Amazon France's Cyber Monday Offer, Vat is removed at checkout to bring the final price down. Not as good as the Amazon US 750GB deal, but still a decent price for a SSD.

  • I don't suppose the $10 US amazon credit we got from the recent deal is usable on this given that it's Amazon France?

    • No, two different gift card currencies issues for two different stores. That would be like asking if an Amazon US gift card will work on Amazon UK.

      • But.. but.. PayPal credit works in different currencies! Albeit at a crappy rate

        • Paypal is an international payment processor, not operating stores in multiple countries.

        • @hollykryten: Haha I know.

As my question was worded I was assuming it wouldn't work, but I thought there was a small possibility (that it may work in a similar way to PayPal credit) but I get your explanation.

          Thanks

          @illumination:

Not a chance!. This is Amazon we are talking about. haha

  • Is this a good unit? Fast enough for an upgrade from regular hd?

    • +11

Any SSD is superior and a lot faster than a hard drive even the fastest hard drive. This would make your hard drive look very slow.

      • ^^^ this :)

      • +1

Ahh… reminds me the 2x WD Raptor HDDs collecting dust. Used to run them in RAID 0 and that was pretty fast. Now a random SSD can easily beat them.

      • This should be a sticky.

    • Yes, good bang for buck SSD

      • i have two crucial 256gb m500's in raid 0

if i get two of these would they be just as fast or faster? i understand the mx300s use the slower (TLC?) nand?

        also mx300 vs sandisk ultra 2 920gb which is 182usd atm? ($260aud roughly or = 2x mx300's

        • Your Crucial M500 have a higher quality MLC nand. These Crucial MX300 have the lower quality TLC nand. The endurance on your M500 should be much higher. More reliable over the longer term especially since you're running in RAID 0.

        • @hollykryten: damnit

which of the new ones use MLC then?

how about the crucial M4? still have one of those which i use as my gaming installation directory drive

        • @furythree:

None of the Crucial SSD these days still on the market as far as i know uses MLC nand any more. I know that the Samsung 850 Pro SSD use MLC Nand, but they are more expensive, for example the Samsung 850 Pro 512GB is $299 https://www.pccasegear.com/products/28750/samsung-850-pro-51…. Generally the MLC SSD costs a fair bit more. But MLC SSD are getting fewer, most of the manufacturers are switching to the lower cost and lower quality TLC nand.

        • @hollykryten: that sux

but my ssds, even tho MLC are "slower" though right?

        • @furythree:

MLC SSD are slightly faster in a way as they have a lower NAND latency. That's why the Samsung 850 Pro has MLC NAND but the 850 EVO has TLC and why the 850 Pro beats the 850 EVO. But your Crucial M500 has 500MB/s read speed which is plenty fast too. Personally if i was you i'd just keep your M500's.

        • Don't read too much into it, TLC got a bad name back in the day when it was first introduced by Samsung because it had lower rated lifespan and lower peformance, but these days the newer 3D TLC being used is early as good as MLC in life and performance, the 3D TLC used in the MX300 was jointly developed by Intel and Crucial, it's good stuff. Also obviously it's not as simple as MLC vs 3D TLC, there are different performance tiers in each.

        • @TRANCE:

Actually I would suggest you read reviews on the 3D TLC drives. They only perform well while they are using the cache. Performance drops - particularly on the Intel/Micron implementation - once the cache is used up, as the drive is writing to the slow 3D TLC.

They'll do for the average user with average use, but during sustained writes some of these are actually slower than a mechanical drive once the cache is exceeded.

@TRANCE: I totally agree with this. TLC is much better quality now days.

I feel like I shouldn't be voting on this due to that 750GB deal lel. Every great SSD deal has been ruined after that :|

    • I think that Crucial MX300 750GB SSD deal that was from Amazon US was the best that we were going to get.

      • +2

never fear, it's not yet Cyber monday in the US. could still return!

  • Decent prices.. 10TB Seagate?

  • also works on amazon.de (Germany)

  • it's 78.25 euro now. Plus 12.63 euro for delivery to Brisbane came to 134.58 aud on credit card.

    • still EUR 93,90

      • think he means base price + shipping

  • Has anyone received theirs? My tracking number hasn't been updated since December 1st…

    • Did you get this? I just found this deal, super sad I missed it but maybe…? :(

      • I ordered but didn't receive. Amazon refunded me postage and sent me a new one. I'm waiting on that one now.

        • Ok darn - sounds like I missed another good deal! Good luck.
