Damn efficiency gains are crazyThe 6GB GTX1060 is definitely faster than a gtx970. Whilst it costs ~$50 more retail you get:
6GB vs 4GB RAM (better future proofing when you consider the 970's gimped memory config.)
Far more power efficient (~120W vs ~200W)
Less power used whilst gaming = cooler running system6GB vs 3.5GB ***
Go the new amd's instead.

It might be an ok price for a 970, but with the 1060 available for basically the same price you may as well be getting that. It's newer, uses less power, and generally slightly faster.
