Spotify Premium ₱49 (~A $1.3) for 3 Months (New Users), ₱129 (~A $2.6) Per Month after, ₱199 (~A $5.2) for Spotify Family [VPN]

1910

Hello OzBargain fam. Long time lurker, first time poster. Here's something that I've been using for a while now.

Spotify Premium in the Philippines has a different pricing (above is the conversion rate provided by Google as of 30/11/2016). In order to be able to subscribe, there are two/three things that you'll need to do:

  • 1: You have to create a Philippine Spotify account having local residential address via a VPN.
  • 2: For the payment method, create a new Paypal account with a PH address and link your card/bank details there there. (I forgot if you'll need a VPN for this one.)
  • 3: (Optional) If you're getting a family subscription, every account to be linked should be a PH Spotify account as well.

RIP my English. I'm not sure if it's still working, but I've just been charged another 5.47 AUD for my family subscription two days ago. Here are two screenshots for proof:
Screenshot #1, Screenshot #2, Screenshot #3

One catch with this trick is that on the browse tab, you'll see a bunch of Filipino curated Spotify playlists featured up top. Everything else is just like having Premium.

P.S.: Mods, feel free to delete this post if not allowed or modify it to your liking. I hope this post helps and thank you OzBargain for the great deals and bargains.

been using this for more than a year now. there's a free vpn for mac that I use to add an account (im using family ph account). app is called vypr(?) and there's a Ph server.

    • +1

Yeah, me too. I'm happy to pay the $35 yearly spotify premium service than getting music in any illicit means :)

  • +5

Clicked this deal just to see what country those funny ₱ symbols were from!

  • Have people tried this? Does it need to be Philippines paypal? How have people got around the need for a drivers licence or passport number?

    • I wrote that I lived in the Philippines and that my nationality was Aus. Put in my AUS passport no. and it went through.

    • +1

I put 123456789 as the ID number from some example picture I found online.

  • +1

Does anyone have a VPN they can recommend? I have PIA and it doesn't have the Philippines option…

  • +14

Anyone looking for a VPN, heres my vyprvpn details:

    email: [email protected]
    pass: t9tQbsJnVV0D

Make sure you connect to the Philipines server. I had to change my encryption to 128 bit to get it working, but that could be just me.

    • Thanks mate… But are you and anybody logging into this able to view what everyone is doing? Ie, recording credit card numbers when they setup the Phillipines PayPal?

      • +2

I'm definitely not. Not sure about others.

      • +1

if he or anyone else could do that do you think they would let you know?

    • +3

All the Data has been used up now so this will no longer work.

  • Just got it working! Thanks OP

    • +1

      You're welcome!

  • +3

how the heck did you get those exchange rates? 129PHP = $3.50AUD approx.

  • Paypal is asking me for Philippines phone number and ID. Did everyone else get this?

    • I just did fake license and fake phone number. Seemed to work. Hopefully no troubles down the track

      • Be very careful, I did try before with US paypal and having so many problem and finally gave up not worth the effort.

        • Can't I just login and shut the account if I have problems?

  • Can you cancel your current AU account then link it to a premium PH account? Or do you have to do create a new account?

    • I had to create a new account because I couldn't change the country in my profile.

      • I haven't tried it either but on their support page they mentioned you can change to a country where you currently are. So you'd need a VPN I guess.

        • Good tip. I'll take note of that. Thanks!

  • Can I setup PH PayPal without credit card.
And just transfer money there from another PayPal?

    • Yes you can, that is what I did and it worked.

      • I am asked to link a card first before I can make a payment. How do I get around this? I have some balance in my PH Paypal account.

        • +1

Maybe link your card then unlink it after?

  • Thanks a bunch OP! Got it working.
Currently on the 3 month subscription for 1.48 but I am keen to do family if anyone here wants to do it.

By the way, I used my official details on paypal. Used a hostel address. Seems I will be a backpacker working in the phillapines now…

  • I got it working and paid for a full year at 1600pesos for a family account - $45 (give take)

    woohoo :)

    • How did you do this? I didn't see a full year option.

    • +1

I think you may have paid for the full year for a premium account rather than a family account.

      • ^^ This! I'm glad my PayPal transaction got rejected first time and I realised it was just premium.. Not premium for family.

  • Spotify India ditto
Bunch of top Hindi and Tamil hits but the rest is just premium
    Something like $4

    Spotify Taiwan $6.32

  • For anyone still struggling with Philippines proxy, the following details work:

    comeph.opengw.net
    116.93.120.240

    Steps to setup here:
    http://www.vpngate.net/en/howto_l2tp.aspx

  • Do I have to create a new account or can I make my existing account onto a Philippines one?

    • I created a new account but as zerocritical pointed out in a comment above: "their support page they mentioned you can change to a country where you currently are. So you'd need a VPN I guess.". So try it out first. Else, just make a new one Mr. 50.

Thanks worked in the end after a couple of false starts on the paypal front getting the merchant approved. For those needing a PH VPN, vyper VPN mentioned by another user above gives a free account with 500mb if you sign up via their windows App.

    • Yep, any app. I signed up with a Mac app and the whole process used around 120mb. That included setting up 5 Spotify accounts and a Paypal account

    • Glad to know that it worked for you! Enjoy!

  • How'd you get around the mobile phone number when registering for the paypal account? It's locked to put in a +63 number for Phillippines - I presume they'd forward confirmation sms for two-factor authentication to this number as well, so I'd have to be able to see these

    • I just put in some random numbers and there was no authentication needed.

  • Cheers OP….it took some time creating six new emails for the family plan but worth the hassle to save over $11p/mth.

  • How do I add a credit card to PH paypal account? I seem to not be able to change the billing address from a PH address.

    • I kept the PH address as billing address. No dramas.

  • I'm having this trouble too- couldn't add a credit card to my PH paypal

    IF anybody is still trying

I used EXPRESSVPN connected to Philippines via Singapore server.
I set up my PayPal account and used fake ID numbers, phone number and fake Philippines address generated on https://getfakedata.com/address/en_PH?limit=10
I simply added the CC I normally use in Australia.
I also set up a new GMAIL account with Philippines as country, but used Australian phone number to verify account.
Finally, set up Spotify and succeeded!

    Hope this helps :)

    • could I borrow your vpn account I can't find a free one for philippines

      • EXPRESSVPN has a 30-day money back guarantee, so you can sign up for that and simply ask for a refund.

But they will save you so much money in the long run!

  • Cool I will give it a go. Just spotted this

  • Thanks Got charged instantly.

  • My VPN provider (getflix) doesn't have a Filipino VPN available… anyone have ay solutions to get around this?

  • Do you need to link the AU credit card to the PH Paypal account? Or can you use an AU paypal account to transfer money into the PH account which then pays Spotify?

  • Why do we have to create a paypal account, can't we just create a spotify account using a vpn then pay by credit card outside paypal?

  • Hm why does this say expired? Actually I have a feeling it's to do with the automated expiry after X days..

  • Just tried to do this whole process fairly extensively, and included making 2x PH Paypal accounts.

PayPal kept requesting a verification of identification for this "fake" identity. Needless to say, I am unable to provide anything to prove my fabricated character actually exists.

In addition, I've added one of my legit cards (28 Degrees) to one of the newly created accounts, and you can't link a card to more than one account. This means my card is now "locked" to that.. well, guess it's time to ditch 28 Degrees and go for Bankwest Zero Mastercard (which I had kinda always intended to do anyway!)

I've decided that I'll probably go with Spotify Malaysia. Not much more expensive, but a hell of a lot easier for me to set up due to relatives/family ties to the country.

  • anyone tried this with australian credit card instead of paypal??

    • I did. Didn't work.

      • thanks a lot, save my effort :)

  • I don't think this is working anymore. Trying to use my AU credit card linked to my PH PayPal account, I get the following message:

It looks like you're using a card issued in Australia.
Your Spotify account must match the country of your payment method. Change account to Australia or use another card.

No option to use a bank account.

    • I dont think it ever worked with using a card outside of Philippines.

What you need to do is make Paypal to paypal credit transfers.
      E.g.
Transer credit from your Australian Paypal account, to your Philippines Paypal account ;)

      • It used to work and for auto renewal it still works for me. I've my 28 degree linked to my PH PayPal account and it works like charm.

      • Huh, that worked. Now I feel silly. Thanks!

        • Hi,
So were you able to link your AU credit card details to your PH paypal? Or did you do the transfer from AU paypal to PH paypal?
          Cheers

        • @Shibuya: I did the transfer. Worked like a charm!

        • @frugaljerk:
Thanks fj, i managed to add my 28degrees card to my ph paypal account. I have it all setup now.

          Cheers

      • Doesn't seem to work. When I select PayPal it informs me that I have to add a credit card to my account and I only have the one that's already attached to my main PP. I transferred enough to cover a 3 month subscription but it won't let me use PayPal balance as a payment method. What a letdown. :(

  • You think you could still stream free with Optus with a Phillipines account?

    • Does this work? No reason why not, it's Optus data connection, to Spotify Australia, just paying for a PH account.

      • Yep. Works.

  • I work with an offshore team in Manila. I just asked one of the guys to login to my account and change the country to Philippines :)

  • Where do you create a ph email account?

Can someone message me detailed steps on how to setup this deal.

    Thanks.

  • Anyone got this working and don't mind add me to their family sharing account? I'll pay you via PayPal. PM me!

  • I'd also like to be added to a family account if possible. Please PM me and we can work it out. Thanks.

    • +1

Organising with account holder zerocritical, 3 spots left. PM them for details.

  • Does anybody know if its possible to get automatic payments setup between your AUD PayPal account and your PHILIPPINES PayPal account monthly? At the moment you seem to have to send the money between accounts manually prior to your anniversary payment date.

  • How much is a yearly premium subscription? And can you pay the whole amount in one go?

  • Looks like they have dropped the 3 month trial for new users. It's 30 days now.

  • +2

    Still working. Cheers OP.

    • Any tips for setting up? What vpn? How did you get money onto PayPal account etc?

      • +2

        vyprvpn 1GB free VPN trial.

Created account using addresses from the generator in this thread.

Sent money from my AU PayPal to my PH Paypal.

Added a Woolworth prepaid CC to the PH PayPal (need one not attached to any other PayPal account).

        • +1

Thanks heaps for the details.. all signed up.

  • Still working, also the 3 months is back, but it appears to have raised in price to ₱129. It used to be ₱49 for first 3 months?

Took a while for paypal to actually work to upgrade on spotify, kept saying that "Cant do that right now". Just kept trying, eventually it went through.

  • I am keen to join a family plan if anyone is setting up.

happy to pay 12 months in advance.

  • Hi would love to join a family plan for my daughter and I. Can transfer via EFT.. can pay in 6 months or 12 months up front. PM me for details. Thx

  • Thanks managed to get it to work

  • Tried this when it was first posted but couldn't get it to work. Might try it again soon, otherwise I might "settle" for Spotify Malaysia which is a little dearer but should be easier to get working..

  • I just setup the Spotify family Philippines account last night. Thanks for the tip!
If anyone wants to join my family pm me :)

  • Im interested in joining a plan as well. Please PM me

  • Damn it! Spotify have recently implemented a '14 day abroad' rule, where they pickup your IP address that you're not in the country you're subscribing from. From then, you have 14 days to use it abroad, before it gets locked, until u log on in your home country again.

    • No one else here has mentioned this yet. Us that fur certain?

      • I have been using the filipino spotify service since this deal was first posted about 5-6 months ago. Went through all the pinoy VPN, made pinoy PayPal etc.

I only got login issues today, would upload a screenshot if I could.

        • Crap out of luck if your on holidays any more than a fortnight……

    • According to this (https://support.spotify.com/hk-en/account_payment_help/accou…) that's only if you're not Premium. Also this has been around for a few years now.

      • Thanks for clarifying that!!!

OK I retract everything. What happened was my card expired, and looks like while my payments expired, I was downgraded to a non-premium account. Looks like the 2 week period lapsed and that's why I got that message!

Will update my pinoy PayPal account and see what happens!

  • used chrome plugin proxy to set to PH
    created new paypal
    all was going good until….
attempted a money request to my real PayPal email, which appears to have triggered a fraud / problem with the account and now requires validation
    :(
    sigh
