  • Nice! …. assuming it is as catch free as it sounds. Who is your CC provider?

  • GoMastercard, their "buy now pay later" credit card.

Most of the prices are still a rip even after the $50 but there are some decent ones

    After $50 examples:
    D-link Wireless N router (DIR-615) - $68, decent if there's no MSY/officeworks around you
Western Digital My Book® Essential™ 1000GB Hard Drive - $109, much cheaper than anywhere else

    They do however have this:

    Best Price Guarantee
We will beat any genuine competitor´s advertised price. Terms and conditions apply.

Gonna try it out tomorrow :P

    • Mmmm….will be interested to hear how others go using it, in particular, attempting to use cash or another credit card.

    • No offence but their price guarantee is next to worthless. Don't go expecting them to even allow to use a price match and this coupon as well.

    • Do you think the coupon will work after a price match?

  • +3

    No photocopies accepted? :P

How does this clause work if it's an emailed voucher?

    • +4

Obviously you can print it, but you can't stick it in a photocopier. HN staff are trained to tell the difference.

      • +7

Good to hear they're finally investing some training into them

    • Maybe it's to encourage you to buy a printer from them first ;-) (but yes it makes little sense to be able to print a softcopy but not photocopy it. It would look the same on a laser printer).

  • Does it work? Anyone tried?

  • +1

"It would look the same on a laser printer" maybe they want to sell you a colour printer? lol
of course you can copy in colour too, so how do they tell the difference?

  • +2

Just email it to anyone you want to give it to… ???

"Trained to tell the difference between scanned and printed". LOL cough cough… Look out 007!!!
    Bull!!

  • +3

If you want them to accept it wear a rubber nose/wig and use a cane. They will think you are Gerry Harvey checking on them! ;-)

  • Guessing it should work with this:
    750gb portable $128 - $50 = $78 ?
    http://www.harveynorman.com.au/product/1255509394880/western…

  • Can anyone confirm this voucher works?
With past experience with HN, I doubt it would work.

    • +3

I just called HN @Domain North Ryde and he said he is aware the vouchers went out and it will be fine for the 750gb WD portable drive. Gonna go there now and I'll post my results

  • so just to get this right, you get $50 off if you spend more than $100 or do they give you a voucher for $50 if you spend more than $100?

    • $50 off your $100+ spend (this is assuming it works at all!).

    • You don't get a voucher. You just get $50 off.

  • Is computer games counted i.e PS3 and Xbox 360 any one tried?

    • I'd assume computer games (gaming software) is excluded but console accessories and hardware is included (nintendo products excluded).

Once hippocrit confirms that it's worked at Auburn HN, i'll head down for some Xbox accessories.

  • Awesome, just used the voucher at Moore Park HN.

When I went to use it the manager said I have to have to show him my Go Mastercard to use the voucher.
..didn't have one, so I tried to wing it and said my dad was a member and got emailed the voucher.
He gave me a bit of a "hrmmm" look, but put the code through. I had to give him my name and details though (apparently to make sure that each member only uses the voucher once)

    • Yeah you may need to show your GoMastercard for this coupon. It just depends on the store I guess.

  • also just tried to use it at moore park, also asked for proof of Go mastercard and they refused when I was unable to show it. bugger!

    • I wasn't asked about it…
They took my details though, to make sure I use it only once.

  • +1

just went to Alexandria HN, they refused the coupon because I don't have the card.

Then I went to HN @domain Alexandria, they accept the coupon and I bought 1.5 external hdd WD for $98.

It was on special for $148

  • Does the 750GB portable HDD use a normal 2.5" SATA drive or one of those special drives with the USB only connection?

    Cheers

    • I don't know what's inside it but the only external connector is a micro-USB socket.
Can't see an easy way to dismantle it, but maybe you could try google

      • There are quite a few videos on youtube Re.this….the common consensus is you need to break the enclosure to get the drive out. The Samsung 2.5" drives can't be installed in a laptop as they use a proprietary interface.

        • Yeah thats what i want to know. If the 750GB portable is one of those slimmer units, then it'll most likely use the proprietary interface instead of a standard SATA interface, which means it can't be installed in a laptop in the future.

    • It's a B9B drive if that helps your search
(B7B is SATA, B8B is direct USB, can't find B9B)

      • From googling the drive model, it appears it has the proprietary connection, instead of a standard sata connection.

        Cheers

  • Guys I just went to HN Auburn

    Will work with Xbox stuff
As long as combined computing products is over $100 it is ok
They made no mention of presenting the gomastercard
Discount is off ticketed price at HN. You can probably try Domayne as they don't seem to be as informed

I didn't buy anything as I am broke but was going to get the Seagate 1TB $139 to $89

    • what do you mean by Will work with Xbox stuff
As long as combined computing products is over $100 it is ok

That still means you need to buy computer stuff worth $100 or more. if that is the case you might as well buy your xbox stuff seperately

      • Sorry I meant that Xbox accesories are considered computing products

      • It says excludes: "gaming software and Nintendo products.", so I guess xbox and ps3 hardware (possibly consoles) are included?

  • Is the go mastercard any different than the ordinary master card?

I have one from CBA - will it work?

  • Just say your friend told you about it. Gomastercard is the card HN issues to customers buying interest free items so they're by different providers

    • not a reason to vote -ve!

    • Not a valid reason. Take some time to read the voting guidelines before making another stupid vote.

    • not a valid reason to vote neg, it clearly says (NSW metro only) on the title.

      Vote revoked.

  • You could always just apply for a card and hope you get approved before 31st July (not impossible). There only a once-off $25 "establishment fee" - i.e. no annual fee:

    http://www.gomastercard.com.au/en/Personal/using_your_accoun…

    • +1

Yeah right, apply for a credit card in the hope they give you $50.00.

No offense but thats not recommended, its how they hook you into having a credit card, this deal is clearly for thos who have the card.

      • Oh, I completely agree - having more credit cards isn't necessarily a good thing. But your argument is kinda circular - this deal is for people who have the Go Mastercard, so to take advantage of this (and future deals), you'll have to get one of these cards.

I'm just stating the fact of how you can get one of these cards - I'm not a financial advisor and I'm not making a recommendation either way.

        • Thanks for keeping it circlular with your reply lol maybe it should have been in the title if it is for Go mastercard holders only, appears inconsistent at most with some can get it some cant.

Glad you posted the deal though interesting to see how people have got them

Ps you didnt just state how , you encouraged people to apply even providing a link, slightly different

          • @Mikinoz: I used the coupon without the Master Card.. paid via AMEX. Forget the Go Mastercard part.

  • so i can get a logitech z-4 @ hn and use this 50 $ coupon?

  • Just tried Domaine @ Auburn, didnt have to present any card of any sort, just the item and the printed voucher in full color and that was it. $78 total using eftpos

  • Used the voucher today. Confirm it works. I got a total of $101 computing products and paid $51!!! The discount was off the already discounted price. Ticketed price of products purchased was about $150. Not sure how long this will last.

    • where did you go and what did you buy?

      • HN at Domayne Auburn. Bought a wireless mouse, netbook slipcase and a laptop fan.

  • Works nicely.. got a 1TB WD my passport. list price was $177 (RRP $199) and paid only $127. Awesome!!!

  • What if you only have a black and white printer. I mean you got the voucher in the email and printed it out… looks the same as a photocopy tho. :(

    • works with a black and white copy

  • +8

A word (or two) of advice to all those who were refused the discount because they did not present a "Go Mastercard" card:

    Refuse to be refused!

There is nothing on this that says "Only valid with presentation of Go Mastercard". It is reasonable and forseeable that someone who received this in their email, as a valid Go Mastercard customer, might forward the deal on to friends and family etc.. (nothing to say you can't). These receipients have absolutely no idea of the Go Mastercard association because it is not even mentioned on the voucher.

I would not accept them telling me I need to present a Go Mastercard. I would politely (at first, maybe) remind them that I am not in breach of the Terms and Conditions of the giveaway and, given that they have not reserved the right to refuse to honour the voucher, they have no legal right to refuse me the discount. As soon as you start mentioning that they are in breach of Section 52 of the Trade Practices Act (pertaining to false and misleading advertising) they generally give in. I've been through the same thing a ridiculous amount of times. Abide by the terms and conditions and you cannot lose. They will always kick up a stink but when you know you are in the right it's a fairly easy argument to win.

Once you have made this argument there are two likely outcomes:

    1) they give you the discount, maybe with an angry look on their face and acting like you owe them a favour now. Yeah, like I care that you're not happy Mr. Shopman.

    2) they still refuse to honour the voucher…. ZING! You've won the jackpot. Now, given that you made a realistic and reasonable argument to the staff member who served you (try and ask for the manager also), you can go home and make a complaint to head office, mentioning the store, date, time and staff member's name, and threaten to take the matter further with the ombudsman (and if they don't make it up to you, do complain to the ACCC, they will get back to you and then you forward the correspondance on to Harvey Norman to shake them up a little). You may very well end up with a >$50 voucher without having to buy anything at all! It's the reason I always walk out with a smile on my face when they refuse to see reason… I know I will win no matter what :D

    <end rant>

Phew! Good to get that one out. Just thought it was worth going into given that this applies to countless situations… Always be aware of your rights.

    • +2

sheesh that's bit over the top. It's just a coupon man.

    • Kudos to you man. I totally agree.

I went to Auburn HN and the guy at the register didn't know anything about the coupon. Talked to his manager and the manager is telling me that its 50 dollars off the ticketed price. As you know the WD passport 750gig is at $128 to match Office works but was marked at $179.95. The store manager goes I get $50 off the ticketed price not off 128 because like the voucher says "not to be used in conjuction with any other offer". He goes he cant take 50 dollars off somethings thats already discount from RRP. Like how many things are actually RRP?

You have to realise that if i made a purchase without using the voucher say:
      a) the harddrive individually. It would cost me 128.
      b) the harddrive with a computer rrp $1000. It would cost me $1128
      c) the harddrive with a computer rrp $1000 but negotiated down to $900. It would cost me $1028.
      d) Harddrive with other computer parts that cost rrp 150…. $278
      e) 20 x $10 USB flash discs on special from $15 each = $200

Now add the voucher going by the managers comment:
      a) 179.95-50…. 129.95 (as it goes by the marked rrp)
      b) $1078
      c) hang on they are both not rrp but discounted already does the harddrive go back to 179.95 or the laptop back to 1000? so $1029.95 or $1078
      d) $208 or if they are anal and put the price up again for the harddrive ($279.95)
      e) $250

SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO don't accept what I manager is telling simply because he does. Stand your ground. Ask questions. And if the reason given is not satisfactory then don't accept it. The terms and conditions are clear. In this case. Spend over $100 and receive $50 off. Remember had you not shown the voucher as yet you would have been charged $128 for the harddrive as it is the normal price in store and allowed to add the $50 discount as per the vouchers instructions.

So I did get the hard drive at $78 only after at an expense of a heated discussion on my end. I was not going to waste my time driving to Auburn to be simply told I could not get what I expected to get and so should anyone else that takes their time off to travel anywhere to get this deal.

Only way HN can stop this from happening if they do no want to sell the harddrive for $78 (which I'm sure is below cost price for them) is to tell the consumer that it is out of stock. Not some excuse just because they don't want to sell it to you.

      • Hmm… standing up for your rights is one thing, but getting something at the expense of somebody else (even if that somebody else happens to be a franchise) is a bit out of line to me. After all, you may be ripping off a legitimate business owner making them sell something below their cost just so you can smile your smug smile having saved $50.

So yeah, I agree with you only up until the point where you say that forcing them to sell you something below cost price is purely your prerogative.

  • +1

You will do all these for $50? I have better use of my time then wasting anymore than 10min on this.

    • So you get paid $300 an hour? ;)

  • I like my profit margin to be high from my time investment. Whats the point of breaking even?

    • +1

Because doing any of that takes little or no thought and can be done while you do something else, so you are not losing anything. It's especially true in this case. If you have spent 20 minutes driving to your local Harvey Norman, 10 minutes shopping around to choose $100 worth of technology products, 20 minutes driving home and you've got absolutely nothing to show for it, it may be worth spending 5 minutes doing something about it. That's literally all it takes. Escalating the complaint to the ACCC only adds another 5 minutes if you keep a record of your original complaint, as you just write two sentences and then show them what you have already sent off (they prefer it that way anyway). They will then take the reins from there. That is why they exist - to keep an eye on businesses who flaunt the law, whether knowingly or not.

That's besides the point though. First, you argue with them at the checkout so they don't waste your time, and you get what you came to get at the price you expected to pay. It doesn't cost you anything. I usually apologise to the people who have to wait 2-3 minutes behind me in the line and the most common response is along the lines of "No don't worry about it it's the staff member who is wasting our time".

Then, if they continue to say no you take it further because if you don't, they win. Another little person trampled by the big corporation.

Plus, on top of it all, it's fun :D

    • Exactly. The voucher should be simple and easy to use. I was not going to drive all the way to HN and get refused the offer. Just slack for everyone else that does get refused.

  • This worked at Martin Place. I grabbed the 750GB WD passport for $78. No requirements to show the Go Mastercard.

  • Just grabbed XBOX 360 Wireless Controller, Quick Charge and Charge & Play for $89 at Auburn Domayne. Quick Charge was also 50% off for me, which I thought was a bargain within itself. No need for GO Mastercard at all.

  • Worked at HN broadway. However when i went to the checkout and presented the voucher, the girl had to ask someone else, who then asked the supervisor. The supervisor asked me where i got it from before saying no problems. Got a Microsoft 3000 Mini Optical mouse and a WD Elements 1TB for $63 all up!

    Great post!

    • How did you get all that for 63$.? tell me ur secret please =)

      • Microsoft Mini Optical Mouse = $18 On Sale
        WD Elements 1TB = $95 On Sale

        = $113 - $50 = $63.

        Cheers

        • thanks, wow thats a bargain =) to bad it doesnt have e-sata

          • @merc250: Yeah USB 2.0 so slow. But hey $63….you get what you pay for!

  • Ahh great! Other states miss out :(

  • Any other good bargain combos at harvey norman that could be used with the coupon?

  • +1

HARVEY NORMAN @ DOMAYNE AUBURN DID IT…. 100% go to the muslim lady Aminah @ the checkouts and she will help you. Very nice. Spent an hour across the road to get the ticketed (highest) price bullshit… This one walk in walk out in 5 mins!!

A big Thank you to the team @
    Harvey Norman Auburn @ DOMAYNE
and to Aminah.. 100% service satisfaction

Auburn HN you have been PUT on NOTICE…
    Improve or lose…

    $95WD1tb + $9 Usb Hub = $54

    • Mate, after seeing your post, I headed straight there. Staff were really helpful (including Aminah. No need for go mastercard). Really good service to be honest. Second only to Athlete's foot.

Got the Brother HL-2140 + the Microsoft Optical 3000 wireless notebook mouse for 106 - 50 = $56. Might go again and pick up a second HL-2140 if I can. Pretty good quality for the price!

  • I don't think the coupon works at Martin Place anymore (without GO card). I brought my goods to the counter and the lady told me I needed to show my GE (GO) card in order to use the voucher. Very disappointed.

MOD: modfied post to remove sensitive words

    • Took longer than I thought for HN to get on top of this.

  • wd750gb - HN @martin place has increased the price to $148

  • I can confirm domayne auburn is taking $50 off already discounted prices without the need for a gomastercard

I went in there and bought 2 clearance items (Logitech quickcam pro 9000) and paid $70 for two of them (originally $120 marked down to $60 each).

No need to print in colour. I noticed one of these vouchers printed in colour on the counter (silly ozbargainer!)

    • That was probably me LOL. (A friend printed it for me)

  • OMG I just came from from domayne HN at north ryde - got the 98$ 1 TB portable drive + 4 alkaline batteries for 101, then the discount of 50 bucks. Total 51 bucks. No need of mastercard. I'll have to come back to pick up the HDD tho.

    BEST DEAL EVA!

I could so create a FB fan page for this store - such good deals :D

Eric Palmer is the manager - and he's the man :)

    • 98$ 1 TB portable drive - is it the one powered by usb? Portable vs Desktop
i don't think 1TB portable usb hd is at the price $98

      • they were running a special at their branch a week ago, they said they have a few more in stock, so I managed to bag one.

sounds unbelievable but true… It is a 2.5 HDD toshiba 1TB

  • +1

Just bought the 1TB WD Elements External Hard Drive, retailed at $129.99 and reduced to $94.00 plus a Lexar 4GB USB Jumpdrive on sale at $7 reduced from $14.95 totaling $101.00 then using the voucher I bagged it for $51
Purchased from HN at the Hills Homemaker Centre in Castle Hill
They had a big stand of the 1TB drives so plenty in stock plus plenty of various Lexar USB jumb drives.
Just make sure you take the latest online cat showing the USB sale prices as some of the bigger USB were ticketed at higher prices.

  • Watch out for one of the ladies at the counter @ MartinPlace, who works on Thursdays. She keeps demanding the Go Mastercard and pisses the shits outta you.

    SHES ANNOYING. AVOID HER :)

mod - thanks for the warning. We've taken out racial identification, which was intended to assist in identification, just in case some find it offensive

    • +1

Cool mate i hav a GE card where r u at?

    • +1

mod: Responding to racist comment. Removed

On a serious note, you don't need to stereotype and use these terms. Everyone enjoys a bargain and it's GoMastercard and HN's fault for not clarifying their terms and conditions. But good to know the opinions of HN staff towards their customers. Thanks.

    • +3

      A few points:

      1. They issued a coupon that doesn't mention "GO Mastercard" or "GE Money" anywhere. This is from a company that includes, quite literally, half a page of fine print on every catalogue so that when half the franchisees are dishonest enough to not put the specials out they're let out of it by the obscene legalese.

      2. Harvey Norman's margins are fat enough that they are overall unlikely to lose money, especially since for every person that spend the bare minimum there's probably half a dozen that spend significantly more.

      3. The promotional benefit for the individual franchisees is quite strong. If you get a bargain from Harvey Norman on a cheap hard disk or printer or something you're more likely to go back when you want, say, a laptop. That's if they don't manage to upsell you while you're in the shop.

      4. Attitudes like yours are part of the reason people hate Harvey Norman - that instead of a customer you're a wallet with an annoying bit of meat attached to it. If Harvey Norman screws you, you couldn't give a rat's arse if you're screwing them back.

      5. If you were important enough to have any say whatsoever in whether the vouchers were accepted or not you would be able to write a hell of a lot better than you do.

  • I will apply a GE card so I can just come and use it. I'm going to shout you super hot Curry Rice for lunch too… Everyone who has used the voucher please share their success stories so the person who is shouting can feel more pain every time it reads a story.

  • Stop shouting you idiot~!!

  • Got lucky at HN Auburn today (Not domayne)

Was able to get $50 off discounted prices without too much trouble.

  • +1

can u use this to buy a printer?

    • Yep - did it yesterday with a laser printer.

  • Confirmed it worked at Domayne HN Alexandria got the 750gb HDD with no trouble was served by a polite young lady in red shirt.
However, there may be trouble using the coupon there in future. My mate also tried to use his coupon a few minutes after I did at the same counter and was being processed accordingly then all of a sudden a "well rounded" woman with a blue shirt (I assume a manager) came over to the counter and abruptly started asking for the GO Mastercard and saying that they don't accept photocopies (in reality it was a laser printout). My mate said that the coupon was accepted a few minutes ago without problem and did not have the Go Mastercard on him, but the Manager was insistent and the young lady working the counter looked quite upset possibly because she was now in hot water with the manager. My mate didn't put up much of a fight and just left a very unhappy customer.
Hopefully, no staff got in trouble in this fiasco, from the looks of things if that Manager wanted to take a hardline approach with this she should have
    1. done her job and trained her staff
    2. since there is no mention of the GO Mastercard it shouldn't be enforced. They should have at least put up signs stating that the coupon was not valid in the shop without the GO card before you went in, so you wouldn't waste your time going in. Instead they have signs everywhere telling you of the sale and "massive savings".
Also ironic that a manager of a HN "The Computer Specialist" shop assumes that black and white laser printout must be a photocopy, was she expecting inkjet only? maybe dot matrix printouts?. Sounds to me that someone is a Harvey Norman Obsolete Computer Specialist.
I feel good because I was able to use it but bad that my friend wasn't and also staff got into trouble.

  • My turn to report now. It's still working at HN Broadway Sydney. They did ask me for the card but I told him I didn't bring it. Without the card they need authorization from the manager which was quickly done by the sales person. I've gotten the 1TB portable HD ($94) and a 4gb Lexar ($13). Good stuff~!!!

  • I used this at HN Castle Hill yesterday. Needed a laser printer to print wedding invites. Got a nice Brother printer on sale from $149 to $88, plus bought 2x 4gb Lexar memory sticks at $7 each. Total $102, after discount $52 - AWESOME price!! Went to the register, didn't get asked for the Go Card, all went through totally fine.

My father went up later and bought an iphone dock/clock radio/hub thingy reduced from $249 to $159 and then got the $50 off that too.

    Thanks so much OP!

    • Congratulations and no problem!
