50

David Jones carry a limited range of Stressless products - two recliners and a few small tables. If you're happy with either model chair (Ruby or Opal) they have 20% off and if you have the Entertainment Book you can buy David Jones gift cards 10% off.

There's the Ruby in 3 sizes and 3 colours (as cheap as $2493 with Ent. Book). The slightly cheaper Opal in 3 sizes and colours (as cheap as $2516 with Ent. Book).

These are very expensive chairs. I've no experience of them so I have no idea if they're worth it. Reviews seem generally positive. The David Jones ones use the Paloma grade leather

Delivery price depends where you are and (annoyingly) they don't deliver to all areas (for example Tas).

Now you can ozbargain in style .. though you may not have much cash left after this!

    • Just get the Moran knock off then, $1495 before the Ent Book discounted GC. Then you can still shop in style with a bit more cash in your pocket.

      • Yes, but look at it (blech!), looks a clumsily designed cheap copy and having worked at Moran I know is only so so quality.

With this Stressless Large Ruby Recliner, you can stress less about your incoming credit card bill!

    price looks pretty stressful

    • Yes, but the chair does look comfy. I like that it's not a huge solid chunky thing like most recliners you see, say, in Harvey Norman. It's just that you're paying a premium because it's made in an expensive country (Norway). Then there's the usual BS markups by the time it's in a shop here. Apparently Ekornes very tightly control pricing so to be able to get them at anything less than RRP is unusual.

  • are they good quality though?

I have asked about this @ Berkowitz
    http://www.ekornes.com.au/stressless-recliners/stressless-no…

2 recliners with foot stools, one 3 seater sofa
    quoted $13,000

    extremely comfy to sit on
and a gentle (not rapid recline)
almost feels as it you are gradually sinking in

I would purchase if I knew it was good quality (ie built to last)
however could not find any reviews

Boy they're quite different. You'd need a huge room for that. Isn't the seat too long? I suppose you just bung a few cushions on. Very different type of seat.

I have seen some reviews of stressless where people complained about the leather deteriorating, but it could be that they got the wrong grade of leather for their use and how good they were at maintaining it.

I just saw a thing on a The Checkout repeat about what 'leather' means. There's all types from proper full grain (which is what you think leather means), to quite nasty grades that have none of the original surface and they create the outer surface artificially. The worst of this is the stuff you see the top layer peeling off.

Stressless seem to have various grades from cheaper, easier to clean/maintain, but not so soft - through to softer, more genuine feeling leather that is harder to maintain and a bit more delicate (no kids or animals).

I'd buy the recliners, but not sure about the couch. You might be able to get a cheaper couch that suits the Stressless. Depends on the quality/price equation.

I'd rather get 10 gliders currently on sale at baby bunting for the same price. These are so comfy, don't need a kid to enjoy these. Plus those side pockets.

    • Or 3000 camping chairs? I'm at the point where I am prepared to pay if the item is good quality. I'm a bit over rubbish quality Chinese stuff.

I have seen amazing quality chinese furniture (in China) with prices that reflect the quality. It's a shame they don't bring them here, but consumers tend to demand crappy stuff based upon what they are willing to pay.

        • I didn't mean all Chinese stuff, just the rubbish or less than premium, which yes, we all know is what most people want.

  • Good corporate video here. Shows how the reclining mechanism works.

  • Didnt know posh people knew about ozbargain.

    • all the savings they make via ozbargain, goes towards their posh purchases :)

      • and you don't have one of the following (or similar items):
        1. a Dyson vac
        2. a car that cost more than $25,000
        3. A TV that cost more than $1000?

Couldn't any of those be considered more than required to do the job, therefore 'posh' by your simplistic definition?

Depends how much you use something doesn't it? Also how much you value comfort and longevity. As it happens I have issues that make it very difficult to be comfortable in any position (I'm a Princess and there are peas everywhere), so I'm willing to spend a bit to try to achieve it. I also don't mind spending more on a purchase that will last.

I bought a $700 Fantastic Furniture couch that I've had to re-stuff once and it's failing again. It's not that comfortable. If I'd had the money at the time I would have spent five times that for something that will be comfortable and last decades.

  • Try independent retailers first, my old man got two recliners (new imports in a custom colour, not floor stock) delivered for $5400 from Indigo Living (Kawana Waters QLD) after a bit of negotiation in store.

  • If you're considering these, it's definitely worth checking the rest of the range at a Stressless dealer as each model feels quite different. There's a deal on till the end of the month to get any of the first three grades of leather for fabric price, or the top grade of leather for entry level leather price. Saves roughly $350-400.

  • The delivery time for a chair bought at a Stressless dealer is 10-13 weeks! I'm not sure if the David Jones ones are that slow.
