  • they must be close to the expiry date. Can you check

    • I actually can't find it on the can at all

    • +3

Do cans food have a listed expiry date? Don't think they do

      • +1

Some canned fish have a best before date of about 3 to 5 years, but well canned food should last much longer. There are plenty of videos on youtube of people opening decade old food and it being perfectly fine… as long as the can is intact.

Hasn't The Walking Dead taught you anything :) lol

    4060 represent!

  • That's pretty cheap, don't think I've ever seen it at $5.40 a KG.

  • +4

Cats food sorted for the next few months

    • +3

You have some lucky cats hahah

      • +8

        I'll happily be your 'cat'.

        • Do you have furballs?

    • +4

Canned tuna isn't fortified with vitamins cats need. It would be good as a treat however.

    • nah even the cats got standards

    • Save money by using this as cat food and later on be making money when your cat is the world's fattest cat lol.

  • +1

Thats so cheap. They were cheap at $2 each last month, $1 is crazy.
Hopefully not a single store special only.

  • +17

They should be cheaper. Worst sustainability record of the most popular tuna brands. Made in indonesia - no longer an australian product and has nothing to do with italy contrary to very clever (deceitful?) marketing.
    /rant over/

    • Mmmm dolphin rendang!

At the end of the day, it still tastes good lol

      • +1

That kind of logic leads to the eating of human flesh.

      • +2

Huh, so Coles generic tuna is basically the best tuna you can buy for the environment with 0 negatives?

        • I think they use the wrong pic, 185mg $1.50 is net, the 185mg $2 can is fishing line at coles

  • +1

Processed tuna would have a best before date, not a used by date. Maybe a BB code under can? But lets face it, 5 years down the track the bacteria would still be zero. Only flesh colour may change etc. Lastly, I think Sirena is Thailand tuna.

  • Just wondering, whats the difference between Sirena, greenseas and john west tuna brands?

also whats the difference between skip jack and yellow fin tuna?

    • +3

The difference between Sirena and the other brands is as big of a difference as a normal CBR250 and a CBR250RR!!

Once you try Sirena, you won't go back to the others.

      • Difference is Serena is pack with tuna whereas the others are packed with gravy.

        • I can only eat tuna after cooking it in curry and oil and onions, so it makes no difference.

    • +1

My personal take, John West is all mushed up (pass). Sirena is yellowfin and is good, but it is still a thai product last time I looked and not worth the usual premium over….
sadly Black and Gold in oil! At $1.15 for 185g, it is sustainable Skipjack, and 71% tuna (both Coles and now Woolies are only 65% tuna, not sure about Serena) and when you open the can it is recognisable as tuna (not a can of mush). Chuck and can in with 2 min noodles Nasi Goreng and you got yourself a poor mans wok in the box, and probably an equivalent protein shake.
      Tastes good, looks good, cheap.

    • most "thailand" tuna would be from two OEM
not a lot would be different from these. There is no point of paying more for branded one when woolworths Coles Aldi brand would leave from same the factory.

Unless you think fish fillets are circular then of course its not a whole fillet!

Not quite sausage either - https://youtu.be/B02S3GOILW4

They had them at the Southern Cross Woolworths too.

    • When did you last saw it because I called up the store and they said that they don't have them on special

      • There was a bin of them near the frozen food section, I didn't pay them much notice until after reading this post as I don't like Tuna, but as far as I remember they had them on special.

    Thanks random Ozbargain friend!

    • You only got 10? BTW i like your cat.. shes (he?) cute!!!

    • Not on special at my local Woolies…your cat's doing better than me..

      • Nice, now let's see your pyramid of eneloops

    • The chilli ones are more appropriate for cats !

  • Whats the difference between serina and john west or seagreen?

Previously an unheard of bargain, canned tuna has seen a surge in popularity with the OzB community over the last two years.

In other news, the first Sirena tuna bargain was posted two years and three days ago. Great stuff. Back to you, OP.

      BREAKING NEWS

OzBargain Historians have confirmed the earliest recorded Sirena Tuna bargain as far back as 7-01-2010 by gandhi28152.
This was a commonly found price of $1 for 100g, not as great of a bargain as this rare find discovered by qtmai today while trekking out at Ashgrove Woolworths.

The OzBargain tribes have descended upon Woolworths in droves nationwide to collect these prestigious finds.

We now go back to our bargain hotspot.

Thanks Malouphix. The White House Reception Committee greeted the Prime rib roast Minister, and I do the cha-cha like a sissy girl. I "lika"… do… da cha-cha. I'm sorry, we seem to be having some "tactical" difficulties…

  • Will coles price match?

    • Yes of course, give it a try.

Yellowfin > Skip Jack. $1 for these such a bargain.

Great price for a great product. I don't know what it is but this is the best tuna on the market

  • I picked up a carton of 36 cans as well 21 loose cans. Checkout operator scanned the barcode on the carton. 36 cans for $1!! Overall 57 cans for $22 = 39c per can. Total savings $205.43.

There were still a couple of cartons over near the sushi bar if anyone is interested. Can't guarantee same thing will happen at checkout.
