MEL / SYD / BNE to Noumea from $249 One Way Economy / $549 Business Class - Qantas

110

Qantas currently have Melbourne, Sydney or Brisbane to Noumea one way for $249 economy class / $549 business class as part of their "Fly Away Sale". This is similar to the deal I posted back in June.

Flight availability is from the end of Feb 2017, all the way through to end of October 2017. Melbourne departures transit through Sydney, with both Qantas and AirCalin making the flight to Noumea.

As mentioned previously, picking up a business return fare ex Melbourne is the real kicker, and will likely appeal to those looking for status credits in order to retain QF elite status. Flying MEL-SYD-NOU return in business will net you 200 status credits, which is a significant haul for the cost outlay - just be sure to make sure your flights all hold a QF number in order to ensure they are eligible for SC (and points) earn. Edit: thanks to chrisishere for pointing out that you can also fly MEL-BNE-NOU return in business for 240 SCs / $1088.

Potential to use a return business flight for Qantas Gold status challenge
Note that if timed properly, 200 status credits also seems to be the magic number for obtaining QF Gold status through a 'status challenge' - i.e. asking Qantas to match elite status with another airline (such as Virgin or Air New Zealand). Many people have reported being offered a status challenge to Qantas gold if you complete 200 status credits in 90 days. Wow! Never been in a business class before. This might be the time! :) Never heard of the place so googling it apparently it's in New Caledonia. Things to do suggestions??

Laze by a pool for a week?

Wouldn't be worth the money for QF business class on a 737-800. Flying the AirCalin A330 is the way to go however its only 3hrs

If you're really chasing SC's from Melbourne. There is MEL-BNE-NOU return for $1088 which will net you a nice 240SC's.

      Thanks, have updated the deal.

    • Thanks - how do you route via BNE?

      • Should be in one of the search options, keep trying different days.

  • Let's say if you did get gold status through status challenge can you then apply for a platinum status challenge afterwards?

    • I suspect that QF would only allow you one go at a status challenge - but suggest reading the Statusmatcher testimonials (link in post) for more info.

  • How many SC's do you need for gold?

  • is it possible to just apply for a status challenge without status with another airline?

  • I've been upgraded to business class on a few flights to Noumea before, but it's such a short flight!

  • Do they only fly A320/B737 there ?

I checked some random dates on seat guru and can't see any others…

Qantas only flies 737s with domestic Business Class to Noumea. However they sell seats on Aircalin (New Caledonian airline) who use A320s & A330s.

Any matching cruise deals for the other way? ;)

    • No, there aren't one way cruises from NC, deal or no.

One way? Might have to just stay there forever.

  • Anyone got tips of when to go, where to stay etc ?

    • Chose carefully. New Cal is one of those places where for example, dinner and drinks can cost a fortune or can be found for a bargain. Some bars and eateries etc offer a significant discount off menu prices if you say you are from a cruise. Might be worth asking, they don't check. Try and get to the beaches away from Noumea. Great place for kiteboarding / windsurfing. Oh, and learn some French!
