed their chips semi recently , ew

  • +41

Add option for the local fish and chips shop.

    • +3

Yep, mine sells a huge bag for $3.80. A little too good…

      • +1

gotta pay $10 for a small bag where i am

        • +2

Wow, no ozbargainer would go there

        • +1

Shocker, here it's $5 for what would be 10 servings of regular fries at HJs.

      • $3 for me! Fills the big casserole dish I have with a few that leak out.

  • +7

Shouldn't we only have to vote for this every 4 years?

Who Has The Best Chips ?

    • Lol, Hungry Jack's had only 1 vote

      • +1

That's because they're drenched in a bucket of seasoning. Really need to tone it down a notch.

        • Last time I went to the Wynyard one they were horribly bland :\

        • +2

@elusive: How long ago was it though, they've changed theirs (at least in Vic) in the last couple months.

        • @Yoz:

Ah, maybe half a year. I'll have to try it again sometime, thanks.

        • +3

@elusive: Mm. I used to prefer KFC Chips ages ago. And then switched to McDonalds as my go-to but more recently the Hungry Jacks chips are definitely a winner. Currently, they feel like a hybrid (between fry and chip) and their coating seems almost like a super-crispy beer-batter or something.

        • @Yoz: And here I am trying to cut down on the fast food! :P

  • +17

Maybe it's just my local KFC but the chips are either over seasoned or not seasoned soggy chips. It's a rare treat when they cook it right.
    I like schnitz chips.

    • Of the two in Chatswood, I think the Chase KDC has great chips, while the Westfield one forgets to add any seasoning at all most of the time…

    • +1

Schnitz has the best chips I have ever tasted.

      • +1

        Sounds like it's the Schnitz

    • +1

I do find the KFC ones are often soggy, or become soggy after four seconds left in the bag. They're the best if they're fresh and cooked right, though.

  • +11

    Salsa's

    • +5

The time it takes to serve you, I could take a powernap. Not exactly 'fast' food.

  • So KFC is leading by a huge margin.

15 years ago when I ate fast food KFC chips were terrible compared to maccas/hungas.

    • +4

I'd wager it's mostly to do with their seasoning rather than the chip themselves.

I was always fond of shaker fries when they made a showing at maccas.

    • 15 yrs is a long time. The chips would have become more flavoursome by now.

    • +2

I will keep that in mind if I am out in the DeLorean.

  • +2

Hungry Jacks since they switched to thicker cut, then Opportos. Except for maybe Red Rooster the rest listed are barely even chips just dried up things call fries.

  • +7

Red Rooter all the way. I did like HJ until they changed them to those horrible thicker ones they use now.

    • +2

      +1 for Rooter!

    • +2

Their new chips are so much better bro, I personally hate fries.

      • Im seeing people either love or hate the new thick style, seems to be no middle ground. I always swap out for onion rings now- and ask for freshly cooked, as old ones are yuck

    • Red Rooster salt powder is awesome. That seasoning on takeaway chips would be perfect with some grilled fish.

  • +2

My local HJs chips taste like actual fart.. Kfc is always soggy and unseasoned, Maccas is meh so Red Rooster wins for me, Always 'fresh' and well seasoned (hate rest of their menu)

    • +7

      Kfc is always soggy

Heh - that is precisely how I recall them.

      But the majority disagrees!

      • I'm with you on that one…..

  • +1

    Chicken Express

Or Lone Star Amarillo cheese fries

    KFC is good

    • Is Chicken Express still around? I thought they all closed down which is a shame cause I sort of liked them

      • +1

Yeah they are gone in Sydney at least afaik :(

        Miss their mushroom popcorns

    • I remember rolling out of Lone Star so full, those fries though artery clogging goodness!

      • Oh god man Lone star chilli's and black stump for me have done really good memories!

  • +28

    Schnitz

  • +23

    Schnitz

  • Chicken salt all the way

  • +3

My old favourite from maybe a decade ago was the local Jesters. Then they closed :(

  • +1

Campsie Charcoal Chicken chips. It will blow your mind.

  • +5

    Jesters

  • The casino

  • +12

    Grild

    • +7

      yuck…

  • +2

Definitely not Oporto - their chips are consistently terrible.

  • seafood town -Woody Point QLD

    • what makes them special?

      • +1

their chips are gently crunchy on the outside with a soft internal texture. medium in thickness and not greasy or oily. perfectly accompanied with tartar sauce or aioli.

  • +15

    Definitely Schnitz

    • Yep, schnitz. Kfc is good but no where near schnitz.

    • Yep - how was this not in the poll!?!?

  • Not a fast food option, but one day I had fish and chips at Matt Doran's restaurant in Sydney (Aria). The chips were amazeballs.
Pretty sure the chips weren't on the menu too. They were hand cut.

    • 'Proper' chips? It took me two years to find somewhere that serves them. Glad I did, can't do frozen chips.

  • +4

Jesters (WA) and Salsa's (seasoning) need an honorable mention!

    Nando's Peri Peri chips + Perinaise… amazing.

Oh and I actually love Grill'd Zucchini chips with the chilli mayo sauce!

  • How much did the chips at Aria cost you bezza?

  • Tommo's Fish & Chippery, Chermside, Brisbane sell consistently good crispy chips.

  • +11

    Grill'd

Nice size, great seasoning, good crunch.
    I give it a 5/7

    Plus they serve beer

    • Yeah, but they are quite expensive!

    • Definitely in my top 3, plus with dipping sauces as well!

  • +11

    Schnitz

  • If ever you're in the Newcastle region, Henny Penny have pretty awesome chips, just make sure you ask for them to be cooked fresh though…they won't quibble at the request either, heaps of people ask for the same thing! ;)

  • +2

Lord of the Fries - always amazing.

  • -2

Pepper Lunch has the best chips

  • I wonder if those who voted for KFC have tried Hungry Jack's new chips.

    • KFC > HJs Old Chips > HJs New Chips

      • +4

IMO, HJs Chips > KFC >> HJs old Chips. To each their own :)

  • +2

Hogs Breath hog tail fries .

    • +1

If these are the curly ones, then yes.

      • +1

Yes,that's them ,curly fries!.Probably don't count as food food but tasty as !

        • Fast food

  • +11

Kingsley's Chicken, as they say “Unbelievable chicken, awesome chips"

    • +1

The first thing I do when I go to Canberra is stop in at Kingsley's. Great gravy as well.

  • +8

    Schnitz

  • +2

KFC chips are nasty, little flavour like eating cardboard

nandos and red rooster are wayy better

  • +6

    schnitz by far

  • +3

Only Fish and Chip shops have chips.

Everyone else has those stupidly piddly little American things called "fries"

    • but technically thin versions are chips are well as far as Australian English is concern.

Anyway thin chips in my opinion are never as good as thick ones. Can taste the potato flavour :)

  • +1

Anyone tried the Red Lea chips at Cabramatta. Those are bomb.

  • +7

Grill'd are the best chips I've had, with the herbed mayo. But if you're in Toowoomba you need to get Super Rooster chips (local chicken chain)…

    • Yep +1mil votes for Super Rooster! So good :)

  • -2

They are all bad for you.
