      I know right.
And like $19 is fair price for the motherboard, screen, keyboard, touchpad and battery.
      Such a bed wetter.

Bad post. Now everyone know op is a bed wetter.

      • ON NO, THAT WAS YOU!
        .

Gumtree has become a complete shit-show.

I can't say that it is across the board, but IME it's definitely dropped off in the last few years.

    • It's always been a shithole, just more people use it now.

      • It was once a public ammenity. Then there was an excuse.

Now that eBay's organised crimegang owners 0wn it, and the excuse is: 'Well, gumtree is not eBay, so it can stay a shit-hole'

Of course reasoning just doesn't hold water, but it doesn't matter cos we'll never be able to influence the retail space we rely on, ever again. Bwahahahaahhaaaaahhaaha!

He even told you how much it was worth, what are you, some kind of idiot?

  • +15

And the correct response is "yeah, OK, a bit lower than i wanted. Met me at <remote location> at <inconvenient time>. Cheers.

I've started putting in sentence in my ads saying " if you low ball with a ridiculous offer then I'll deliberately waste your time and energy". I was selling a brand new camera for a third of retail and still getting stupidly low offers.

    • What kind of camera and how much.

I'll give you $50 bucks sight and model unseen as long as you don't need to load the flash with gunpowder

      • Don't sell it to this guy he's a bed wetter.

      • sony 20mp.

Put it on eBay for double the price BIN and it sold in 2 hours

If you don't provide your address, told him you accept the offer and meet him somewhere and never turn up.

  • +2

yeah got very annoying offers as well basically for computers related stuffs, they will attract indian and their low ball families

    • Do people actually accept these offers though? Surely not? Just got another offer for $300 as well haha

      • +3

yeah for example a mobile phone listed $400 they offer $200 —- do they really think no one else before them offer that much? seriously? also becareful lately alot of buyers initially agree at $x but when they meet you inspect etc then they say ok here is $x-$20 or sorry i forgot to bring extra $20. Annoying

        • +2

Seems you had a lot of bad experience with Indians!…

        • @apple2016: who doesnt? i think gumtree full of them

    • +3

Your lucky. Was selling some old crockery when some cowboys turned up, threw all my plates in the air, shot them and rode off

  • People will always aim to swindle those that are both wanting a quick sale and inexperienced in what they're selling.

    • One persons swindle is another person's bargain hunt

  • You should accept his offer, tell him to meet you at a far place and don't show up after making him wait for a long time. lol…

  • Look, Bedwetter, I'll give you $307 for it, but only because I'm going you a favour for Christmas and not at all shady.

  • +11

The good thing about Gumtree (as a buyer) is if you can string together a complete sentence with correct spelling and capitalization, you can usually get a good deal. You're competing with barely functional potatoes most of the time.

    • Hahahah… especially when the other vendors begin their ads with shit like 'EOIs only'

They might as well begin with

"Offers being considered by all those who come by three times in as many days to suck my #$%k and" (list deleted)

      • Sorry if im stupid, but what is EOI?

  • Not sure why he needed to bring your incontinence into it. Perhaps shaming you for a better price?

    • +9

I might try this out at say jbhifi see if the tactics work.

      • I'd feel a little invaded that he is including you and your laptop in his bedtime fantasies.

I listed a couple of mobile phones on Gumtree and got the most stupid offers from people. What surprised me was how many would try and suggest their offer was great because it was "CASH !!!!" - like how else were they going to pay?

Plus you also get the morons who try to say their dumb low-ball price should also include delivery to their far-off location.

Gumtree is full of wanna-be swindlers.

I thought it was the worst place to sell until I tried listing stuff on Facebook groups. They are far worse, full of ferals and morons.

what? you dont accept handwritten signed IOU note? ludicrous.

how about a trade for a broken $1000 lawnmower?

      still no deal?

unbelievable….some people are just a pain to deal with.

      /sarcasm

    • yes. CASH and PICKUP ASAP! thats how they want to get your stuffs for their ridiculous offer prices.
      i reply:

no worries i dont need pickup or cash asap i have 5 Harley Davidsons at garage
no worries i accept credit card you can swipe on your own a*****h**le

Its called sale by negotiation. I've had no end of items where buyers have offered half the asking price, just go back with an offer closer to your asking price and don't get offended by it. Alternatively use the Minimum offer option when listing (its free).

    • +1

Yeah surely having low offers is part of the fun of classifieds, put a price out there and see what comes back. I reckon nowadays sellers are adjusting the price to start with anyway.

    • I dunno man… I'd be pretty offended if someone called me a bed wetter, even if its true or not.

      • It wouldn't be so bad if you were selling a bed.

  • Tell him, he is dreamin' (On all points)

    • Bed wetter dreamin'?

  • Wow! Chris on Gumtree seems on the mark!
"FFS" you should stop being a halfwit and take his offer. It's MORE than fair… Perhaps even invite him for Christmas dinner as compensation for you making him so angry.

He seems like the kinda guy you'd want to hang out with too.

I can picture HANK from Me, Myself and Irene, when he read your "HAHAHA" comment, the music starts playing and he transitions!

Tell him you accept then send him the address to a Outlaw Motorcycle club and see who wets their pants.

  • +3

    Beaver
How about you post his mobile number and we can bombard him with messages of Alienware 13 laptops we all have for sale.

    • +1

Haha was through Gumtree messaging so don't have his number unfortunately.

    • His phone provider would crash.

you just need to enjoy this type of interaction. when you are having a sh!t day this type of banter really helps.
just remember that most of the key board warriors on gumtree have a slightly different spin on reality.
i always try and entertain them when negotiating. remember they are a special breed.
i have had messages of death threats, i am going to stab you in the eye, i am going to shoot you and so on, most of them are tried and proven killers on what ever game they play on the internet.

  • This is why so many people just donate stuff rather than gumtree it!

I make and sell headpieces, prices list, and have people asking for the 'best price' yeah cause that price I listed I randomly made up. Or they ask if they can buy 2 for the price of 1. Ebay is the way to go.

    • Yeah ended up selling for $950 + postage on eBay.

  • Agreed, the last time i tried to sell stuff, all i got were insane low ballers or people trolling me by sending abusive/sarcastic messages.

Not just gumtree, but local facebook buy/sell groups too.

Negotiating is perfectly fine, but theres a point where it becomes insulting.

The best experience i had in my life was someone offering to buy a camera for cheap, like below $100, and he met me at some shopping center and made me stand there for an hour while he VERY SLOWLY examined the camera…for ONE HOUR…just standing there looking it over and over. He just would not hurry up no matter what I said.

Does anyone have any suggestions on a place where you can post stuff for sale that doesnt have timewasters?

    • Did he bring things to get test shots too? XD

  • Yes there are a lot of DH's on Gumtree trying to get all of their money back on items they bought on sale,
after being used for a few years,
    Then listing 'as new'
Not surprising with the lowballing and the whinging here,
Two sides of the same coin
But CASH is KING, not your second-hand used junk that probably should just go in the bin if you don't want it anymore

  • The amount of illiterate people on Gumtree. The 1 in 10 person who's pleasant makes it worth it though.

  • Thanks for the laughs everyone lolz
