    This TV is 200hz :)

      Fixed thank you

No it's not, can't believe people still fall for that

the KS8500 comes with a native 120Hz refresh rate that’s about the standard for premium 4K TVs in 2015 and 2016. Samsung also adds in a spec for what they call Motion Rate 240Hz, which is basically a type of motion interpolation addition to the native refresh technology, and while it does improve motion in onscreen video somewhat, the visual effect created might not be to everyone’s liking.

      • I think everyone generally understands that you divide the advertised rate by two (As far as I know there is no 240hz TV on the market this year). It is still a 120hz panel, which is more than enough to cover the required information to limit motion blur. The advertised refresh rate is still 200hz, not 100hz. Correct me if I'm wrong.

        • +1

240 hz and 120hz is american tvs in aus and nz they run 200 and 100hz

      • This one has a refresh rate of 200Hz, not 240hz

  • JB Hi-Fi delivers whitegoods to most metro areas for free, so does anyone know if they would deliver TVs for free as well? If they would do that then that would make JB cheaper.

    • I doubt it
Why would they offer free delivery on items if it makes them no money

      Not logical business sense

      • Well, if you check their site and hover your mouse over their whitegoods section (around the top right-hand side), it says they deliver them for free to most metro areas in major cities.

        Edit: Here's the link https://www.jbhifi.com.au/features/general/whitegoods-free-d…

        • +1

Whitegoods are the crux of their sales though, they factor in pricing of delivery into the sales price, so even if you knock them down a bit they still upmark enough to cover costs, not many people can take a fridge away like a tv, offering free delivery seals the deal as a sweeter.

A tv can go into most people's cars, utes or whatever today and as you are very well aware, the market is cut throat for televisions, you don't usually buy a fridge every few years keeping up with the latest hdmi, hdcp,8k panel etc, a fridge cools and the freezer freezes, a basic concept that hasn't changed in the last 50 years, offering rock bottom pricing when you haggle for a tv means they're going to either charge for delivery or the extended warranty they try and push on customers

To be honest, try your luck but I doubt they will offer free shipping on a tv during normal sales, perhaps with the whole Christmas and boxing day garbage they have on now they may be more willing to help

          Good luck though

        • Free delivery is only available when whitegoods (most?) are ordered from the JB Hi-Fi website.

        • @hypie: Which is what I was referring to.

    • I'm gonna try for it tomorrow. Hoping for for the 65" KS8000 + PS4 Pro with free delivery on the TV thrown in

      • Let's know how it goes.

How does this compare to the Sony KD55X8500D? I'm looking to upgrade my TV before new year

    • +4

Check out rtings.com and look up both. I'd say that the ks8000 is better, 8500D might just take the lead in sports but this TV is considered the best before you get into OLED

    • Maybe think about throwing the Hisense 7000 into your choices. It's overlooked due to not having the big brand name but have seen some really good reviews for it. This particular one makes a bold statement of it beating Samsung's entire range!!
      http://www.goodgearguide.com.au/article/604431/review-hisens…

      • +2

The Hisense 7000 can't compare to either the Sony or Samsung when it comes to HDR. Those two are HDR premium (over 1,000 nits) the Hisense has a peak of 385 nits. The Samsung is a far better TV, the Hisense is good, and had a great price advantage, but not with these prices now.

        • Totally agree re HDR however the rtings review of Samsung KS8000 was up there (best of 2016) but they made comment on the HDR specifically that although it started high it was unable to maintain it and dropped to around 600. The HDR is just one feature of many to think about. My knowledge is all review based (and sadly done more than I care to recently), so cannot comment from an "expert" POV. Was just throwing the Hisense out there as another option. Their 3 year warranty over a 1 year from the rest is also a nice touch. Almost pulled the trigger on a 65" recently due to price point but now it's all up in the air.

        • @OldKing:

Hadn't noticed the warranty period, but that almost accounts for nothing these days with Aus Consumer law trumping everything.

  • Wow great price on a great TV :)

  • I got it for $1850 couple weeks ago! Damnn. Highly recommended this TV (unless you are after a BIGGER size).

    • Did you buy from Good Guys? You may be in luck if you act fast . Try the 30 day price guarantee. https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/30-day-price-guarantee

      • Thanks. Unfortunately bought it from JB.

        • next time buy it with a CC that has insurance and price protection.

        • Didn't know about that. Will do it next time. Thanks.

  • How much is the cheapest LG or Samsung OLED monitor?

I intend to make everything in my place OLED. Still waiting on my OLED thinkpad Yoga. GOt my S7 edge.

    • My idea is to try to avoid OLED due to its material nature - they wear out much quicker than the LED LCD (depend on your usage but again, LCD is still last longer)… unless you want to have an upgrade in years time.

TV shouldn't be a consumable product - even if OLED TV gets the same price as LCD, I would pick the later one.

Mobile phone would be OK because you gonna change it within 2 years normally.

      • My idea is to try to avoid OLED due to its material nature - they wear out much quicker than the LED LCD

Please stop perpetuation an issue that doesn't exist. Yes, it has a shorter lifespan, as did plasma, however there is the real world practically of it. Let's take the old shortest claimed operation life of 20,000 hours, that is 4.5 years at 12 hrs per day, clearly not something that is going to happen, so it's 9 years at 6 hrs per day, still not reality. But those numbers are based on the low ball original versions.
As the OLED lifespan is now up to 100,000, which is 22.83 years at 12 hrs per day, there is no issue.

        • Where do you get those figures from? From manufactures or independent sources? How did they run their test and under what condition?

        • +1

          @bjdchwr:

Various articles on the internet, and from the manufacturer.

The 100,000 claim is by LG, where they used to claim 30,000-50,000 hrs in their warranty guidelines, that is to "half brightness" not actual end of life.

This was the same type of claim made against plasma, and again, the reality of it was that it just won't be an issue for consumers, for industry that may have panels running 24/7, yes that could be a problem.

What are you claiming the operational life of OLED screens is exactly?

        • I am not arguing about the improvements - but OLED's lifespan is still a worrying factor. There are numbers of reddit discussion related to this topic.

Also, I am not a stranger about this issue - I am speaking from my real-life experience with OLED display.

I've already got 2 small OLED display died from Livescribe smartpen so I would definitely avoid to buy it.

        • @snuke:

          Well let's trust the manufacture's claim then…

Every salesman I've talked to about an OLED TV has made it very clear that burn in is possible and how to easily avoid it. They also admit they don't do any of it in the stores, just play the demo content usually with a static logo in one corner.

          One quick search..

        • @bjdchwr:

I've already got 2 small OLED display died from Livescribe smartpen so I would definitely avoid to buy it.

Are you kidding, this is a basis for passing on a completely different item? How about the millions of OLED screens on phones performing as intended for years?

I go back to the question you didn't answer - What are you claiming the operational life of OLED screens is exactly?

I am familiar with that Reddit thread you posted to. I am not disputing a shorter life, nor possible image retention issues, but how a panel is used in a commercial environment versus a home, are vastly different. Burn seems to have been fixed with a firmware upgrade for older models, and from what little I have read, now considered fixed on the current model year.

        • @snuke:

I am also talking about the real-life situation. Not the Mean time before failure (or 50% of the brightness in other claims) - that's an unreal number. I am just kind of curiosity, why are you taking claiming the operational life so seriously?

I am not disputing a shorter life, nor possible image retention issues, but how a panel is used in a commercial environment versus a home, are vastly different. Burn seems to have been fixed with a firmware upgrade for older models, and from what little I have read, now considered fixed on the current model year.

Bingo, you got it! Let's see whether it will be fixed in the near future.

Not to mention, my Livescribe pen haven't been used for anything close to 1,000 hours before it died. The screen usually gets itself turned off after couple of minutes of inactivity…
          Not just me

To be honest, I am unaware of this issue (or I just don't care about this just before my smartpen issues). Soon after that, I started digging the fact out (I am a electronic hobbits).

It seems the organic material inside the OLED screen is possibly sensitive to its surroundings - heats, moisture, lights etc.

In comparison, all of my workplace LCD screens (LED or older ccfl 15-inch) still work except some of the capacitors were leaked and make the device unusable (power itself on/off or flickering due to the self-discharge)… In my conclusion, the LCD has been proven reliable.

I would think the OLED would die before the electronic components wear out. I am not taking lightening strike or other quality control into consideration of course…

OLED screen has its own pros for using it as a mobile phone or wearable display:
          * not so many people keep scrolling and watching screen for hours
          * it has a great contrast for outdoors (but sometimes the color is far too saturated)
          * it saves battery life
HOWEVER, some of the owners have suffered from the screen burn or aging issues with some of the Samsung models.

I am having a Apple Watch but I am quite sure it's a consumable product - I will change it within a year or two, PLUS I have no other choice in iOS eco-system.

but I think its defects outweigh its benefits for TV up till this stage.

        • @bjdchwr:

You are still to put any quantifiable number to your short life span claim.

        • @snuke:

          Did I ever mention that?

I only made a comparison between LCD and OLED…

The reason I didn't give you a number or a figure is there is no trustworthy data available, but all of the current feedback from consumers' side would draw a simple conclusion - OLED wears out quicker than LCD under similar usage.

Also I am not convinced the figure from manufacture.

I had worked with a marketing team and I am not surprised they use some of the statements beyond actual capabilities of a product (or they put a bit of shady statement in small font or somewhere hidden on their website).

        • @bjdchwr:

I only made a comparison between LCD and OLED…

Yes, but without stating if the period is relevant to a consumer, it's just a statement with no data.

      • My idea is to try to avoid OLED due to its material nature

        That's nonsense.

I'll just buy another one. I'm not living on a pension.

Why would LG charge so much for a TV that has a short lifespan? If it lasts for 5+ years, then I'm happy to pay $5000.

        • Well, it's your choice. Would it last 5 years under 6-8 hours of usage? Mmmmm, it's too early to tell… From manufacture's point of view, you are funding their research project…not too bad in my opinion…

Also, it's not about whether you are rich or not - this is definitely out of the topic.

PS: Please read my statement carefully, I am not forcing you to buy or not to buy anything and it is my own opinion. I think next time I really need to put a paragraph of disclaimer underneath.

I am not on a pension as well :-) I am just another OZBarginer.

          Happy Christmas Shopping!

  • Sold. Thanks.

  • Hi all just silly question to ask this not the curved screen is it. just want to confirm thanks

    • Nope, not curved.

  • +1

Great TV and price wish I could justify the purchase.

  • Samsung KS8000 is mint, been waiting since I spent ages researching (best non OLED TV) for it to go on sale & $1000 off is awesome!

    • Agreed. I bought it in October for $1990 and claimed 36000 velocity frequent flyer points from Samsung. Awesome TV!

      • That's still a good price. The salesman @ HN tried to sell it to me last week for $2220. Lucky I didn't buy it, especially with the new price now! I ended up with the LGUH770T. I got that for $1640. Not too bad considering that it was $1795 last week and now its $1695. Not much discount for the LG. IMO the Samsung has a better picture but I hate the legs on each end. I am not sure if the Samsung supports Dolby Vision though. Cheers

        • LG is the only local supplier of Dolby Vision TVs. Their OLEDs are highly rated but their LCDs are not.

        • @snuke:

I am using mine as a PC Monitor and I can tell you it looks awesome. 55" is an overkill however I do have to space for it and there is no point forking out if not the same amount for a minuscule 30" monitor that has the same resolution and it will hard to tell the difference from my 27" 1440p monitor. I run games (Just Cause 3) with the GTX1080 @ 4096 x 2160 on game mode and runs smoothly. At the time, the Samsung was selling for $2495/$2220 (with their discount) @ HN hence I have purchased this one. If I purchased the Samsung and then I have seen this special, I would be pretty devastated especially if HN doesn't refund the difference. The OLED is way superior in picture quality however I wasn't going to spend twice the cash for it knowing that in a year or so, it will plummet like the rest of them. The picture quality of the KS8000 is not doubt better than the LG, however it doesn't have an IPS panel and I wanted for only a gaming monitor. Watching movies will be second best. I will leave that to my Epson EHTW9200W @ 120" viewed 8 meters away :-)

  • Does anyone know if this will fit in a Camry in its original box ?

  • When does this deal end?

  • Wow what a great deal I paid $1900 on TGG eBay sale and been using it with the Xbox one S it is an amazing TV for the price

    • Not sure if possible but try the 30 day price guarantee. https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/30-day-price-guarantee

      • They said they cant do it as it is from eBay. I thought prices "against" ebay is the one not allowed :(

        • Yeah they will always try to squirm out of it I guess. Ask them to show you the clause they are referring to.

  • Does anyone know if this (in its box) fits into back seat or boot of a small sedan, like Holden Astra? Or I need a bigger car?

  • 50 % standard cashback…anybody has any idea on this?

    • +1

Not applicable, nothing to do with Harvey Norman retail.

  • My parents bought this TV from The Good guys about 2 weeks ago for around the $2000 mark. Thinking of letting them know about the 30 day price beat guarantee that TGG offer but unsure if TGG are likely to squirm out of any refund somehow and basically making my parents feel like they got ripped if it doesn't get accepted. They bought it after their old TV got damaged by lightning and got some insurance on it, but the new TV could only be purchased at a couple of different stores that their insurer defined (JB, TGG and I think one other store).

What are people's experience with claiming back a refund on the difference? Is this particular TV at HN likely to have a minutely different product code or something compared to TGG's?

    • +1

The Good Guys refund claim page wont accept my parent's docket number, so guessing it's because the "customer" on the docket is actually their insurer and therefore they are classed as "corporate".

    • +1

Got my sister to followup in person at the Good Guys store and she managed to get them to honour the price guarantee, not sure if she got the full amount back for my parents but if anyone else is in the same boat then its certainly worth going in store to have a chat with staff.

A few tips with this TV.

    1) When attaching the feet, take note of the left and right wording on the TV itself which is easy to overlook (it may be L + R, cant remember) and match to the symbols on the feet. For some reason Samsung decided to swap left and right around and it's only correct on the TV if you are looking at the back of the TV and not the front (does that make sense?) Seemed fairly illogical to me.

    2) If you are attempting to connect an older video device via the crappy old RCA AV composite inputs, you need to first attach the breakout cable BUT make sure that you also do not have the component breakout cable attached at the same time (even if nothing is attached to that component cable). The composite input wont be recognised if component breakout is attached as component seems to steal one of the RCA inputs from AV composite. Long story short, you cant have both a component AND a composite device attached at the same time, crappy decision by Samsung on that one and gave me a bit of a headache trying to figure out why an old PVR seemingly wouldn't work on AV composite.

    3) There doesn't appear to be an easily accessible USB port on the side or bottom of the TV, there is at least one at the back (and several on the external box).

    4) The TV has very few inputs on the body of the TV itself, a secondary box is plugged in to the TV via a single cable and this box contains the majority of the inputs. I don't think there is even a HDMI or aerial input on the TV itself. So if you lose that box or damage the cable then you have a big problem. Good for wall mounting I guess though as reduces visible cables up the wall.

    5) On my parents TV, the external acrylic screen produces somewhat distorted reflections, meaning its not perfectly flat. This doesn't affect the image quality however.

    6) There seems to be only 1 button on the TV itself and my father (late 70's) found it frustrating to figure out how to even press it (you need to reach under and click the button towards you), then hold it in for moving between settings.

    7) TV comes with 2 different types of remotes, one is very mimimalist and has some form of voice control that requires a network (maybe internet too? Not 100% sure as my parents don't have internet or a wifi network). The other remote is a regular multibutton model.

    • Thanks heaps. Any ideas on how many HDMI it has all up?

Edit: I should rephrase. On the actual body of the TV itself?

      • I seem to remember it has no HDMI on the TV body, but if Im wrong on that then it would be only one at most. It has a network connection and at last one USB on the TV body itself if I recall correctly.

      • +1

Checked again today and can confirm that the back has a single USB, Network, Service port, One Connect port for the external boxc and no HDMI or aerial socket.

          Thanks mate - appreciate it.

  • Anyone know how this would Compare to Sony KD55X8500D at the same price? Ps4 Pro gaming and upscaling of crappy content are important to me. And if I am mistaken, the Samsung has the pointless gimmick of being curved, which may not be good if I am Wall mounting it :)

    • +2

This TV is probably the best LCD of 2016, wouldn't hesitate to get it over the Sony.

65" version of this tv @hardly normal $2488 good deal?

    • Samsung UA65KS800w

A couple deals at other retailers for similar prices, JB deals for $2496 seems fairly popular, some comments in there and the Videopro deal. It was $3100ish a few months back.

    • it's a great deal for the 55" and 65"

65" version x 68 pieces were sold between 9am-2pm today @ Marsden Park JBHIFI

    • I ordered it this morning for pickup from my local but i reckon they sold all the stock as i have not gotten an email to collect it. They are happy to take the money though.

      • 65 and 55 all sold out in perth northern suburb stores end up finding a good guys which have the 55 instock… I snatch it straight away for $1480.

Amazing TV, picked one up this morning in Castle Hill, they had 30 left. Screen is superb, really impressed. My first Samsung too, always had Sony before and i have no regrets after using it for the day.

    • Me too,im really impressed. I wish the aerial socket was at the back on the tv when you have the power and aerial wall socket behind the tv when mounted. Its much cleaner looking. Thats my only grip otherwise love it. 👌

  • Just picked one up today and it's made in Vietnam 😐

Set mine up this afternoon. Absolutely blown away by the picture. Its actually freakishly weird how good the picture is and it has this weird realistic depth of field to it that ive never seen on a TV before. Bezels are so small, its almost like there is just a floating picture on your loungeroom. This TV is seriously one to impress your friends with. I always get some sort of buyers remorse when i get a new piece of tech and pay for a higher end style model. But this has been 100% worth the money and im so glad i went with this over the lower end of the TV spectrum.

  • Picked one up yesterday and like the picture on Netflix etc but over HDMI i find it is blocky. Never had a problem with my old TV.
Does anyone know if a better HDMI cable would fix the problem? As far as i know the one i have is a few years old and pretty cheap.

    • A HDMI cable is a cable is a cable. It's digital, it works or it doesnt.

      • Thanks. More referring to HDMI 1.4 vs 2.0, High-Speed etc.

    • What is the HDMI cable connected to?

  • Most stores in Vic are backorder now Chirnside and fountain gate still have stock, Knox is out, not sure about stores in the west. HN will hold that price with deposit and back order.

  • Is this hdr-10 compliant? Assuming it is. Does anyone know the length of the breakout cable? Cheers

    • It's short maybe 1m

  • Kambos has it for $1495 with free delivery for those in Perth, works out cheaper if you need delivery as HN charge $49 for delivery. Kambos also pricebeat or offer 130% refund of the difference. Link here: https://www.kambos.com.au/samsung-55-suhd-led-tv-ks8000-8-se…

  • Can anyone check if there were able to get an AA02 panel? Version should be written on the back. https://www.google.com.au/search?q=aa02+fa01&oq=aa02+fa01&aq…

  • This TV sold out pretty quick from HN & JB Hi-Fi already. Damn!

  • i have the 65" and there is a line of light on the top that bleeds through ( its the light and n ot actual light - not noticeable on black bar ratio but full screen 16:9)… very annoying and will be getting a replacement in new year :(

  • Let it too late for Harvey Norman and Bing Lee as the prices have reverted to $2495 for the 55 inch.
Managed to secure a price match at Appliances Online for $1499 (+ $49 del) matching against 2nds world which is still showing $1499.

Backorder with del expected in about 10 days.

    • Sorry, what is the name of the business that's still showing $1499? And do you know what the delivery cost of HN & Bing Lee were? I wanted to buy it from JB Hi-Fi, but they sold out too quick, and I bought a fridge from AO, so I thought to wait little longer before I pull the trigger. Not sure if similar prices will return any time during the first half of the year, or before the next models are released.

Edit: Sorry, I've just Googled it, and realized 2ndsworld is the name of the business. Never heard about them before, I being in Adelaide town. :)

      • yes correct it was 2ndsworld - not sure if that helps in Adelaide
