    • FAQ:

What is the difference between the front page and the new deals page?

The new deals page has all the latest deals that have been submitted by users. They are displayed in order from most recently published. >However, when a deal becomes popular (reaches a threshold based of votes), it is moved to the Front page. The number of positive votes to push a deal to the front page changes based on the sites popularity and other factors but by default it is 25 votes. However, you can override the settings by

      • Go to the New Deals page.
      • Click on “Preference” just under the title.
      • Adjust the “Minimum Votes” value.

Wow not sure what all the rage is about, Bangood have the same sort of deals all the time. Here they have tried to provide an opportunity for Ozbargain that the Russian scripters cant jump on, and its a problem? Many people (far more than 10 by the look of it) will get a bargain of some kind from this promotion, I would suggest that if you don't like it you can move on and ignore it, its not going to cost you anything.

For the record, I have purchased many $100s worth of stuff off gearbest over time (3d printing, Arduino stuff etc) and never had an issue - I have had DOAs and failures over time of some stuff (twice from memory) and had new items send to me no questions asked after I have supplied proof.

  • So realistically, the only chance 99% of us have of completing the purchase would be for a crap looking watch or a teddy bear. Not good. Would be interested in the Xiaomi earphones but with a quantity of only 30, that's highly unlikely too.

  • I'm just annoyed that I'll be at work at said times and there's no way I'll come out ahead using a phone and mobile internet~

Didn't really pay attention to the times at first :(

  • +3

Not every member can benefit so how's this a bargain?? It's a raflle not a bargain.

    • +1

Many deals are posted that not every member can benefit from. Eg: WA only deals, or targeted offers. Not a valid us of the beg imo

      • +7

Everyone in WA is still a lot more than 1

        • In total, there are hundreds of items on sale during the promo. I understand issues with Gearbest, and I completely accept those negs. However, saying there's insufficient quantity for this deal is IMO incorrect.

        • +1

For WA, maybe call the deal Lotterybest?

  • +4

    Major issues with retailer

  • +1

    Let the games begin….

I think most of the OzBargainers are ready to pay a better price if there is more quantity of items

  • +6

    Click bait

Myself and many other OzBargainers have had terrible experience with GB in the past… they were banned for a reason.

  • +4

It is quite obvious all of the moderators/higher up's have been to told to regurgitate the same speel that their exists sufficient quantity. In the past there would be some qualitative discussion and interpretation of the rules but this deal has already been pre-planned for the OzBargain 10th Birthday Party celebration and all users should stop arguing as comments are futile.

    • +3

Yep, just had my neg removed

      • +2

It might have been legit, I find if you neg according to the rules it usually stays. However the rules for negging are quite strict and usually unless a deal is completely terrible/dodgy you can't neg it. Make sure you include a valid explanation.

    • No,that's bullshit. We don't give a shit if deals do well or not. We will always enforce our guidelines. P. S. I wrote quantity guidelines.

      Deal Posting Guidelines: Insufficient Quantity:

If your deal has limited quantity, please mention it in the description. If the quantity is too small then your deal may be removed. As a guideline, less than 10 quantity of items is not enough for a deal unless the item has a high price.

This applies to the overall deal not picking and choosing 1 item out of a list of 20 different products. The deal has sufficient quantity. Where there it limited quantity is has been mentioned in the description.

  • I'm in for a Nitecore torch and Megir Watch - if I am lucky enough to get them!

  • hey guys,

these sorts of things arnt my cup of tee, like if atleast 10% of the community can get the good stuff then its not a bargain but a competition/promotion…..

in any event i wont stand int he way of other people, its no suprise russians got the codes last time, just multiple the value by 10-20x and for them its a way of life or job really, a few months pay…

for me its just an ammusment, and end of the day click frenzy ect… jetstar sales $9 i just over look them and move on….

I'm disgusted about the way how OzBargain moderators/admin have handled the communities concensus of this post.

They [mods/admin] are on the same level as the company/rep who have posted this so called 'deal'.

    Shame on you.

    -On behalf of Ozbargain Community

    • +5

…Also, shame on the mod that removed my negative vote on this post, it was clearly in-line with the guidelines of this website.

    • +8

OzBargain is not an independent community. It is a business which is supposed to bring buyers and sellers together. The days of crazy deals being posted with everyone rushing to check stock are pretty rare.

A company exists to make money. If they are giving you something, you are not the person paying them.
Ozbargain exists to share deals with people. They then sell advert space on the website by saying, "10 million page views per year. We will sell you advert space for x amount. Expect this works slightly differently due to adsense.

On top of this is affiliate links, if a user clicks this we the x% of the purchase price.

Furthermore are paid promos or paid rule relaxations, let X user post deal on our behalf and we pay X amount. Hopefully this doesn't occur a lot here.

The sites don't exist for you out of the goodness of their hearts. They do them to MAKE MONEY.

      • +2

You are generalising the whole thing. I have no problem with ad spaces. I would even ask my non register friends to white list Ozb from ad blocker. This IS my favourite site and I contributed to a certain degree. So far I am really happy that site business is running well.

However, this sort of hidden ad implant and blatant denial is a different story all together. This is not what I have been supporting.

      • +1

Furthermore are paid promos or paid rule relaxations, let X user post deal on our behalf and we pay X amount. Hopefully this doesn't occur a lot here.

I'm sure this doesnt happen at all here. Mods here are extremely strict and transparent in their actions how they enforce the rules. Regarding limited quantity items in description, Ive posted many deals where there are limited quantity items in the description, and no action was taken by the mods as long as the title had >10 quantity. Theyve always been consistent with how they enforce the rules.

Of course ozbargain is a business who needs to make profit to sustain employees, but their success over other bargain sites i believe is due to being community driven and transparent. if scotty only cared about making profit, he wouldnt be donating to charities and having regular giveaways. Im sure the revenue from ads and affiliate links rakes in enough revenue.

    • +2

There are 3:1 positive:negative votes for this one, I think you have missed the consensus of the community.

      • +7

Only because mods removed legitimate negs. Get out of your rock.

        • +5

Less than 20 negs have been revoked. I've reported many illegitimate negs, there are guidelines - neg properly if you don't want it revoked. I've already seen many negs with comments like 'crap deal' or 'neg from me' that will get removed - just offer enough explanation for your negs and it will stay (the case for over 60 negs).

      • +1

Mods have been mass removing legit neg's, that's why the vote looks the way it does. We suspect OP has multiple company userd mass-downvoting as well, because most legit neg's are getting 2+ neg votes of their own indide 30-60 seconds of posting them. Only OP and and alternate account could respond so fast.

        • +3

I honestly hope that's not the case. I have no problem with GB so far as I find their rep Sunny quite helpful. This fake deal is what pissed me off.

        • No, that's incorrect. All votes are audited. Please report any comments that you feel suspicious about.

          Voting Guidelines

      • +4

Also there are criteria that need to be met to submit a neg but not for a pos vote. This simple barrier is guaranteed to skew the ratio as well.

I would be interested how this lies on the bell curve relative to other deals in terms of total number of negs and neg ratio. I wouldn't be surprised if it's way at the pointy end. That alone says something I think.

        • Unlimited number of + votes but max of 5 negs per day (for comments). Guaranteed that votes will be always skewed towards +
Savas can tell us what's the max number of positive deal votes per user per day

    • @BrainWaves

Hi, I see you are a new member so I'll explain a couple of things.

It's not up to moderators to determine what is a good deal and what isn't, it's the community. You can do so via comments and votes but there are guidelines for voting. Your vote:

      Let's make OzBargain great again!

is invalid. It doesn't help the community to determine why this isn't a good deal and frankly is trolling. See help for more info.

OzBargain is an independent site. NONE of the deals are being paid for or sponsored. I'll repeat what I said before, it's not up to moderators to determine what is a good deal and what isn't. What is important is to consistently (to our best ability) enforce our deal posting guidelines and our voting guidelines.

Feel free to ask any questions via Talk with a Moderator Forum

This is ridiculous. Definitely more of a competition for the items with only 1 available. Those should be removed from the deal leaving the Teddy bear and watch and other items with actual stock.

  • +2

At item with qty of 1 is no way a deal as there is a very slim to impossible chance anyone can get it…

  • +6

Is this some sort of joke? Misleading clickbait Title. Very limited quantities for the only good stuff. This is just a competition/advertising promotion and should not be in the deals section. The quality of OzBargain is dropping.

Just want to register my dissatisfaction with the situation here

The deal was posted with item numbers under the guidelines

Many members have pointed out, without rancour on the most part, the near impossibility of securing items of any significant worth thus making this not a deal in the opinion of many.

Mods have made a decision that as long as it is a bit possible to get a couple of items in a looooong list the deal is a deal so the "rules" are met.

On the other side mods have seemingly been a bit fierce on applying rules that delete neg votes thus subverting the wishes of members to downvote this deal, thus the deal is more likely to remain on the front page under the positive to negative vote ratio rule.

Noone looks good here, the vendor has garnered a significant amount of ill will judging by comments, the mods (and the ethos of the site) in their actions have, how shall we say, confused many as to why this deal seems to have the status that it does. Questions from members asking "why", to me, indicate that the Obargain's reputation as a place for the posting of possible to attain deals could have been sullied. The mere mentioning of the suspiciaon of "payment" to get this listed, no matter how improbable that actually having transpired, is a huge alarm bell for the possibility of damage to Ozbargain's reputation IMHO

It is not a good look.

    • +1

Hopefully your legit concerns and reason for a neg vote don't get removed like the rest of us. I threw an upvote your way just in the hope your comment wont get buried like the rest of ours have.

Thanks Neil, but as others have mentioned, this requirement can be given lip service by adding the required number against items of dubious merit (and yes, I realise, "merit" is in the eye of the beholder). That is the real problem here for many posters.

(added on edit)….I should have acknowledged there are a couple of items of merit that have a number available, however when the world can knock on your door 50 (or 100) is not much better, it does however go a step towards meeting requirements. This is why I still have little conviction that this is a genuine "deal" and not bordering on "clickbait".

        • Sure. But for consistency we treat all deals the same and this deal does meet guidelines. We can't pick and choose which deals to enforce the guidelines on.

    • +1

Thankyou mate. I think you summarised how I feel about this deal as well very accurately.

      • +2

        Thanks jackary.

To me this thread has become something more than being about this deal and morphed into a dialogue between the site ownership and the community. My read is that the community wishes the site to be ethically run and is concerned that commercial imperatives may be bending what is felt to be their perception of why the site was founded and should be run. Management is saying there are rules, they are purposely loose and your perceptions will not influence nor govern how we see or moderate the slack in said rules.

Why do I get the feeling people are going to buy 10 of the USD$10 items that can click the fastest
and its then out of stock
and 1 week later they are selling it on ebay

I hope some of these items that is normally USD$100-USD$300 down to USD$10 are one buy only per account

  • +14

Oh god not this website. Absolute scam
Never received my items. Tried to contact them, ignored me sent me in circles. Don't trust this website, absolute joke.

    • +5

they were banned on ozb for not sending out items to numerous people! not sure why they're unbanned now…

      • You can read the whole history on this thread. We advised all OzBargain members who were having issues with this site to use that thread so we could get some resolution to the problems.

        • After numerous outstanding issues, we blocked gear best in June 2014 pending resolution of these issues and what they would do in the future to ensure these issues don't happen again.
        • August 2014, all or most of the issues reported by members were resolved. See here.
        • Septmember 2014, Gearbest was unbanned. See here
        • October 2015, Gearbest again ran into more of the same issues and was banned.
        • September 2016. After positive feedback from members and some GB changes they made, we unbanned Gearbest. See here.

If users are having issues again, the please post in that thread mentioned to see if the rep can resolve the problem.

        • -2

How about just protecting the users of this site (you know, the customers that keep this place in business) from being exploited by shady business like GearScam who operate with unacceptable service standards and advertising practices - by banning the scummy business, instead of promoting them and fobbing off customer concerns onto their customer retention staff here at OzB?

        • @infinite:

Did you not read what I wrote? I'll simplify it:

If many users have unresolved issues = banned.
If many users don't have unresolved issues = not banned.

Currently many users don't have unresolved issues and the store is not banned. But if users go to that thread (we are encouraging them to do so) and there are many issues are no resolved then banned. This applies to all stores.

        • @cxeq:

To get more perspective, you'd probably have to see the comments for all the recent Gearbest deals.

ozbargain wouldn't happen to be a member of this program would they?

OzBargain serves affiliate links to guest users (non-logged in users). If you try going to any of the deals in the link above (incognito mode or log out), it seems it is going through Commission Factory. That's just my deduction, you should PM Scotty for a definite answer.

        • -1

@neil: What a devious way to make a buck. Then how can any mod possibly suggest this isn't a sponsored deal? OzB has a very direct motive to keep this deal on front page AS LONG AS POSSIBLE! Explains the overzealous removal of neg votes.

Edit: comment edited to remove some shock. It appears there is a mention of affiliate links is in the FAQ but my disgust with its use remains. In the interests of transparency, would any mod care to advise what commission OzB earned last FY monetising its ever-loyal user base?

        • @jackary:

What a devious way to make a buck.

I hate to break it to you but that's how every other bargain site functions (hotukdeals, topbargains, etc). We however differ by NOT showing them for users who are logged in.

Moderation has nothing to do with affiliate links. We aren't removing votes to keep it on the front page. Seriously, take off the tin foil hat mate.

Moderators (including myself) have no idea about the financials. Frankly, with the amount of time spent moderating this deal, on a weekend, I would prefer to have it not published.

        • @neil: Ahh, I get the logic - these 2 bargain sites are a bit dodgy so it's OK for us to be too.

Commenters are reporting their email addresses are being sold to third parties - GB have been banned multiple times - half of the commenters in this thread are in bloody revolt - may I make a suggestion - rather than throw insults at those you're meant to moderate (I'll keep my tin foil hat on thanks) - how about you protect them as a moderator should, do as you wish, and unpublish the deal?

Blatent disregard of the rules to keep the sponsors happy. This is a contest not a deal. If they wanted to give us a deal they could do so with less discount but more stock

I have seen GearBest advertised on OzBargain sidebar and banners plenty of times before, if it's not sponsorship then I don't see why you are fighting the community on this one tooth and nail.

I would understand if it was something like a car on special for $35,000 from $40,000 - $5000 is a hell of a saving but only 3 of them would be sufficient because not many people would buy such a high price item. In this case, $10 is not a high price. This is a contest designed to get thousands of visitors to compete over a handful of the same item. If they only posted about those items which they did actually have enough quantity of then it wouldn't be an issue.

        • Not fighting at all. Just clearing up false statement about OzBargain and the guidelines. Google Ads are autogenerated based on your surfing habits.

This deal and this site isn't sponsored. OzBargain is independent.

Ozbargain earns money from non-members clicking affiliate links, including the link in the deal above.

How can you possibly claim to be independent?

        • Just because a site runs affiliate links, it doesn't mean it's not independent. Please peruse the FAQ.

I think we are getting off-topic here from discussing Gearbest + guidelines. Feel free to discuss in site discussion.

Negging for obvious reasons. Don't post up these "bait" type deals OP. It's an unfair way to advertise.

  • +2

need to remove the items with very limited quantity <10….

  • +6

OzBargain10 = about 10 people will get a great deal here, no-one else.

    • +2

More like >100 people when you consider the 50x 64GB Samsung SD cards 30x Mi Band 2, 20x Raspberri Pi, 30x Piston Hybrids and many other items. But problem is that there will probably be thousands trying to get it.

  • Gearbest = New COTD ?

  • Low quantity

Scotty - I took personal insult to your earlier comment to another user saying he "doesn't know why OzB was created". And as others have asked, if you're going to make such a comment, tell us - I want the long version.

It's worth mentioning that 20 "inappropriate" neg votes have now been filtered. Pathetic.

You upvoted this neg: 'Negging this cause I don't like trump'. Please tell me how that is an appropriate reason for a neg which shouldn't be filtered? Just neg properly and it will stay.

Glad someone gets the voting system. I didn't even neg you yet! But here. Have a downvote.

I upvoted for several reasons. Because a) I have a sense of humour but more because b) it was a rather obvious tongue in cheek joke, to point out the fact that whether the neg is valid or otherwise, it will be revoked - as a third have.

I'm not really sure how any of this is relevant or of any importance to you or other commenters…

        • +5

I'm just tired of people negging with comments like 'crap deal' or 'neg from me' or the tongue in cheek jokes, and then ranting when it gets revoked for not meeting the guidelines. I do not find the removal of negs 'pathetic' as the mods have not removed any legitimate negs that have provided a proper reason.

        • @lyl: Its cherry picking at best and that's my entire point. If you'd like to scroll through all of my comments you'll see not once have I explained why I placed a negative vote (though rather obvious) - so why does mine stand?

        • @jackary:

When there's 377 comments and 80+ negs, it's really hard to read every single comment by every single person, but doesn't mean that mods shouldn't try their best to enforce rules. I've helped with reporting a few negs and most have been removed.

Anyways just had a read of all your 11 comments (sigh), and it does appear that you haven't provided a reason, so I just sent in a report.

        • +2

          @lyl: Sure.

Mods: I negged because on 2 seperate occasions (once 2015, once 2016) I've purchased from GB and they've not delivered what I paid for. Much messing around with PayPal for a refund. Just. Like. Everybody. Else.

        • @jackary: can you send me your order number.

        • +1

@monty.melb: Can you speak to me like you're representing a business?

Used disposable email on both occasions (obvious reasons) - no. If a company can't even bother responding to a PayPal dispute before it expires, twice, what opportunity do they deserve to rectify now?

        • +3

@jackary: well if you can not supply with order number, no way Gearbest can resolve your issue with your order.

        • @jackary:

Thanks for finally justifying your neg, wasn't hard was it?

          Just. Like. Everybody. Else.

I've only ordered from Gearbest once in 2015 which arrived, so I don't have much experiences to share. Sorry to hear your situation, it's quite unfortunate what happened. But from observing recent 2016 deals it appears that nearly all orders are arriving, and that Gearbest have improved their customer support.

        • +5

@monty.melb: I didn't ask for help. I was asked to justify the use of my neg vote, so I did.

Fool an entire community once… wait twice - wait NO NO THREE TIMES, right?

    • +6

      Pathetic.

Yes, those people that think they can substantiate a neg vote with few words and no reason are pathetic, thankyou for pointing that out I'm glad someone has :)

      • -1

Yes how dare anyone reflect what is clearly user sentiment. You're right.

3 upvotes from 3 prominent OzB sellers. Good for you! Have one from me too!!!!!!!1!1!!!111

        • +1

          OzB sellers

          Posters*

          Someone's having a fun time here :)

        • -6

@lyl: Nah sellers. One even makes a living hocking their wares here dude.

        • @jackary:

Ah just love 'selling' my time to find deals for users like you to enjoy :)

        • +3

@lyl: You're pretty literate, care to show me where I referred to you at all?

Appreciate your efforts, spare the pseudo-goodwill rot

        • @jackary:

Whoops sorry i may have misread, guess I got a bit excited because I've never been called a 'prominent seller' before XD
I was part of the '3 upvotes' so had a feeling you might've been referring to me.
