FREE Calls from Telstra Branded Payphones 24-28 Dec to Help Australians Connect This Christmas

I am an employee, and we just received this message.

Free calls to help Australians connect this Christmas.

Christmas is all about connecting with friends and family.

While most of us are lucky enough to do this in person or have access to technology that helps bring us together, we know there are others who may find themselves separated from loved ones without a way to get in touch. From Christmas Eve until 28 December, we’re opening our payphone network to offer free local, national and mobile calls for everyone from capital cities to remote areas such as the Gibson Desert and Thursday Island.

With people reaching out to friends and family over Christmas, we see a spike in payphone calls each December.
So, by opening up our payphone network, we hope all Australians will be able to reach out to loved ones this holiday season.

Probably going to be exploited by new arrivals who don't celebrate Christmas in their culture anyway (let the triggering begin).

Payphones are still the only option away from home for those who have managed to resist being a mobile phone user. I caved in in 2013, but prior to that, there was one time I had some work done on my car and was using public transport for the day. Luckily I didn't have to walk excessively far (only half a km) to the nearest payphone when I wanted to check if I could pick up my car.

Thanks for the link. The data is 18 months old but you'd have to be lucky to get more recent data (i.e. happen to be looking when it was updated). I'll keep an eye out for them but I honestly don't remember seeing a payphone for ages.

  • Will this work for phone sex?

Premium numbers aren't included, and you tend to get arrested if you're in a public place with your underwear around your ankles.
