  • FYI these fares seem to only come via STA travel

  • Cheap airfares seem to start around the 22nd of January, good for those wanting to use Australia Day oversesas.
    e.g. 24 JAN - 16 FEB SYD-AMS $945.14 (2 seats left)

  • Amazing prices, and the dates above are only examples so there are plenty of othera. It's a shame the prices aren't the same when the first journey is from Dublin as we're looking for flights for our parents.

  • good price, just wish i had someone to go with

Sometimes the best adventures are the ones you start alone.

3 of my last overseas trips have been solo and I've ended up chatting to different people and had company for a meal, a beer or even a couple of days in the case of some scuba divers. They were all from very different backgrounds and made for a nice change of pace to having to make sure your other travel companion is having fun and wants to do the same things you do too.

      • Yes you are quite right and I keep trying to convince myself to just book and go on a trip somewhere. But it will end up costing a lot more as most hotels are based on twin share, and having a companion provides some security. I enjoy talking to locals but not so good at building friendships quickly and tend to keep to myself. I would still like to have someone to talk to at the end of the day and have a meal etc. I'd probably have a great time, it is just those ifs and buts in the back of my mind which put me off a bit.

        • Would you consider a backpackers (either a very small room - say 4 people) or a private room and just make a habit of eating breakfast in the communal area or just a beer in the afternoon.

If you're out exploring all day, it's just somewhere to leave your stuff, shower and sleep. If you are a pool-side hotel lover, this I can appreciate is probably less than appealing - my partner would never agree to this, but I happily do it when I travel alone.

    • Europe is the best place to travel on your own, especially during their summer. Hostels are full of people just like you travelling alone (or with one of two friends). You'll find friends in every city I guarantee, use HostelWorld to find which hostels have the best atmosphere, and hold nightly events like pub crawls!

Damn I wish I can go to Amsterdam again, a better trip than vegas by far.

    • In what way Amsterdam is better than Vegas? Can you please elaborate?

      • In pretty much every way!

      • +3

History, canals, food etc etc. Vegas is a weird manufactured playground. Oh sure, it's fun to go once but it's a very odd place.

Amsterdam has got to be one of my favourite cities - absolutely would recommend if you haven't been.

        • Went 3 times last year, its a different place thats for sure. Red light district, im coming home

    • It's nice to start tripping in Amsterdam…. just keep it under control, mate :)

Great find. For those interested there is also sub $1000 fares via etihad to Athens as well for these days via IWTF. Just also some side info, according to STA if you book an Etihad fare via STA you are then NOT able to use Etihad Guest miles for an upgrade.
