Need opinions - Going to buy the Sony Bravia 65" X7500D Series Ultra HD LED LCD Smart TV 4k tomorrow (KD65X7500D)

Hey ozzy b's! Looking to buy the KD65X7500D Sony 65" 4k TV tomorrow.

Im sure it will be pretty damn good, but my 2 questions are:

1) Anyone played games on this? EG BF1 via xbox etc? I absolutely hate motion blur in crap TV brands!
2) When it comes to blacks does it all look awesome? Ive been told the Samsung TV's show blacks etc heaps better but whenever i look at a Bravia they appear epic.

Thanks team! Its a lot of cash so just wanted a few opinions :)

  • Where are you buying and what price? I'm also in the market and was looking at it. Thanks

harvey norman and jbhifi both have them for $1795 at the moment, so cheap! Just didnt want to spend that on a TV if it looked like junk with fast moving content

      • that price from sony too, so maybe harvey/jb can be better than what sony sells them for.

  • sony has the 8500 on a good price too http://store.sony.com.au/tvhometheatre-tv-4khdr

    • Very true, but costs another $500 just for the next series

  • I'm doing the same thing, I'm tossing up between the samsung ku6000 for the same price or the hisense m7000 65" hdr uled because I can prob get a bigger discount on it because of a mate at Harveys. Now I know the Sony is the same price not sure which of the 3 now… Display lag is also important for me for bf1…

    • That's the same boat I'm in! I do love my Samsung gear but really want something that also has an android os

      • I think the samsung runs tizen. Now I found the LG is the same price as well so there are four tvs now that are competing at this same price point with a Panasonic coming in $200 more with Firefox os so 5. I want to sideload apks on android because I want hulu on it as well easily not sure if you can do that to the non android Samsungs…

        • +1

Yeah apk for sideloading will have to be an android tv I believe. So I'm thinking the Sony would be good

  • is this the same 750 not 7500), I think it is. Video games and HDR gaming is pretty good
    http://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/sony/x750d

    • Nah I believe it's different. Product number is different too

  • Is only difference between x7500d vs x8500 the edge led?

All of these UHD HDR 65" $1795 and I cant split them so not sure what I'm going to do…

The Sony with big price cut:
Has android, I want to side load hulu etc easily and also watch those free sports streaming apps that can be found on android play store in 5 mins: https://www.jbhifi.com.au/tv-home-entertainment/hd-televisio…

Samsung ku6000 with big price cut: http://www.harveynorman.com.au/tv-blu-ray-home-theatre/tvs/t…

The Hisense m7000 65" not on special and usually cheaper than the others and although hisense made a great model this time that I would buy in a heartbeat if the others were at normal price, but because they are on special you just cant compete with the upscalers and colour reproduction that the premium brands have always had over the cheapeies, I will buy this if my mate at harvies can give me a big discount. BUT runs viddaa smart TV not sure what this is based on maybe android or opera TV, If I get it cheap I'll just keep using my win 10 media centre and/or kodi/plex: http://www.harveynorman.com.au/tv-blu-ray-home-theatre/tvs/t…

Th LG same discount as the Samsung and Sony but runs firefox OS, I love firefox browser but the tv OS its untested for me…: https://www.jbhifi.com.au/tv-home-entertainment/hd-televisio…

  • another dillema I have is the 55" samsung UHD HDR is $990 or something and these are $1795 can I do without the extra 10 inch difference and save $700-800 it sounds like a no brainer doesnt it, and with the money save you could prob get a virtual suround sound bar of decent quality instead of listening through the tinny speakers. (This will be a kitchen/Loungeroom TV for daily use so dont wanna get surround speakers for these, I already have a projector in the theatre room with surround sound speaker setup). I had the tape measure out and the diff from my dead 42" to 55" was huge but the jump from 55" to 65" was really marginal. I'll just have to go in to JBhifi tomorrow I guess to suss it out…

  • Hey there.

I'd go x8500 or Samsung ks8000. The Samsung 55 inch is currently a whole 1k off at jb, perhaps their 65s have a big discount too? Have a look at rtings.com. The model you're looking at doesn't have a wide colour gamut, average contrast, and low brightness levels, so if colour is a priority you might want to consider that for future proofing. With the native 120hz refresh rate, you won't experience motion blur from anything that is native 4k. However, with all video that is below 4k, the upscaling will result in this motion phenomenon called "soap opera effect", it's quite apparent for a lot of video content that's upscaled. The 7500 does appear to have remarkably low input lag, best way to test it is to take your console in and ask to test it on the TV. I did that a couple months back and they were more than happy to let me try. For the best future proofing I'd check to see the tv is UHD premium certified. All the best! And merry Xmas everyone!

    • I think you're right all the above tv's (The 65" ones) are just a level below UHD premium. I think I might settle for 55" which when I measured wasn't TOO much smaller than the 65" and future proof myself with UHD premium. Some sony's tv dont display the logo because even though sony sat on the uhd premium alliance table and alot of their tv meet the futureproof spec they want to do their own thing.

  • So what did you decide?

I'm ready to press the button on the Sony.

    • I got the Sony! And so far it absolutely rocks! Any questions I can answer let me know!

      • Same, also pulled the pin. Took a while to set up, but very happy so far 👍

Need to fine tune the display settings.

  • I have the Sony kd-65x8504a.
First thing. check the screen during the blanking period between movie scenes. Is it all black or looks like patchy blacks with blobs of lighter black. That is really annoying. And a known problem in the 8504.A $4000 tv. I am not talking about NO SIGNAL black level but blacks during video blanking periods.
Next if you decide to go into colour adjustment/calibration. Check if you have full color control. My green is way out and there is no adjustment. Sony said just use hue control.. Never works that way.
Push for 3 year warranty. My main board died last month after 2&half years.
2 weeks later & $683, working again. BUT the board they used now says it is
kd-55x8504. No doubt same board shared among both tvs.
Going to follow that up with Sony in the new year

    Gaming was ok on ps3.

Although I must say, upscaling to 4k is indeed brilliant on this tv.

    • Sound advice I'll have to check that :) I went with the Sony and so far it's been amazing. Just connecting my one s up to it and I'll see just how good the hdr and 4k rendering is when playing a game (I'll test with bf1)

Probably too late now, but here it goes anyway….

When buying a TV decide on panel quality and picture processing capabilities first. Don't place much value on the "Smart" part of the TV. Whatever OS and apps you will get on the TV at purchase time will be obsolete in under 12 months and easily upgraded by hooking up an external box for a fraction of the TV price. You'll always be stuck with the black levels, colour accuracy, backlighting, etc. You can't upgrade those without replacing the entire TV.

    • +1

It's funny you say that because that's why I went with the Sony. Their panels have always looked fantastic to the eye and for the most part seem like a solid build. Plus the android OS helped tip the scales as I wanted to run a few specific apps natively on the tv. It's been feature Ritch, super light (weight) and I haven't found a flaw (yet!)

    • I agree 100%. I've always bought very cheap PC's off of ebay and put a $50 cheap graphics card that can push 1080p/ 4k and can decode HEVC at least. The last 1080p PC I bought of ebay was $20 ! and works great on windows 10. Windows 10 as a HTPC will forever be FAR superior to any smart TV and the good thing with a pc its infinitely customisable and doesn't restrict you in any way (EG the samsung TV I just bought is kind of region locked like most are and if I want to install Hulu I change it to america install hulu, but as soon as I change it back to australia hulu gets uninstalled so frustrating)

  • I ended up pulling the pin on the a UHD Premium Samsung ks8005 60". As the user neighswan wrote above I went with a UHD Premium to future proof my display (http://www.forbes.com/sites/erikkain/2016/11/10/heres-what-t…)Its has tizen instead of android and even though it performs well as a smart TV, as I've written above a cheap Win10 PC with a 4k video card and off you go. I'm happy with the purchase even though it's 5" smaller than the ones I was looking at previously. Here a picture of the rig with HTPC win 10 style full screen start menu http://imgur.com/a/BYGvM

I too nearly went the samsung! The blacks on the samsung look awesome too. But to my eyes the motion rate on the Bravia just seemed so much sharper. I also ran a PC behind my previous TV so that I could customize everything, but i grew tired of having multiple remotes, different inputs and sometimes Windows 10 cracking the sads for some reason. This way with the sony Ive been able to load Kodi, install a custom build then stream everything I want simply from the TV remote, works a treat! I think regardless of which one someone picked (samsung or sony) they would be very happy.

Also i bought the logitech K830 as well which works with everything on the TV, even games! http://www.logitech.com/en-au/product/living-room-keyboard-k…

Merry Christmas to everyone that got a new TV haha

    • P.S Love the way the tiles etc look on your HTPC!

      • My 2 year old did all of that. She's 4 now and I left it there as a memory of when she was younger lol makes me smile when I see it…

        • Haha good effort for 2! If it's functionall and has a sentimental meaning . . Why not!

    • Hi MyResolve - I am leaning towards 8005. How it has been in your opinion? Any reason you bought this in comparison to say the 8000 model?

      • The 8000 is the 55" model 8005 is 60" they are identical. Image is very bright I have a very well lit lounge. Blacks could be better but if you look at the rtings website you will see the samsung rates favourably against the rest…..

  • Bought the Sony tv from Jb on Boxing Day morning, then left for a family trip at lunch time,. Haha going home today, so excited now to un box this tv!!!

    • I'm sure you're going to love it! Went with the 65"? It's day 5 for mine and Im simply blown away!

  • Just so everyone knows, this TV is on sale at Costco for $1699 until 2/1/2017

Hi, I am also looking for a 65jnch Uhd tv, between Sony and Samsung. For a non tech what will be the best tv
    Thanks

    • If you plan on connecting it to the internet and if you have a android phone then get the Sony as the additional functionality is easy to use. Otherwise if price is more important go for the cheapest one you can get.

  • just bought a Sony X9300D 65" from Harvey Norman. Their online price is $4195 but in store it was $3495 which must have been an error…the sales rep and manager shit themselves when they saw the price tag and took it down before anyone else bought one. JB-Hi Fi had them for $1000 more and The Good Guys for a very decent price at $3790 and Sony online have them for $3999. Gets delivered on Wed, can't wait!

    • Oldest trick in the book, what a bunch of used car salesmen. Tell us which store it was so I can avoid them.

Its been as low as $3196 at JB and even less elsewhere.

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/272467

      • Maybe so, but the current prices are far from the prices in that link and we still got it much cheaper then the competition.

  • Did you ever find out what's the difference between the x7500 and the x8500? Is it worth the extra $500?

    • Not sure on the differences, I ended up going the X7500 and it hasnt let me down in a single example yet. I thought from what people said that the "blacks" wouldnt be great and that I should go the samsung, yet here i am with the x7500 and loving it. Maybe someone can explain the difference between the x7500 and x8500? Obviously its a series 8 instead of series 7 but is it worth the extra cash

  • I bought Sony Bravia KD55X9300D at JB-Hifi around end of October last year, but after 100 days it is stopped working. Call JB-Hifi but they said I need to call Sony since it is already more than 3 months. Then I called Sony and the engineer that came couple days later said that the power supply board inside the TV is broken and need to be replace. I request to get new TV replacement but Sony only can provide repair because Sony said it consider old already (more than 30 days). I really disappointed. My friend bough which consider low end brand with similar specification one month before me and his TV still works until now. His TV cheaper than me.

Went to JB and had a good chat with someone who seemed to know alot about new TV tech, basic basic rundown/ conclusion was:
-LG's new AMOLED TV's have the best/ richest blacks (can confirm, they look amazing) but interface isn't the best on the TV
-Samsung's have the best and purest whites, also can confirm
-Sony's new HDR is good but it's colour representation neither meets those blacks or whites of the other two however AndroidTV is great.

    • Sounds like a salesman who actually understands what they are selling haha. LG certanly looked amazing but without the android OS it didnt fit my needs. The first thing I did with my new Sony is intergrate my android devices and install modified streaming sources so that I can do away with my media PC. its a 10/10 TV. Watched 4k, streamed heaps from the internet and used a heap of USB devices all working a treat. All I say to people now when they ask is "go in store, play some stuff you're interested in and see which one blows you away".
