    Solid deal O.P

  • +1

What does "Dual" mean in this case? You get two in the box? Because that's what it implies to me. Obviously doesn't seem likely at this price. Misleading marketing perhaps?

    • +2

Dual fan on the cooler system.

      • +8

Oh wow. Like just about every other GTX1070 except for the mini one?

        • +1

          no,there are many giant triple-fan 1070 cards.

        • +5

@mikelin: You wouldn't advertise DUAL in giant letters as your selling point when there are TRI fan cards out there.

Every card of this size that uses this fan design (it blows air out instead of sucking it in) has at least two fans. It is nothing special to turn into a brand.

        • +13

@lostn: You must be fun at parties!

    • +3

      dual FAN

like Sapphire with their Tri-x for 3 fans, its marketing

      • -3

So they market it as not Dual Fan (which is standard) but just DUAL, and leave it to the customer's imagination? It's certainly a cheap way to grab attention.

        • +3

Haha in this price I expected one fan…two fan is a big deal =D

        • just think how tough it is to come up with some unique name to sell a video card, they pump out so many of these across the range every cycle, i mean there's only so many fancy names you can call couple of fans on a heatsink with a PCB

        • +12

          @Balls:

GTX 1080 SuperTurboCU TwinFrozr-VaporWindForce Edition now with quintuple copper heatpipes and 16 bladed fans for up to 33 percent better cooling performance (*)

(* when compared to a similar stock card running Crysis 3 at 4K in the Sub-saharan desert)

        • -1

@Balls: GTX1070 OC would suffice. They aren't offering a product unique that no one else does. It doesn't need a distinct name.

How many cards of this length do you know of with one fan other than the Founders style blower fan?

        • +1

          @lostn: Asus Turbo series~~ :P

    • +1

Yeah, I thought that too; but in my case it was more of dual-GPU card then two sets of singles. I looked it up and to my disappointment, no where in the specification that it mentions dual GPU card….. :(

    • How on earth did you think dual would refer to two cards …? Would you be disappointed to learn that Leadtek cards contain no traces of actual lead? Misleading marketing no doubt.

      • +4

Based on the price I didn't expect it to be two cards. But DUAL to me implies either dual core (two GPUs on one PCB) or two cards in the package for SLI. They shouldn't be trying to mislead people like that.

What a company calls its own name doesn't matter. Microsoft is not an anti-viagra drug company.

      • Considering how many dual GPU cards have been available over the years, marketing a video card as a "Dual" card is legitimately misleading. It may not catch out people that know better, but that's not really who this kind of marketing trick is aimed at.

    • +5

Yes, it's pretty damn misleading IMO. The product name is literally "DUAL GTX 1070", with no attempt to separate the terms or clarify what dual refers to. There's only one immediately obvious way to interpret that on first reading, and people are naive if they think it isn't intentionally misleading on Asus' part.

  • Does it support to eliminate fan noise by stopping the fans in low-load situations?

    • Yes. I've gone through two 1070's so far, both were silent. Fans spin up to 66RPM max :P

    • +1

      I have this card and I don't believe it's a feature.

    • just use 3rd party software and change fan curve profile

  • Pickup or online order?
Do people think there will be better boxing day deals?

    • I didnt see a pick up option from the online store, but delivery is an additional $10~

    • +2

It CAN be picked up in store. go to MSY homepage and chose to pickup in store. Make an account or login, then choose the store you want to pick it up from. Add the item to your card and then proceed to checkout, In the payment page it will say "pay and pickup in store". Hope this helps.

      • Yeah I knew that. I meant if I go pickup to save 30$ fees are they going to honour the deal.

        Thanks though

  • 1070 or 1060? I'm just hoping to play at 1920x1080 on High for most games. Besides the obvious performance differences, why would someone get the 1070 over the 1060?

    • +7

1060 6GB will do you fine, 1070 will be very good. If you've got the budget then go for it!

    • +2

      1060 for 1080p 60fps gaming
1070 for 1440p @ 60fps, or 1080p @ 100+fps to experience the fluidity of high refresh rate monitors

    • +1

1060 is more powerful than the 980, which is plenty enough for 1080p gaming. But if you intend to upgrade your screen some day, it might be handy to have that little extra oomph of the 1070, which is more powerful than last gen's GTX Titan. For VR it will also give you more leeway for future games since that has to render twice.

970 is the minimum requirement for VR, but that's based on games at launch, and it's a minimum spec. Future games will raise that bar.

      • Assuming VR isn't dead by next year :p

        • If Facebook is involved they have plenty of money to throw at it. They put a lot of eggs into this basket. They aren't going to throw it all away.

Microsoft and Apple are looking to get in, as are Nintendo. Sony, HTC, Valve, Google and Samsung are already in. There's too many big companies putting money into this for them all to give up.

It will eventually get big, just not in the first few years.

The first iPad and iPhone sucked donkeys balls compared to today's models. They need time to get it right. At the moment it's for fools early adopters. Eventually the quality of the devices and experiences will go up and the prices will come down, and then it will live up to its hype. A lot of money will be lost before it reaches that point, but to give up on VR entirely would be to lose even more money due to all that R&D and software publishing deals.

        • @lostn: The first iPad and iPhones were successful so I don't know why you're using that comparison. And throwing money at something doesn't make it work.

        • @lostn: If they can make VR as good as the ones shown in movies and anime - I'll be all for it(assuming I don't die before this happens….)! hahaha

        • @Diji1: The comparison isn't for success but quality. There's no way I would want to use a first gen iPad or iPhone now. And after a few revisions VR will be the same.

  • Wait for a better deal?

    • This is the best price ever… I would not wait anymore.

      • +11

        You're an idiot, period.

      • It all depends what you want to use it for. A $500 may suffice for your needs but to others. Not so much.

      • +4

Just don't buy anything ever and save all your money!

  • this is a good price, considering i paid 569 (i think) a few months ago. got gow4 as nvidia asus promo.

current promo is watch dogs 2. will trade with anyone (gow4 for wd2 key)

card is fine. it's quiet (firmware update for zero fan spinning when idle) and also firmware update for micron(?) ram, that caused it to crash. havent had any crashes as i did it asap.

    • -1

The WD2 promo ended on the 19th. Funnily enough, that's what stopped me from buying it.

    • Also paid $562.50 for the 8G GTX 1070 ASUS Dual 2 months back from MSY. With free GOW4. Great card and quiet.

For those who got GOW4 code and haven't claimed the game. You must redeem codes before December 30th, 2016 to secure the game. Gets linked to your Microsoft account. Recently installed and download size is 84.9gb through MS store. Can be downloaded any time.

$505 is a good price for this card. Even if there is currently no bonus free game offer. Free Watchdogs 2 ended December 19, 2016.

  • might be a really stupid question, but how do I choose to pick up?

I look around the page, even on other products' but don't seem to see the options.

    • +1

It CAN be picked up in store. go to MSY homepage and chose to pickup in store. Make an account or login, then choose the store you want to pick it up from. Add the item to your card and then proceed to checkout, In the payment page it will say "pay and pickup in store". Hope this helps.

      • Thanks, I see and figured it out now. it is pick the store first, you either pick the online or brick/mortar store. Depending on that choice, then you will be directed to either pick up or delivery.

  • Wow amazing price for a 1070.perfect x'mas present. Adding some white snowy looking gpu into the pc build this x'mas

  • I'm so keen to buy one. Would be upgrading from a gtx780. Is the 1070 worth it?

    • +6

      yes

    • +1

780 isn't too bad. If it was me I would hold out for one more generation.

But if you're struggling to run the latest games, or you're keen to buy one, then get it.

    • Yes.

  • -8

Good deal but you would probably need at least an i7 6700 to make use of it and not get cpu bottlenecked. My gtx1060 6gb gets slightly bottlenecked by i5 6600k.

    • +2

I'm running a 5 year old i5 2500k(heavy overclock of course) and it doesn't badly bottleneck my 1070. There hasn't been huge leaps in CPU architecture since Sandy Bridge so you can definitely pair older overclocked CPUs and a 1070.

    • There's not a big difference between 6600 and 6700. And it certainly doesn't bottleneck a 1070.

GPU advancement each year far surpasses CPU advancement in horsepower. If the CPUs were going to bottleneck a card, they would have bottlenecked it long ago, and AMD/Nvidia wouldn't have even bothered releasing new cards.

      • -2
        • Just linked a discussion on the performance of i7 6700K vs i5 6600k, I find it a valid point considering my comment above. Not sure why I got negged, just trying to show some examples of relevant cases.

        • @McCree: Not really relevant in your case. He's testing with a titan x which is more than 2x the performance of a 1060, and from the looks of it, maybe even at 1080p or at best 1440p. The titan x is a ~$1800 card, I don't think anyone who has it, is going to skimp out $100 for an i5 instead. So I find it hard believe you're running into a cpu bottleneck with a 6600…

CPU bottlenecks are a thing though. I'm running a 1070 and I have run into issues where I've ran into a couple of bottlenecks. But when it happens, it's always at very high fps (150+ higher fps is generally more taxing on the cpu. So if the titan x is used at the intended 4k resoulution, there probably won't even be any difference), but at that point who cares if it does since you are running at such a high fps. It is certainly better to run an i7(probably negligible in your case), but it's certainly not worth it when you have a 1060, where that extra money could get you a 1070 instead

        • @Hunga: this is the old titan x which is in fact slightly slower/pretty much equivalent compared to the gtx1070 so it is an excellent comparison. This demonstrates the excellent value for money the current pascal cards are and the sheer power they pull which reflects need for strong cpu performance so I find the upgrade to i7 relevant to maximize the card which previously was glossed over, people immediately dismissing i7's and only considering i5.

        • @McCree: My point still stands. I'm not denying that there's no benefit of going for an i7 over an i5 equivalent. But in most cases, you aren't going to hit a bottleneck unless you run at high fps and even then an i7 isn't going to help you much (in most cases it's within the margin of error) because games still favour clock rates of fewer cores more than anything. But that's up to you to decide whether it's worth it.

        • @McCree:

im running an i5 6500 and a gtx 1070, not once has my CPU bottlenecked my performance @ 1080p 144hz (max settings every game)

  • Just pulled the trigger. Been telling myself to wait until it's close to $500 and this is close enough. My order probably won't be ready tomorrow so if a better deal comes up on the 26th I could always just not pick it up. There are no reviews on this particular card as it is overshadowed by it's big brother, the STRIX. Discussion here.

  • +1

Seems like a decent price but not amazing

    • Its a good price for local stock, best deal was the black friday evga 1070 FTW for 499 delivered from amazon france

      • -3

This is actually cheaper as includes gst which some ppl can claim…

  • Ok, heads up shipping cost around 27.50 after msy had worked its magic "Handling fees" into account. Was ready to pull the trigger but they can blow a goat charging that much to ship the card inter state.

    • Why not just go to a store?

      • +2

        introvert 4 lyfe?

    • Seems fair given they need to handle the card to a post office or pack and send. You want an extra service others wont pay for in this pockup price? Pay for it.

  • Might be a factor for some but "NO Backplate"

  • +1

    Good deal, nice find OP

  • Do I need to report this issue to HQ ? The IT guys are off now anyway :)

    • Can we pickup today?

      • I've been emailed my pick-up confirmation from my local store. I'd imagine it would come down to how fast your store processes the online orders.

        • Wow that was fast.

Been waiting for pickup confirmation since 6.

And my branch will close 2.30, and will open after new year.

        • @Hunterbargain:
I would try calling them and seeing if you can come and pick it up.

      • Nope, can't pickup before or after the 26th. The sales person asked me to come in on the 26th if i want it at that price. I ordered it yesterday and got the pickup confirmation this morning.

        • I picked mine up today, staff didn't ask any questions.

  • +1

I pulled the trigger on this one, but the local MSY store said that they don't have stock but have a Turbo instead..

Any tech gurus know the difference between DUAL and Turbo?

    • +1

The cooler for one is different.

    • +1

The clock speeds are pretty similar. The difference is the cooler; Dual is the aftermarket dual fan setup while the Turbo is a windturbine/windtunnel single fan set up. Generally, they are a bit nosier/run warmer but rely less on airflow of your case due to blowing the air out of the case.

    • +1

Dual has a better cooler system.

      • +1

Appreciate your responses guys! I guess I can wait for them to get the DUAL in stock :)

        First piece of my PC!

  • For future reference, can anyone give a rough idea of what I need to spend on the rest of the system if I based a build on a graphics card deal?

    • GPUs are pretty flexible. Including the price of the graphics card probably anywhere from 1200-1800, give or take (depending on things like overclocking, cooling, aesthetics).

    • Psu

      Mobo+cpu+ram

      Case

      Priority from top to bottom.

Still you can't use if one missing.

The priority because without enough power from psu, ur system will restart when gpu dont get enough power that it request.

Mobo+cpu+ram, u still can use old parts from old system. Probably bottleneck, but depends how old the system.

Case, u can always not using case.

So if builds from brand new prob like above 1200++

If u recycle ur old pc. Probably only need to spend 200 for good psu

    • +1

Off the top of my head for a budget build:

      Motherboard Gigabyte B150M-D3H $129

      8GB 2133 RAM $70

      CPU Intel i5-6600 $300

      500W Corsair CX500 PSU $80

      Case $90

Monitor you can look at 1920x1080 or 2560x1440 with this card

  • So I've made a pickup order yesterday but it's showing now that my chosen store is out of stock. Is it possible to cancel my existing order and order online?

  • thoughts on the samsung screen?

  • +1

The Auburn store is sold out of the 1070 so don't bother with walk-ins.

    • sales dude at counter told me no 1070,s were sold to walk ins everybody orded online then choose to pickup.

  • my $500 EVGA from amazon.fr hasn't even arrived yet… should've waited for this..lol

  • +3

Hey all I just logged in to msy to buy the 1070 and I got it for 422.67 delivered. So not sure why or how, if it's a mistake get in there quick. 404 pick up as per website
