I'd like to use a < 43" TV as a PC monitor. Not for gaming, just for OzBargain and spreadsheets and VLC and whatnot.

Would any of these not suck for that purpose?

    • +2

I use a 7 year old 40 inch Sony LCD TV 1080P as my monitor and I game on it. I sit 80cm away from it and I don't care if I can see some pixels. The sheer size is worth it. I'd like to upgrade to a proper monitor, but it's too expensive for the size I want.

    • +2

get the phillips 40" or the new 43" really you dont want to use a TV as a monitor…

      • Nah, I'm fine with the "it sucks" answer. 40" monitors are out of my price range. I'll stick with my two 24"ers.

  • earlier deal had the Sony 55" 9000C for around $1100 cant seem to find the same Tv at the same price

  • +1

any reviews on the Sony X7000D?

  • This was posted 2 hours ago then deleted as a dupe? Confused..

    • 20% off post was deleted as a dupe, nothing wrong with posting up actual examples

  • tossing between these
    Sony KDL65W850C 65" FHD Android Smart 3D LED TV $1598 (Save $900)(jbhifi.com.au)
LG 65UH652T 65" 4K UHD HDR Smart LED LCD TV $1996(jbhifi.com.au)

    any thought?

    • +1

Sony 850C. Great reviews at http://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/sony/x850c

    • +1

Steer clear from the LG. There is a thread in whirlpool and on Ozbargain about how that particular model suffers from Dirty Screen Effect.

    • +1

I got the Sony from the last 20% ebay - good guys. Very happy with it. Android system is a plus. Image is very good too.

  • Any views on which of the Sony 7000D or Panasonic X600U 55" models are better (given they are same price and size)?

    • +1

Get the Hisense for the same price. The Hisense has HDR, the others do not.

    • Tossing up between the same two models as well.

Thy guy at JB was trying to steer my towards the Hisense on the weekend. Claimed that it was led backlit and not edgelit which meant better contrast - upon reading reviews it seems only the larger models are backlit and the 55" is still edgelit.

The JB guy compared the Hisense to Samsungs 8000 series - the guy at TGG said that was a bit of stretch, but still acknowledged the Hisense punches well above its weight.

The picture on the Sony (at TGG) looked pale in comparison, but that could have been their settings - it seemed fine when demoed at other stores.

  • The 65" LG OLED displays look nice.

What is the $1200 difference between these two?

    $5198

    $6398
    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/tv-home-entertainment/hd-televisio…

    • The E6T model has 3D and Time Machine Compatible or HDD Recording.

      • Thanks. Never watched 3D on my current 3d TV, so that's not going to change any time soon.

I can do without HDD recording for $1200!!

        • Then buy the cheaper model.

      • Actually. The difference is that the E6 comes with a built in Soundbar, whereas the B6 does not have a soundbar. it uses harman kardon internal speakers. That's the big difference actually. So if you don't have your own sound system at home, go for the E6. The soundbar pack a huge punch.

    • +1

If you game, the 'B' has high lag input.

  • Argh, can't decide between these:

    Panasonic DX900 65":
    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/tv-home-entertainment/hd-televisio…

    LG OLED 55":
    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/tv-home-entertainment/hd-televisio…

Any opinions about which one to get?

    • +1

I would go with DX900. Probably the best non-OLED TV available at the moment. 65 inch is the minimum size for me.

    • +2

Go the OLED. The smaller size is easily compensated by the better OLED picture quality.

    • +5

OLED knocks out basically anything else for quality. Go the OLED.

    • +1

Besides the obvious superior image quality on the OLED you also get much better viewing angles than the LCD. No 3D though if that matters to you and there seems to be some issues with that particular model on playback with high quality HDR sources(pending release of a firmware update).

      • +1

Maybe just me but i wouldn't waste a dime on OLED just yet. LG has quality issues and OLED brightness still some improvement before it'll really take off (well, price lowering too) to be a real living room competitor.

        • By the time it gets better QLED will be out anyway.

  • Hdr? Does it really matter? Just want a semi decent TV for the folks.

    • +3

if you want semi decent for folks, Non-HDR is fine. HDR just improves the dark/bright scenes for better clarity.

      • Ah ok thanks, they just need a on/off button channel and volume button and there happy hehe

    • At least get UHD So look at Models like Panasonic 55dx600u & LG 55uh652t

      • +1

No point in UHD unless they watch UHD blu-rays really. Australia isn't getting UHD FTA broadcast this century lol. 4K Netflix is not really any better than 1080p blu-rays either.

        • Yes but it's the future tech so might as well future proof their TV, more and more content is coming out so it's there to watch

        • @TRENT86: While I would generally agree, there is no chance of any FTA being 4K in the next decade or 2, so like I said, unless they are into UHD blu-rays or play video games there is really no point.

        • @MrFunSocks: Yeah I guess if all they watch is FTA Then it's pointless, we prob won't even see FHD FTA in the next decade.

    • Should be fine without, but if I was getting one of the new consoles coming out I would grab a 10bit HDR panel.

If you are looking for the Sony X7000D 55" 4K UHD HDR Android Smart LCD LED TV ($1198.40) in the title i'd recommend you get this one instead:

Sony X8500D 55" 4K UHD HDR Android Smart LED LCD TV ($1598.40)

It's the new 2016 model and fully supports the new Ultra HD Premium standard which will give it full HDR support

    • +1

Bought my TV through Sony/EB, but from a quick research 2016 models seem to be held in higher regard and worth the extra cost

    • Sony X8500D is very good but I don't think its 20% off. Regardless price is good.
Harvey Norman also has it for same price on website as JB.

  • I am overwhelmed with choice.

Which 55" UHD tv should I get?

I don't need 3D, does NOT need to be OLED

    Budget <$2000

  • Looking for a good 55" UHD… trying to decide between Samsung KS8000 and Sony X9300D
Is the Samsung worth the extra dollars?

  • Anyone know if the Hitachi TV's are any good? I'm aware that Hitachi no longer make them internally, other than maybe some of the components. I believe other groups in china and/or japan now put them together. Also wondering what the warranty is on them.

  • Looks like Goodguys have price matched JB's prices with this sale also.

Tempted to get a Samsung KS9000W.

    • Good guys isn't being advertised publicly is it?

    • sony.com.au is selling 9300d for 1999$ so the price drop actually came from Sony.

  • I've been watching Sony Bravia 55" X9300D - and Harvey Norman dropped the price too.

  • +2

Good Guys has the same deal, a bit cheaper on some items:

    https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/tv-sale?utm_source=Experian&u…

  • Hmm. I'm currently in the market, and really considering the Sony X7000D. Main purpose for me is gaming, and watching movies/sport. I'll be buying a soundbar for the audio, but really just want a tv that will be clear and decent for gaming. What do you guys think about the X7000D?

  • I am checking SONY 55 inch 9300D(1998 in JB),and found it is 1999 from Sony Australia and 1998 from Harvey Norman too.

  • 9300D is a fantastic tv, had it for a week, did not wall mount it because we live in a rental property, daughter pushed it off table now damage, cost for repair $1583…..yeah FML

    • Did you ask your landlord if you could wall mount?

My tenants wanted to wall mount their tv and I allowed it. Everyone that has lived there to date has had their tv in the same location as it is the best spot in the room for the tv, so I figured that if the facility was there then the next tenant can wall mount if they wish too - most people have a flatscreen tv these days and a lot of brackets are fairly universal.

  • Someone mentioned that the Sony X9300D has high input lag (not good for gaming). What I don't get is why Sony TVs have this problem when Sony makes gaming consoles. Surely they would want their TVs to have good gaming performance.

    • Apparently they released a new update a couple of days ago to improve it, but I haven't seen any feedback from someone who's tried it.

  • any stand outs int he 55-65 under 1.5k ? i dont know what all the models mean or to compere them, id be interested in knowing.

    • I've heard the best are Samsung 9000s/8000s other than that Sony X850D and 930D and also Hisense Series 7.

    • Check out the LG UH652, great TV for price. If you're not convinced, go in store and have a play with their magic remote. Comparing to the samsung equivalent, the pictuer you get will be almost identical, but this remote makes a hell of a difference if you're gonna be playing with your TV's smart features.

So I bought the OLED65B6T from Good Guys 29 days ago for $5800(plus a $300 eftpos card bonus

Good Guys eBay promo last week for $5095 they would not honour the prime match promise as their own store

Send an online price match form this morning, with JB price screenshot of $5198

Email response this afternoon approved so 120% of the invoice different is approx $660 in store credit.

Now to find something to spend the free money on!

    • Correction, just received the confirmed amount, $842 difference!

      • Anything above $50 can be claimed back as an EFTPOS card. That should be much easier to spend on!

    • I thought the 300$ eftpos card bonus was limited to the SUPER UHD range, not OLED or UHD

      • I think it was 65 inch or larger promo? I can't remember now

        • I'm a Brand Rep for LG, and i'm pretty sure it's only for Super UHD's .. but hey if you do get the eftpos card, that's another $300 for you ;)

        • @jaackyy:

I just checked it was a "PAY LESS payback" eftpos card promotion, which was good guys, not LG

          So have I done well? $5800, less $300, less $842 = $4658??

        • @berger: Sounds like a pretty damn good bargain to me. That smashes this JB deal .. never thought I'd see anyone get the 65 inch B6T for less than 5.5k…. that's unebelievable tbh.. Good score !

        • used my store credit on a kitchenaid mixer with ice cream bowl bonus, price matched $649 from ES trading, and a few other items. All this thanks to the JB promo :)

  • Don't buy curved TVs unless you're really into curved stuff…

  • Setting up a media room next year and I'm looking at 80" 3D 4K HDR OLED TV that doesn't cost a fortune.

    • +2

Man, in my opinion a 55" OLED costs a fortune. Can't even imagine how much an 80" OLED would cost.

      • +1

I'm not buying till July next year after my new house is built, so maybe by the 65" OLEDs are a good price and bigger ones are available.

        • +1

Yeah you should be able to grab a good bargain on a 65" OLED next year. I would probably suggest wait till the 2017 models are announced and then keep an eye out for price drops on the 2016 models…unless you want a 2017 model!

    • There's a 80inch OLED ?

      • No, 77" inch is. I just want 80" inch at a low cost, can you make it happen?

Hopefully mid next year at 70" will be at a reasonable cost, and 80"+ will be available to drool over.

        • +1

HAHAHA I'll try my best to find out if they're going to push anything OLED's bigger than 65 inch but 80 does sound quite big for a TV not many people know about yet. OLED is still fairly new so I think they're just trying to push the product out there for now. Will let you know if I do hear about plans for anything bigger than 65"

  • Bit the bullet and bought "Sony X7000D 55" 4K UHD HDR Android Smart LCD TV $1198.40" yesterday. So far quality seems good and android has it's bugs but I straight away was able to kill my Telstra TV and iNUC running Kodi so I think it's a win-win.
