Cost of 'luxury' items are down. Cost of living and property is way up. That's the world now!

    • +4

My iPad 6 still works perfectly.

Who needs a new iPad anyway?

Dont spend what you dont need.

Thats how to keep your cost of living down

      • +2

People whose iPads have carked it

        • Technology is not allowed to die in this household. If it breaks it mostly gets lived with or repaired (except if it's a mac book pro that wants $1000 for a second hand screen)

          • +1

@Joejoeinc: Eventually, technology dies or becomes outdated.

My iPad 3 (purchased in 2012) is really struggling these days. I replaced the battery a few years ago, but that's now on its way out, and it's hard to justify another battery replacement. So many apps just don't work on it anymore (because it's stuck on iOS 9) and those that do are becoming increasingly sluggish.

It's only 13 years old (the same age as my Mac mini that is still going strong thanks to OCLP), but it really feels like it's time for a replacement.

      • +4

No Sorry.Thats not going to make much of a difference.

An ordinary house is costing a million dollars now.
        Thats a lot of Ipads.

        • +2

Considering saving for buying a house, 1 iPad at a time :)

      • +6

Quick everybody, Dr Phils iPad 6 still works, gather round the fire and lets listen to his story.

      • OK so advice for people who don't own an iPad?

        • -3

You don't need one. Get an android tablet if you must

          • +1

@dealmaker: As someone with a great Android tablet and no Apple products, I'm not sure there are any Android tabs that are better bang for buck than this at this price.

      • People with Kids.

        Kids getting old now..

    • So if you already bought a property and electronics ptices are coming down is a good thing. Its only for people who havemt got anything yet. Ah wells too bad for gen Z and Alphas…

Be grateful you don’t live in America. The tariffs are going to absolutely hammer households.

      • America: Watch it 🔥

(But I feel sorry for the masses over there)

  • +50

I have a feeling that in 8 days OW will have this for $498.

    • +1

      *$498.99

      • +1

        Bonus, they went to $497

    • Yep, can’t see them copping a bigger hit on price match

    • Exactly.

Why… "assuming Officeworks does not drop their price to match BIG W" ??

    • +2

      Good Guys already started.
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/903004

    • aaaaaaand you were right

  • -1

strange times we live in, considering the tariffs happening, shouldn't this go up instead?

    • +38

Higher prices in USA = less demand… so more supply for Australia (should) = lower prices

      • +12

Should tell Sony about it for their PS5 pricing.

        • Sony are increasing their PS5 price in smalller markets to subsidise the tariffs in USA - jerks

      • Not sure that's true as I believe they have large amounts of stock, would take probably a year for us to start getting savings. I could be wrong though.

      • Yep kinda like when china stopped importing our wine and lobster. Higher supply was dumped here at low prices

    • +10

This is imported from China so not impacted. Our free trade agreement with China means that any Chinese goods are duty free.

      • Yeah not directly impacted as in cost per unit sold here but if there is more supply (due to less demand in USA) then lower prices makes sense. But probably won’t work like that especially with big brands.

    • +1

no 11th gen dropped to $199 US dollars on sale according to an article I saw. at first 10th gen 64GB dropped to $199, then this new 11th Gen 128GB dropped to $199 soon after.

      • Can you please link to the source (article)?. Did a quick search but could find any such info

        • I can't remember the page. I literally read it (US article) then checked local prices, and saw it wasn't on sale. closed tab.

but I read it about a week ago, on a tech blog type website. basically 10th gen went on sale first for $199, then there was a "Update" text added to the top of article with timestamp/date, that "now the 11th Gen A16 128GB is on sale for the same price of $199". all I remember is the update text was inside a border at the top of the article.

        • whoops sorry it was $299 not $199.

    • +7

I hate to break it to you, but we aren't in the USA

      • Exactly, and the 10% tariff imposed on us is still in effect, even though the more attention grabbing ones have been paused for 90 days.

    • -1

If you can predict the prices then you'll be a rich person.More often than not it's gonna be opposite to what the popular media is saying.

      • Sounds like you will be the rich one then

    • -2

US tariffs mean "Don't buy US products", so they discount to sell. This is still expensive -17.3% compared to -36%pre-order of my S23 Ultra, which is superior in capability & I got -36.2% discount (512G ram, BT S-pen, superior cameras & 12GB RAM for AI on >2y old phone, DeX windows …

    Does Apple Store price match?

Or does Rewards 10% off work on Apple products at BigW?

    • +1

      Does Apple Store price match?

Yes up to 10% off RRP.

Or does Rewards 10% off work on Apple products at BigW?

      No.

    • +1

There's a chance shopback may do another >10% gift card promo (last one i got a few months back was 17.5%). Not today but maybe next wednesday

  • +1

How's it compare to iPad 10? Much upgrade?

    • +2

A16 with 128GB storage. Not too much difference if you are only streaming.

    • +36

If people only learnt to read.

  • +2

How do you know it's on sale? I can't find the upcoming catalogue.

    • +2

      Just trust the process mate.

      • I'd do anything to 'save 50 cent' :)

        • +1

          Even bendover?

  • -3

Does OW price match catalogue price? So I don’t have to wait 8 days

    • +6

Pretty sure it needs to be available for that price and in stock at the time of price match

    • -1

They will match the price by the time the sales starts.

  • +2

What if officeworks lowers the price to $498 one day before?

    • +11

100% they will! OW marketing team is definitely trolling OzB

    • Yeah most probably they will change the price by then hahaha

  • +2

    Now that’s a great price!!

  • +4

Great iPad - i've had it for around a month. Perfect for what I need. I have access to apple employee pricing so paid slightly less.
Non-laminated display didn't matter to me, and to be honest I couldn't even tell the difference in store. I was looking at the iPad Air also, but it's no way worth an extra $450.

  • +6

Man, wish the iPad Mini was this price. I find the iPad too big to Youtube short binge.

  • +1

hmm with this price is very attempting but comparing with mine iPad Air 4th (A14) 64GB in specification-wise which still not worth it.

    • Won’t be much of an upgrade for you. I have an iPad Air 256gb cellular that still serves me well. I might upgrade but not sure if I will as I have too many tablets! I just got an alldocube mini 60 turbo which has been my favourite devices besides my iPhone.

  • Question - would paying with gift cards impact the ability to claim TRS or tax deduction as a business expense?

    • +2

You should be OK for TRS purposes. Tax deduction is technically based on the amount of expenditure incurred (ie how much you paid to buy the gift cards as opposed to the nominal value of the gift cards used to purchase the item), so the amount of deduction you can claim may be impacted.

  • +1

Is it just the blue colour that is going on sale, OP? Also, could you please guide me to where I can see this offer advertised?

  • +12

Before anyone gets any ideas - Everyday Extra 10% discount is not applicable on Apple Products as expected.

    • Wait what, NOOOO

  • +1

Given this promo is in 8 days OW will definitely bring their price to $498. Its so unprofitable to sell these Apple devices I wonder how OW manages to keep selling them

    • As long as they don't lose money by selling it below cost, there isn't much marginal costs to them for stocking the Apple devices.

    • +4

Soccer mums buying $80 belkin cases that wholesale for $20.

      • I actually saw a belkin case distributor in shenzhen mart last year, same thing going for $3 each lol

  • -2

Would be great to see a wifi+gps version at this or lower price.

  • +1

Anyone know roughly how long this version would probably last ?

Currently have an ipad 6th gen, haven't used it much in the past couple years as it's just been running so slow….

Mostly wanting to use for excel (basic spreadsheets), streaming, browsing.

    • +4

should do you fine for 5 years easy. my 2018 ipad pro is still going strong til this day, with no slowdown whatsever.

      • My 2016 pro is definitely slow but works fine, especially for streaming shows.

      • I'm playing Diablo Immortal on 2018 Pro and it runs great. Feels smoother than on Samsung S25 Ultra.

  • i just bought one the other day for $531 and havent opened yet =(

  • Wish the IPads with silicon chips on sale too

    • +3

I think you'll find all ipads have Silicon chips, since the very first one.

      • Haha, i mean M serieas.

  • +4

How is it known that they will go on sale?

    • +1

I asked my good friend ChatGPT to predict it.

    • Usually in next weeks catalogue, sometimes the printed ones are distributed earlier than online.

      • Can OP please post a photo of the catalogue, as I don't believe this deal…

    • +1

I didn’t think you could post something like this without proof.

  • Costco usually discounts Apple products but 11th Gen iPad seems to be not discounted so lets hope Costco will be more aggressive ($479) !

    • Then use discounted Ultimate gift cards to pay for price beat at Officeworks.

      • I thought we can't use gc to pay for the price beat products?

    • +1

      In 8 days.
