wouldn't the postage remain the same as it is now unless they offer free shipping as well? it just told me $9.95 standard postage to my postcode in sydney.

    • Haha that's a good point. I just tried a few, Mel, syd, bne were 9.75, per, ADL 11.75, hob 12.75

  • Gigabyte brand.

  • Crap that's cheap

  • is this the best amd model on the market? and is it better than 1070?

Not better than 1070, in line with 1060.

The best AMD model would have to be the MSI gaming X and the PowerColour Red Devil variants. This graphics card (gigabyte) has a few issues in regards to its temperature. There have been reviewers that have been complaining about the card running too hot specifically reaching 80 degrees Celsius at max load and I think it was at a high fan load as well. The best advice I can recommend is, if you want to purchase this card then take a look at some of the reviews on YouTube specifically Jayztwocents since he did a video where he discusses some of the issues I mentioned above in more detail.

      • need to look at dates of reviews and drivers they are using, my son has and Rx480 and it runs fine, and uses less power than Nvidia. The day zero drivers (first driver) made the RX480 cards (regardless of brand run fast and use lots of current). They revised the drivers to draw less current without impact on performance as people complained needing bigger power supplies. Like all things software …. they even update phone software to extend battery life.

So it's not just cards, check the driver revision …… if you are seeking advice from reviews.

Gigabyte G1 or some other RX 480?

  • Bought this card in September. I didn't like it at the start due to it crashing mid gaming. Had to play around with Wattman to get the settings right. But the recent driver update has fixed all of my issues. Pretty happy now but a bit annoyed at the start. Might get another to Crossfire being this cheap.

  • I bought this card in the eBay 20% off sale in October. Had nothing but trouble with it. Crashes constantly in any game. Wattman has limited success in stabilising it. I'm in the process of RMAing it back to Futu (Shopping Express). The RX480 cards are amazing for the price and this debacle with this card hasn't put me off them. I will be trying to swap this Gigabyte card for the MSI variant.

    • Was that with the updated drivers they put out to address the power problems?

      • The power problems were only an issue for the reference cards and was addressed with a bios update. This gigabyte card is one of the first after-market RX480s and as such has better cooling and a revised circuit board. Full disclosure: I spent a few hours troubleshooting my card with a Gigabyte engineer from America and after flashing a custom bios to my card (from Gigabyte) the card has been performing well all day today. Hasn't crashed at all and I am pretty sure the card is now stable. Not many people would go to the extremes that I have to get this card to work and many would do as I was going to do and RMA the card thinking it was broken. At this price it's definitely worth a purchase given now that I know the problems can be addressed.

        • I'm currently running a 7950, which does not idle properly when running multiple screens. At idle the core clocks down some of the way, but memory bandwidth does not at all, meaning it runs about 10c hotter with 2 screens enabled.
AFAIK this is to do with timing signals and goes away when using only displayport.
It seemed to just be the way the card worked, others reported the same and there was no fix as such.
Do you know if this still the case on the 480?
I'm tempted to get this 480 but not sure I can justify it with the 7950 still going strong.

        • @based: I'm running 2 screens on mine (HDMI and DVI-D) the "idle" clock speed is 300MHz for the GPU clock and the "load" speed is 1315Mhz (This depends on your OC though and will be different for every card). You can change this in the Wattman drivers. The memory clock is always 2000Mhz regardless of what you are doing. You can also change this in the Wattman drivers and will be dependant on your overclock.

        • @Todes Angst: Thanks for posting that, 49 Seems high for idle, is there any chance you could temporarily disable the second screen (just from windows display settings) and see if the idle temp and memory bandwidth change?
With my 7950 idling at desktop:
          1 Screen: 37C, Memory 150MHz, Core 300 MHz
          2 Screens: 55C, Memory 1410MHz, Core 500 MHz

        • @based: yep.

Memory clock drops to 300Mhz when idle.
Fans turn off and the GPU stays at 47ÂșC
This is the normal temp range for me when the GPU is idle.

        • @Todes Angst:
Ah damn, so bandwidth is still high with multiple screens but it doesn't seem to impact temps as much.
Looks like the fans don't kick in until 49.
I was on the fence about the card but bit the bullet at 1145, only to find the sales extended until the 30th
          Thanks again
