BlackBerry Pearl 8120 Boost Pre-Paid Mobile Phone $99 @ Target

80

I've been searching for a reasonbly-priced smartphone and saw this on Target's catalogue, which starts on 01-Jul. I've never used Boost Mobile, but I do intend on just getting it unlocked.

StaticICE had the cheapest for this model at $189.

    is it locked?

    • Of course it is. OP just said they intend to get it unlocked.

  • what is boost?

Looks like it's a national price drop…worth it? Was looking for a nice small phone with wifi to replace my Nokia 6500 Classic.

  • Boost runs over the Optus network, anyone know if this will work with an Optus sim?

    • +1

      looks like it does
and cheers bomber_bloke, that makes it easier

  • if I am not mistaken, this model doesn't come with 3G.

    • "smart"phone without 3G !??

      • Yeah, terrible that it will use the more reliable network 2g and probably drop out less.

These things go fine on a Blackberry Plan

      • smartphones have been around for a long, long time, they just haven't been quite so popular until now.

    • thats a deal breaker for me, oh well

  • yeh id say will work with any sim that uses optus network. yeh doesntt look like it has hsdpa, good deal but browsing online would be so slow! still + for me

  • Looks like have to pay $60 per month to boost mobile, if you do want to take adventage of Blackberry Internet Services (BIS), which includes unlimited BB email, BB internet.

no wifi = no smart phone.

  • Optus = Boost.

No different. I was using a Boost SIM in Optus Hardware for many years.

  • Does it works with 3 (Three) SIM? Anyone knows? If yes, i may grab one.

    • Isn't 3 a 3G service? The mobile doesn't have 3G, therefore 3 SIMs probably won't work.

      • No three is a company, 3g is a network standard

Three is now part of Vodafone so it uses their standard network, 3g is mainly for data ie websurfing /email 2g is for voice and sms mainly.

        • Nonsense. And kerfuffle's meaning was plain enough.
A 3 sim will only drop to 2G (telstra or voda) when 3g is not available.

They used to block people using 2g phones. Maybe that has changed since the merger.

          • @freddy: So how about we both answer the actual question lol

The answer being yes the three sim will work in this phone, when it is unlocked for use on another network ie it is locked to boost/optus

  • I went in2 optus shop and you can use the sim but wont be able 2 access the internet through the optus sim only boost :(
