  • When did they sneak in FREE Apple Music streaming?

    • +1

Been like that for a while (few months)

    • +1

Pretty much since Apple Music launched last year

  • About time Telstra came to the party. Voda and Optus have had much better plans for a while

  • +4

Just chat Telstra online and they will give you discount on 70 dollar plan for 50 bux per month and increase the data to 12gb. If you try harder they would probably also throw in some welcome credit for you for around 100 bux so effectively it's two months free. Pretty good deal as it comes unlimited international calls and domestic calls as well.

$70 plan has a 5gb bonus so should be 15gb?

      • +1

Yep I applied before the bonus thing so I only got 2gb. You might be able to negotiate 17gb if you are polite enough.

        • My first try online failed
My second try in-store referred me to try calling
My third try was successful although with the following proviso:

          • 15GB was the max for the $70 plan.
The additional 2GB that I previously had was added to another service on my account (so as to maintain the shared quota overall)
        • @redwiggle:

Care to provide a quick run down on how you went about negotiating that deal?

I'm an existing customer on prepaid…

          @Sir Casm:

          Sorry,
I only just saw this notification.

I basically just connected to online chat to ask them if they would add the extra 5GB bonus data since I had only just recontracted.

I also asked if they could maintain my loyalty bonus of 2GB as that's why I recontracted initially.

The consultant said that 15GB (10GB + 5GB) was the max they could apply to the service, so I asked if she would be able to add the 2GB to another service on my account (I have 3 shared accounts) so that I don't lose the loyalty data overall. They were kind enough to check and apply it.

Hope that helps and good luck!

        • @redwiggle:

Mate that's a terrific deal! Kudos for twisting their arm, you must have gotten a really friendly rep!

          @Sir Casm:

          Thanks Mate.
Absolutely - very lucky on the third try. The first two tries had me a little disheartened :)

The guys on whirlpool forums are crazy - some of the deals they get are really good.

    • That is true - but with this new deal they may be less inclined to (maybe??)

    • Did you get it this month? I tried and they refused.

      • Got it in early Oct. Just try again with someone else. I did the same. Asking them to give you 20 bux off per month and then give you extra data and welcome credit.

        • Guess you guys were lucky. Tried 3 times and no luck.

      • Really depends who you get with Telstra as to what they can do for you. The disconnections team usually are great to talk to.

    • I was able to re-contract and keep my $15 monthly credits. So essentially 10GB data for $35/month. The lady on the other end of the chat was very nice. I should have asked for more, but didn't want to push it.. haha

      • how do you have $15 monthly credits? i thought you only had $5?

        • I've got a $20 valued customer discount but the person I spoke to this week wouldn't let it carry over.

        • yeh I got $5 valued customer bonus first, and then I also tried to get them to match the Mx plans again recently, they couldn't because I was still on contract (about 1 month to go) but they said they will give me $10/month credit to at least match the price. I guess they forgot to take off the original valued customer bonus. They also took off 500MB bonus data so I was getting 6.5GB/month. Then I asked them that I should have been getting 7GB and then they added 2GB to bring my total to 8.5gb/month for $35. But then this new 10gb deal came up and my contract is up so I was willing to re-contract again if they were able to carry over my monthly credits.

@flashi007 how did you get $20 discount? were you on the $70 plans?

        • @Spazmos:
It was 2 years ago when the iPhone 6 was just out. I called and recontracted and had read a whirlpool thread on the valued customer bonus. I want to maintain the $20 credit but I've called once and they won't maintain it

    • I tried twice online and no success

    • unlimited international calls and domestic calls as well.

Hi, where does it say unlimited international calls, I cannot find that in the text or is it only for specific countries?

  • I just got the "L" ($70) plan for $50 however they only gave me 10gb data. Something to think about if you want the "M" plan but with unlimited calls/texts + international calls/texts, and can't be bothered negotiating like me. This suited me because I only use about 2gb a month.

    • Should call up again to get extra 2gb and welcome credits. Eventually they will do it for you.

    • I can't even get the $50 for 10Gb offer - hopeless at negotiation I guess :?(

  • I'm a bit confused about the comments regarding the L plan

On the website, the Large Plan is 10GB base + 5GB bonus data = 15GB total.

So for people just signing up to / or recontracting - you should be getting 15GB (AND carrying across your existing loyalty bonuses)

Thanks OP for posting this - made me check the L plan.

edit: just saw Huey's comment. So yes - it has been mentioned.

  • I didnt bother to negotiating with them, I just upgrade my existing $40 with 7gb to $50 with 10gb, it was simple and easy.

  • Thanks, got the L plan with 15g for $60.

  • Another question, can the credits (monthly fee, $50 etc) be used towards purchases on google play?

  • Been on the online chat for about an hour including the half hour wait. Managed to get 10gb @ $40/month plus free apple music. Happy enough. My previous 7.5Gb @ $40/ month just rolled over and actually decreased to only 7Gb, so pretty stoked to get an extra 3Gb for a bit of effort behind the keyboard.

    • I am always wondering what do you actually start saying when negotiating this kind of thing?

Do you just go I would like to pay the same amount but have 10gb instead of 7?

I am so bad at this.

      • +1

Tell them that Optus and Vodafone are so much cheaper

      • +1

Pretty much what theblake has said.

Cheaper with other carriers. Same prices being advertised for more data. Not happy with perceived increased cost, etc.

My contract for the previous $40 deal ran out in November too, so I was effectively out of contract and free to leave/disconnect.

I also went straight to disconnections, not bill inquiries.
