As compared with the Surface Book at around the same price it does…..what? The Surface Book only comes in 13.5"? Ok, my bad.

"Not only do Apple products hold their value well, but the demand for them is extremely high," Anthony Scarsella, Gazelle's Chief Gadget Officer, told us.
And not by a little. By a lot. "It's a factor of two," says NextWorth's CMO Jeff Trachsel. "Apple products are generally worth about twice as much as other devices at the same period in their lifecycle."

Why Do Macs Hold Their Resale Value?
http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/apple-tax-macs-hold-resale-valu…

Actually, just did a check on eBay of completed sales & my 3 year old MacBook Pro 15 Late 2013 512GB SSD has only lost 20% value. Inconceivable for a Windows based laptop.

The new MacBook Pro is faster and more powerful than before, yet remarkably thinner and lighter.1 It has the brightest, most colourful Mac notebook display ever. And it introduces the revolutionary Touch Bar a Multi-Touchenabled strip of glass built into the keyboard for instant access to what you want to do, when you want to do it. The new MacBook Pro is built on groundbreaking ideas. And its ready for yours.

The price of these new Macs have me looking at all the other options. I think a Hackintosh is the only way to go now.

    • any recommendations on what you would use? Never considered a hackintosh before but looks like the way to go

      • From reading I have done iof late, i5 6200u spec Zenbooks are a popular well supported Hackintosh candidate.
Some of the reviews I was reading suggested they could make every thing work with IOS except the wifi card which is easily swapped out for a IOS compatiable unit

I’m still researching but I’ll probably go with a Skylake i7 based Metabox Prime with an NVIDIA GTX 1060 if there are no breakthroughs with Kaby Lake in the next couple of months. I need a beast for video and sound production.

If you’re worried about weight then the Skylake based Dell XPS 13’s have worked out well for people.

bad reviews with this gen of macbooks pro, I'll avoid

    • -3

funnily enough I seem to see mostly good reviews…apart from the ports connectivity issue and as toasty said, the price.
Had a play around with one and loved it. For the above reasons though I'm giving these a miss and is time to look at alternatives.

      • Battery time seems to be an issue as well

        • worse than previous generation?

        • @aec:

Seems it is up and down….massive variation between sessions. Hopefully that will be an issue that gets sorted with a software update….not then avoid the first batch and wait till it gets sorted

“For instance, in a series of three consecutive tests, the 13-inch model with the Touch Bar ran for 16 hours in the first trial, 12.75 hours in the second, and just 3.75 hours in the third. The 13-inch model without the Touch Bar worked for 19.5 hours in one trial but only 4.5 hours in the next. And the numbers for the 15-inch laptop ranged from 18.5 down to 8 hours. ”

" for instant access to what you want to do, when you want to do it."

Err, no. It is not user programmable, so 'what we think you want to do in the way we say you shall do it.' To be fair, with Apple, that always has been the bug that is their feature. That, and looking good.

Apple's newest MacBook Pro is the first MacBook not recommended by Consumer Reports - http://www.businessinsider.com.au/apple-macbook-pro-2016-con…

Oh look, a Mac post. I better get in there real quick and inform everyone of my distaste.

Or, I could allow those that are interested in the product to discuss the deal without having to wade through the same crap every time.

Na, imma go with the first option.

Edit: I should say, this isn't directed at all those that have posted on this thread so far. There's at least one of you though. It's just because I know what is likely to come based on previous threads.

Macs are the only laptop I can make money out of by buying under the business & selling privately second hand. Speaks volumes.

Puffinfresh……you are looking at life wrongly. You should be grateful these people take the time to come on here and specifically vent their negativity, they are obviously doing it for the greater benefit of mankind.

      This requires time and effort.

You and I and of course the majority of consumers don't understand why they feel the necessity to spend time searching forums and posting these comments but possibly you and I and the vast majority of consumers lead a balanced life. I think the need to constantly post 'anti' comments is a result of personal issues and the inability to be able to let people make their own decisions and see things differently from their own narrow views of life.

How do you do the office works price beat? How is this $1000 off the normal Apple retail price?

  • Wished I had looked at this expired deal on the weekend when I price march the good guys with officeworks. iFrog are still cheaper at $3134.14, I would have saved an extra $100.
