  • How does this compare to non stick Tefal cookware?

    • +1

Properly seasoned, you will want to cook your steaks and stir fries on this.

Keep your non-stick for your sunny side up eggs though.

    • This thing is great! It has been my all-in-one skillet for the last 7 months and I love it!
If you use it properly it will last for years.I use a few drops of oil and a soft cloth to wipe the skillet(top-bottom-and handle)after every use to prevent rust and it still looks like new.It comes pre-seasoned and you can easily cook eggs in it, they will not stick to the bottom.
Having said that, non-stick cookware will always be more non-stick than cast iron, but we all know that non-stick coatings don't last long and probably they are not as healthy.

      • +2

After using a year or two, you will realize the arm you used to toss the skillet are slightly bigger than your other arm.

Totally different tool with very different characteristics. Takes more maintenance than non-stick, but can't be beaten for searing steaks or other large cuts of meat

  • Does anyone know how this compares to a 'standard' $20~ cast iron skillet?

    • Chinese metal v's USA metal. you decide…

  • Got one. Thanks OP :o)

  • I got a generic one that looks identical a few years back from one of the random cookware shops in a DFO for ~$30. Best piece of cookware I've ever purchased.

Plenty of guides on how to look after your cast iron gear online, you really don't need to spend much to get stuff that will outlast your lifetime.
