$240 Credit on New Optus Connection @ Harvey Norman

110

Hi guys,

Went to Harvey Norman yesterday and was told that they have an exclusive offer running in store until next Sunday:

If you port any number, or add any new service on an Optus 24-month plan with phone, they will provide you $240 credit.

For example, I was looking at the Samsung S7 with 7GB of data for $65.
They apply the credit on the 2nd bill so I dont get charged on the 2nd month (240-65=175). Same goes for the 3rd (175-65=110) and the 4th month (110-65=45). The 5th month I will get charged $20 and start paying $65 from the 6th month.

It worked also in conjuction with the $20 discount Optus has on the $120 plan with 20GB.

Example: This iPhone 7 deal with 20GB for $100/m. 2nd and 3rd months will be free, 4th month gets charged $60 and $100 from the 5th month.

Hopefully, this will help some of you guys!

Edit: NOT a store representative. Not sure why I was tagged as such.

  • Only for 24 month plans?

Might be okay if can be combined with cheap offers ($50/mo, etc)

  • I always ask and end up with 2 months free or 15% discount

    are there any $10 plans?

I like the way you think.

  • What are the phone available for $50 plan ?

  • I rang Nunawading and asked if this deal would apply if I moved from my SIM only plan to a new plan+phone, and they told me no. Apparently only for brand new connections or porting a prepaid number over. Damn :(

  • The galaxy s5 is on a 40$ plan. Can we get this offer?
Worth it at the price, especially if we can get the 10% student discount lol (which i am).

    • Yes it works with any plan or phone. 6 months of free service!

    • Hm, effectively $30/month.

We're paying $16/month for my partners phone (that's the cheapest plan I could find, she uses almost zero data) so it makes a brand new S5 only $336. Very tempting.

  • Is it possible to get credit when i purchase ipad on 24 months plan?

    • I want to know that as well, I am looking for a big iPad Pro

    • Confirmed from HN Castle Hill, they don't do iPad plans with Optus. Only phone plans with $240 credit.

  • I don't get how you calculated it "2nd and 3rd month will be free" if you have a credit of 240, wouldn't it 1st and 2nd month free and 60 on third then 100 forth? Please tell me if I missed something

    • They apply the credit on the second bill

      This is what you missed

  • Anyone could tell me if they can do better?

Looking for an Iphone 7 plus 128gb:
$91 plan (1gb per month … pretty expensive for what it is) = $2184 for 24 month
    student discount = $218
    harvey norman = 240

    Grand total = $1726
    Per month average = $71.9

    What do you think?

    • Pretty good as long as 1GB is enough for you. For me it isn't.

You're getting an expensive phone for a fairly decent price, though I would still balk at paying $1726 for a phone with 1GB data a month. But that's just me.

      • If it was for me, I'd get a oneplus3T … Girlfriend is a bit of an apple zombie so I guess she can add 1GB when she gets low data. As she already pays $30 a month and will most likely do so for the next 2 years, the iphone will cost me $1006 … Not bad but way too pricy imo

Can anybody confirm whether you can apply the 10% student discount in store at HN and then combined with the bonus $240 credit?

    • I'd like to know this to.
I might be going instore later today or thursday.
I'll ask then and report back unless someone else hopefully beats me to it

I tried yesterday, i couldn't do it. Maybe have a go yourself, the rep at harvey norman was kind of a prick (pleonasm) and tried to upsale me constantly.

Yeah I'm expecting to be hit with all sorts of "oh you need to get extended warranty and rust protection for your phone" tactics.
Hardly normals is stuck in the 1950's.
I'm going in today, I'll probably sign up for an s7 even if it is just the 240 off and no 10% off.

@damoo: Good luck and tell us how it went

        • @damoo:
          interested to know too

        • @outlander:
Just gone in today and no luck getting the student discount

        • @damoo:
Thats weird, I asked yesterday and the dude said no, but after double checking with his his manager he said it would be fine.

  • I wish they would do deals like this mid year when a Galaxy S is not almost superceded by the next model.

This is great if you're after an iPhone though.

Personally I think I'll wait a few more months for the S8, and keep my S6 for the time being.
