Ashampoo Burning Studio 2017 is a powerful burning application that covers various use cases. Most burning requirements can be handled by the program "IMGBURN" (http://www.imgburn.com/) which is lightweight and free making it a much better choice than a bloated application like this.

    • +2

A shampoo is nice and light nothing compared to programs like nero

      • +2

Yeah I hate the shampoos that remain greasy in your hair.

    • +1

      Agreed. imgburn much safer.

      • I've used Ashampoo products over the years. They're safe. I've had some problems with imgburn when burning iso's. I should try them again.

    • Unfortunately ImgBurn doesn't seem all that 'lightweight'. A simple google search will show many cases of people being infected with malware, more specifically PUPs (potentially unwanted programs) from the ImgBurn installer. Apparently the ImgBurn installer uses OpenCandy, which is an advertising software module that attempts installation of additional third party applications that may be unwanted by the user.

      • +1

It is easy to package junk with the ImgBurn installer and redistribute it.

It isn't a problem with ImgBurn, just make sure you get it from a trusted source

    • Another alternative is the free version of BurnAware: http://www.burnaware.com/download.html

    People still burn onto discs?

    • +1

Yes it is good to burn onto dics because it wont get affected by virus.

      • +12

Not if you burn the virus on that disc

        • +1

I can give someone a 50c disk and not have to worry about getting a USB stick back that could be infected or losing $5.

(Some USB is down to as little as $2.50 for 8GB as of this morning on OzB, but they are very slow to write to….much slower than a disk - and still cost 5x as much!).

        • @syousef:

A lot of people don't even have CD drives anymore.

        • @serpserpserp:

Anyone with a 5 year old PC would. Most of my friends still have them…and if not they can play photo and video files on a DVD player attached to the TV.

        • @syousef:

Even less people I know still have a DVD player!

        • @serpserpserp:

You and I clearly know different people.

    • +2

Yea, I burn music on to disc.

The music quality sounds much better than Bluetooth or through AUX in my car anyway.

      • -1

Cars still have disc players? Would've thought USB is the way to go these days.

        • Not all ozbargainers are buying new cars…

        • -1

          @goodguy:

Pretty sure USB/MP3 became standard, before bluetooth AD2P (as per @alreadytaken claim that he 'needs' to burn discs for his car).

        • +1

@goodguy: that's just the thing and unfortunately the only way to play music properly in mine is a CD. FM transmitters suck, no AUX/BT/USB either. So unless I replace the stock head unit and fluff around with steering wheel controls and other wiring ($500+, not including work) or buy a BT adapter for the phone cradle ($300) I'm stuck at burning CDs. :(

        • @decr:

This is probably a legitimate use-case for burning CDs…

@alreadytaken would have us believe that his car natively supports BT/A2DP, but not USB … which I doubt, is true. Let alone a legitimate use-case for burning discs.

        • @sp00ker: Yes, I actually buy CDs I like and listen to them as I seem to be stuck in that era. It's probably the cover art and booklet that you miss out on digital downloads. Plus keep telling myself that the artists get at least a fraction of the sales. If I like it, I buy it, rip it, shelve it and use the copy in the car.

    • To backup all my daughters dvds. So if anything goes wrong i can simply butn her a new copy.
Also this helps in getting into digital format for her tablet when we are on the move.

    • You would be amazed. At my previous workplace the helldesk dude burned a new copy of a windows iso onto a dvd every time he had to do a reinstall. No imaging, stock standard install iso. Burn a new copy. Every bloody time. I couldn't believe it.

  • +7

This would have been great in the 90's

    • +4

      It was 'free' then too.

  • not bad. acturally, it is a good deal. free. and what your guys complain at? :)

  • +1

nice software, already have a 2012 version by similar free, any different?

  • +1

Ashampoo is still around? i use to use their software, but haven't touched anything for years.

  • +9

Will I need Aconditioner to finalise the burns?

    • +1

Only if you want permanent ones.

  • +1

Can't say about their other products, but the burning studio is pretty good. I've been using it for 5 or 6 years.

  • +1

Anyone recommend a drive to accompany this? My past 4 laptops haven't had a disc drive…

  • +1

Completely redesigned? Just get the design right first time instead of annual releases with same lame features.

  • Have to download this file… SharewareOnSale_Giveaway_Ashampoo_Burning_Studio_2017_hub.exe to install it? Not gonna trust it…

First post and a freebie, have an upvote :)

  • Perfect! Time to hand out some mix tapes (cds)

  • Friend come over recently asking me to burn a CD for them, no drives on my laptop anymore. Kinda liked the disc collections I had.

  • Could be handy, in case someone was hoping to inspire regime change in North Korea!

This version is always free, get it straight from teh developer's site, rather than subscribe to their spamming list.

  • So if it is always free, is this really a deal?

    • Will, the link to this free full version is not public published on the vendor's website. The link to the free version on their website is a 2014 version, while this post link to the latest version.

On their website, they charge A$69 for this. So I will still call this a deal.

  • I just installed this and then realised that I dont have a CD drive……..what an idiot!
