It's a good pice. but my LG4 just gone dead from bootloop. I afraid to buy LG again.

Can we have deal on Iphone 7 or Samsung S7?

    • +23

Ditto. I've been burnt also. I'd advise any prospective buyers to google 'LG BOOT LOOP' before considering an LG handset.

This is not just a G4 issue. Also G3 and Nexus, and often occurs around the 6-12 month mark. How convenient.

That said, for those who do take the LG plunge, definitely get a local warranty.

      • +9

I got the LG3 and LG4 one international one local stock. Both got the bootloop death within the warranty period. Both caused a pain in the … to fix because of the postage and the wait.

LG does not have a service centre in Victoria. Life is Goodbye now from me. I am back with Samsung.

      • Mine is at the 8 month mark and you're making me nervous..love my G4..so far.

        • +1

If I remember correctly, only those G4s made prior to Oct 2015 were affected.

I had used the LG G4 with the Urbane Watch and I love the pair. I now use the Samsung S7 Edge and the Gear S3. Happy with the phone, not so happy with the number of (free) apps for the watch and the watch apps themselves are not as good as that are available on Google Play Store. For example, Google Map will not appear on the watch; and the Here Map for the watch is sort of independent ..

        • @hluu0111:
Cheers..fingers crossed mine was in the batch made after that date.

    • +20

I'm not buying LG mobiles again… It would have been OK if LG had of handled it better. E.g. We'll replace all handsets with the bootloop issue regardless of warranty. However they didn't and because it happened at 13 months, had to suck it (yeah it was a grey import - but mobile phones don't care what country they are in! Ash is correct with the local warranty comment. Still won't be buying anymore though).

      • +3

LG had it their way.How can they release 3 generations of hansets with same problem.

    • +2

I have had issues with Sony, LG, HTC and Samsung. There is no brand which is 100% free from issues. The G5 was redesigned from the ground up.

My wife has one. So far, great phone. But it needs a screen protector when used with the official case. Somehow the official LG folio case causes scratches on the screen.

      • +3

Yes but we're talking about almost all LG G4 phones boot looping eventually, not a 99% hit rate on quality control.

        • +1

It does kinda seem that way with at least the G4 and V10.

My burn was with the G3 - bought one for myself, recommended to 2 friends - none of our GPS' ever worked, the display was unacceptably dim, and still as others have mentioned, all 3 looped within 12 months.

Today's pro tip - a bit of prolonged hairdryer heat was enough for me to get all 3 phones booted and the data off before they began looping again. Must be a battery contact.

        • -1

Definitely, the G4 was a disaster. Almost as big as the Note 7. And try to find a Sony Z1 through to Z3+ which did not have camera crashes. Not to mention major battery problems after updating to Android 5.x. Just saying that I am not sure that avoiding LG completely will help. If anything, go for the brands which have recently been burned, as they are trying to redeem themselves :)

        • @jackary:

I've read the issue is dodgy solder on the motherboards, but I didn't find a confirmed source. All I know is the clock is ticking on my current G4.

        • @Make it so:

Dude these problems have happened on the G4, V10 and there's at least a cracking camera glass issue with the V20. And they've been very bad at helping consumers. If you keep buying as they continue to burn people there is no reason for them to fix their phones whatsoever. Avoid like the plague till they clean up their act.

    • +3

Got 2 LG G4 phones for the family and both died with bootloop within 12months. One was from Hong Kong and the LG service centre in Australia quoted me $250 repair fee to fix their shitty phone.

      • +1

Obviously don't expect australian warranty with a grey stock.

        • They should replace all their dodgy LG G4 phones for free regardless of warranty. Basically all 1st gen G4 phones have this problem.

    • +2

My LG G4 just got the 'Bootloop' issue after 13 months, it was international stock.
LG were a nightmare to deal with, especially considering they admitted there is a design flaw.
As I have to wait 4-6 weeks to get it fixed, I had to buy a new phone. I went with the Samsung Galaxy C7 and love it.

    • +1

I have had 2 LG G4s die not with boot loop but with WIFI and Bluetooth module dying. Bought from JB Hifi who replaced it same day the first time but messed up the warranty the second time so badly that after demanding I have an ETA on a phone repair they messed around with my contract without my consent causing a nightmare. Bottom line I was without a phone for about 6 weeks and I had to fight not to end up without a much worse contract. (Because they hadn't gotten my signature they offered me a better one to make it go away).

My hellish experience is outlined here:
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/262073
      and here:
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/257006

Never a phone from JB HiFI and never an LG again. I'd have been better off sticky with a crappy <$100 phone than dealing with the nightmare.

      • Just read your stories, did the next bills end up as Telstra said they would or did some extra charges sneak in?

        • No charges sneaked in. Somehow I have 11GB/month, not 7. And it's been $50/month for the last few. I still check every time I get a bill.

    • Mmm. On a positive note. I have had my G3 for 2+ years and never had issue. Great phone.

  • Any deal on dual sim phone like Oppo R9?Does anyone know if it supports 3G on one sim and 4G on other?

  • this phone makes your ear itchy

    • +1

And burns a hole in your pocket too I suppose.

  • -4

All we really need is Nexus 6p 128gig under $600 like what kogan did a couple months back. That's the only deal that really matters

    • -6

      Cool story bro.

      • -5

lol we got voted down! Its gotta be either apple or sammy fa ̶g̶ nbois :P

        • -1

          we got voted down

I don't think you understand what "Cool story bro" means.

        • @Nillionaire:
          Cool story bro

        • @Nillionairge: fair enough, I'll wear it. Though the silver lining is that it got down voted, and every double neg becomes a positive for my very true original statement :)

        • @ninjataki: I'm not saying anything regarding your original comment or the downvotes. Just pointing out that you misunderstood T_double_U's response as being supportive of your comment when it was sarcastic.

Nothing personal against either of you.

        • +1

@Nillionaire: yeah I'm in agreement, though just trying to draw a positive out of it all. Guess I learned another saying.

    • Yeah I just love a 400nit AMOLED under the harsh Australian sun… smh

  • +2

    Any deal for the v20

    • This.

    • What makes the V20 stand out? Sure seems to cost a lot.

      • -1

        The cameras mostly.

      • Camera, sound quality, second screen and replaceable battery, the latest Android OS.

      • Dual SIM, MicroSD (with dual SIM at the same time), removable battery, dual cameras, second screen and other wicked specs.

    • RRP dropped to 999aud now. Bigger discount might come in the next couple of months

  • Hi TA, Any chance of getting a deal on the Sony Xperia X for $500?

    • +1

Available in NZ for this price here if you have someone who can bring it or send it across for you

      • Damn, that's a good price. I would want local warranty though.

        • I'm not sure about Sony specifically, but some brands have an Australasian warranty arrangement. I've had my DeLonghi coffee machine repaired twice here under warranty even though it was bought in NZ. It might be worth investigating

  • +2

Great that it comes with 2yr local warranty. Pretty damn sure you will need it if getting one.

  • Could you get a deal on the Moto Z Play?

  • +4

Would love to see a deal from Mobileciti on the Sony Experia XZ.

    • This.

    • ditto

    • This

  • Thanks TA for assisting in working out this deal.

  • A deal on the S7?

  • i have a 2 year old g3 that's still going strong, just throwing it out there (g4 did seem more affected bootloop wise imo)

  • +2

Just had my LG restarting on me for the 10th times since this morning.
    Never LG again

    • When did ypu buy it?

      • -1

2 years ago, and it was restarting since week one but at the time it was not that infamous and not that frequent.
It was only after the first year that it started to be really annoying especially when I am doing something seriously important or when I am recording a beautiful memory and boom, so basically now I am just waiting for it to go to the boot loop now.
This was second LG, both crap.

    • Better backup your everything now!

      • -1

Yes, Thank you. I know, I store everything on the SD card but will keep an eye on the phone storage very soon.

  • Anyone thats buying Purchase it with Amex Card for Screen Repair Protection Cover

  • +1

LG 5 prices gone faster than their reputation. Eventhough I hate Apple their service levels are not matched by any one yet

  • +1

Would jump on this, but my experince with my G4 puts me off too.
Any chance of doing this for the HTC10?

  • Really wanted to love my G4 since it was cheap but there are so many things that bug the shit out of me about it I couldn't buy LG again :/ I had no hardware issues, there is just some really really dumb software on it.

    • I could (and do) live with it. If you have specific issues let me know and I'll see if it's something I'm working around.

The hardware I have no workaround for.

      • +1

Just dumb design stuff, e.g. If I have text messages open and happen to tilt/rotate the screen it scrolls to the top of the messages when I rotate it back so I have to scroll back though 1 years worth of texts. When I lower the volume I cant pull the options menu down because the volume slider is right at the top, I love accidentally putting volume to 100%…Um, trying to take a screenshot, the button combination never works, it always locks the screen or turns the volume down, its very awkward trying to press both. Maybe a bit nit picky but get frustrating, these are the only things that come to mind now.

        • I switched SMS/MMS app to Chomp SMS. It's not perfect either but is much better. I don't know what the Android 6 message app they bundled is like but the original one let you swipe to delete an entire conversation - all messages to a person - and if you don't notice the undo in time it's gone forever. Likewise with photos, so I use various gallery apps.

I use the volume buttons when I can and only mute/vibrate etc for sound. Otherwise I hit the gear item and manually fiddle with each volume.

Screenshots work if you use a single finger to press both power and volume down button.

Yes that's a lot of workarounds already. Yes button location is idiotic. I hate that I can't reach power and volume buttons when it's in a phone cradle. Absolutely no good reason for that.

        • @syousef:

Thanks for replying, i'll take a look. No product is perfect, I guess I have a short fuse with my phone since I use it a fair bit :)

        • @saard:

I'm the same. The thing I like about the G4 is the camera. Everything else is just okay.

    • +1

Just curious, what things don't you like about it?
I think mines great and the only thing I miss from my s7 when going between the two is the fingerprint sensor

  • +2

I also had a G4 (kogan/ebay, but had no issues) and now have an Australian supplied G5 H850K (for the Australian Warranty as an insurance policy against bootloop etc).
The camera and especially the twin camera setup is a great thing to have when travelling.
Just got back from Hawaii with one and it worked very well on TMobile 4G network (prepaid 10GB for around USD 25) as well as getting nice pictures with the wide lens, particularly where other cameras could not capture the landscape images.

  • Had a G4 for a few months, heat and power management made me give up what was actually a pretty nice phone. Maybe the G5 is better but I've moved on!

  • LG 5 prices gone faster than their reputation. Eventhough I hate Apple their service levels are not matched by any one yet

    • It's cheap for a reason

  • +3

This is the best phone I have used so far and I have had many.

Good screen, very good cameras, snappy performance even for my demanding use (eBay backend, not gaming) and very comfortable in hand with a TPU case. And having a spare battery I won't be afraid running out of juice. Battery lasts a whole day for me anyway.

And that I can have a SD card in it is just luxury these days.

I bought mine about $499 from QD, only had a battery drain issue which turned out to be a flashlight APP from Google Play Store.

I'm not afraid of bootloop issue, will get my trusty 6P from the shelf if that happens.

    Don't think twice ;)

    • What store is QD?

      • Quality Deals, QD_AU on eBay. Taiwanese with OS stock but they have some presence in Sydney but havent checked them out yet.

I guess if the phone has issues, their Sydney office takes it back and 2-4 month waiting game starts :P

IMO if Mobileciti price is about $100 more compared with OS stock id go with Mobileciti in a heartbeat.

      • +2

I have bought LG G4 last year from QD eBay which has issues of wifi and just under 12 months was repaired by them just have to pay onevway shipping to Sydney office.so seller is good and trustable.

  • I really want to buy this but it seems only European H850 can have its bootloader unlocked. I really want a G5 with Cyanogenmod cause I hate LG skins.

  • +1

Grey market LG G4 with bootloop issue = nightmare, due to the loss of data, but mostly due to the hassle of the month+ turnarond times.
G5 is not a G4 (i.e. there is not such a massive number of bootloop reports pointing to hardware defect like there was with the G4), and with an Aus supplied G5 you can walk into the Silverwater repair centre any time in the 2 year warranty period and get it fixed in a day even if it did have a problem.

  • Alot of talk about the G4 here and not the phone on offer. Surely the G5 wont have the same fate as its predecessor??
If it is known that this phone doesn't suffer the same problem then this is a bargain with the 2 month warranty.

    • +1

The G4 had the same fate as its predecessor (G3).

    • +1

That's what G3 owners thought when they purchased the G4, and look how that turned out.

Just look back at their company history: Goldstar -> Lucky Goldstar -> LG

Same shit (crap TV's, phones, etc.) dressed up nicer.

    • Just google "lg g5 boot loop" without the quotes. Yes it is happening. Crazy to buy this phone unless you have money to burn and it's not your only flagship device.

  • +2

Fantastic phone. Bought it 6 months ago international stock for same price.

Everything about it was all I ever needed (speed, size, price, wide angle camera is so so handy) in a phone except the battery life could have been 15 20 percent bigger for my usage patterns. Bought a spare battery tho.

Unfortunately it died on me suddenly and wouldn't turn on anymore last week.
Googled it…seems to be a thing with the phone suddenly dying related to its motherboard. Maybe first batch maybe not…

Would raise warranty with the eBay seller but I replaced the screen myself already so LG will prob claim I broke it…oh well.

  • +2

Hands down the best phone I have owned.

  • Great phone despite GPS issue. Love the camera.

  • +1

Ive had nothing but good experiences with LG. I've gone from 4X HD > G Pro > G2 > G3.

My G3 in particular has been brilliant and is going strong 2+ years later. Nicely designed and well priced, the camera, screen and performance have been excellent for a 2014 phone, and I personally think LG's Android overlay is one of the best and lightest, and yes I've used the other brands flagships.

With unlocked bootloader, I now run a custom ROM and feel no urge to upgrade (from someone who was a serial upgrader).

I agree the bootloop issue on some batches of their phones is a big problem and has been handled poorly. I would have skipped the G4 had I needed a new phone.

We have four G3's in our home and all are problem free.

I find it a little harsh to rubbish LG's entire brand and product lineup (especially when Samsung is cited as the alternative). Every manufacturer has had problematic designs over the last few years. And a lot of Android users have no idea how to manage their phone and keep them clean of software problems (which they blame on hardware).

LG make components for some of the most premium products out there (in particular their displays are in everything from iMacs to Dell Ultrasharp series).

LG V20 will be my next phone for sure…

    • +2

Get back to me when you've been burned by 2 out of 3 phones and are expecting the 3rd to die and lets see how enthusiastic you are about not rubbishing the brand then.

    • u love LG

      • Haha, probably sounds like it but no, I don't. I'm pretty impartial to tech brands -whoever make high-spec devices and sell them at a good price is what will win me over.

I've had plenty of devices from other brands that I've had to warranty (sadly, every Apple device I've ever owned to be honest).

  • My sister has 2 LGs in the past 1.5 years. Her LG G3 died shortly after the warranty period, and she got a nexus 5x. It died in 6 months and she just sent it back for warranty. So the failure rate seems really high.

  • I have TWO of the LG G3s for home/business.

I got the first one at release and it has been rock solid since. The second one died after 1 day, was RMA'd, and has been fine since.

All in all however I have been extremely pleased with the phone. I would also note you get similar issues with other brands including Apple with bendgate, overheating, etc.
