Hello OzBargain fam. Long time lurker, first time poster. Here's something that I've been using for a while now.

Spotify Premium in the Philippines has a different pricing (above is the conversion rate provided by Google as of 30/11/2016). In order to be able to subscribe, there are two/three things that you'll need to do:

  • 1: You have to create a Philippine Spotify account having local residential address via a VPN.
  • 2: For the payment method, create a new Paypal account with a PH address and link your card/bank details there there. (I forgot if you'll need a VPN for this one.)
  • 3: (Optional) If you're getting a family subscription, every account to be linked should be a PH Spotify account as well.

RIP my English. I'm not sure if it's still working, but I've just been charged another 5.47 AUD for my family subscription two days ago. Here are two screenshots for proof:

One catch with this trick is that on the browse tab, you'll see a bunch of Filipino curated Spotify playlists featured up top. Everything else is just like having Premium.

    When trying to go Premium in Spotify, PayPal keeps giving me the message, "To complete your purchase, please add a new credit card or debit card."

    I have added funds to my new PP account, but I have to link a card which I don't really want/need to do since I can transfer money. Any ideas or work arounds?

      I think you don't need to link anything. As long as you have funds, then your paypal account is active.

        Thanks for replying. My PH Paypal account is active with money in it. On the Spotify side, when I want to go premium/upgrade there is only the option for linking a CC card and no option to simply use the PayPal funds.

      Did you invite existing spotify account holders?
      Or did you create new accounts and new emails for all of them?

    Anyone get this to work recently?

    I tried with ph PayPal and Spotify, through a vpn, but I just keep getting an error from paypal saying they can't process my payment. I have also transferred ₱ funds into my ph paypal account, but as others have said it requires a card to be linked to allow subscription.

      Ok, I've since had some luck. For anyone experiencing issues with payment, today I used MS Edge browser. I deleted all browsing history and cookies. I then logged into my PH spotify account with VPN running and I was able to make payment from my PH Paypal account which I had previously transferred funds to. The subscription is now set up to debit from Paypal balance.

        Getting the same issue. Won’t let me pay with paypal, even with pesos loaded on it. Didn’t you have to confirm a credit card or anything? I tried deleting my browser history and cookies. Still the same issue.

    I was no longer able to log in. Got a pop up screen saying Login Failed. You can only use Spotify abroad for 14 days. Anyone had similar problem? How they got around this?

        14 day oversees rule it seems. Happened to wife at same time so would appear to be account wide. Only showing as an Aussie free account now.

        I suspect that they just run an audit of all accounts periodically and if you haven't connected via the home country after an appropriate grace period they go ahead and cancel. I can't confirm, but that's what i'd do.
