I've been looking for a laptop for my school going niece. For a touch-screen laptop with core i5 processor, price below 800 is definitely a bargain.

  • The i7 variant for this costs $998 which comes with 8GB of memory.

    • 8GB DDR3 and a little bit faster dual core CPU.. NOT WORTH IT AT ALL! maybe if the SSD was double the size then yes..! :)

      • +1

Depends, RAM/CPU isn't upgradeable at all - you're stuck with what you've got. And when it's 10% extra speed and 33% more cache, it's a fairly decent bump up in specs on the CPU if you ever do video encoding. 8GB RAM is really useful for some, not for others, so really comes down to usage. Granted, most people would just be better off saving the $250 to put towards the next laptop in 2-3 years

The SSD is a standard m.2 2280 drive though and you can pick up a 500GB drive for $200 in an ebay sale. So I'm rarely fussed about what kind of drive comes with these laptops, very cheap to upgrade.

  • i got this deal.. laptop looks really good and the brightness on the IPS screen is very high.,.. i have no idea why some reviews say its LOW or dull.. maxed out its as bright as any oled mobile phone can get too. same as all the other laptops in the office

one of the best batter lifts too

  • Or, the i5, 8GB, 256SSD model is $1,099 at Bing Lee: https://www.binglee.com.au/acer-nx-g7wsa-002-aspire-r5-471t-…

  • Windows 10 or Windows 8 or 7 and only 4GB RAM, is that really enough? Especially when you don't optimize the operating system and there are 50 / 60 + processes running in the background which i believe has already used 2GB RAM. And once you open a couple tabs of Google Chrome, there won't much left.

    • I develop on a win10 vm with 4gb of ram, greanted I don't use chrome, but I run two or three copies of visual studio and edge with 20+ tabs - no issues whatsoever! =)

For the average user, 4gb is enough; not luxurious, but enough.

  • Can android be added as well?

  • Is this better than the Lenovo E460?

    • If touch-screen is not in your requirement list, then Lenovo is way better - configuration-wise.
