  • Prices are after eBay discount

  • Any cheap hi-fi system, says less than $100?
    My desktop is down ATM….

  • +4

A note on these dehumidifiers, they work best to remove excess moisture in conjunction with an aircon in a hot environment or in cold damp environments.
The operating range is 5 ~32°C

    • Just wondering if it works without any air conditioning? I really hate (up the wallkind) humidity but dont have the luxury of air con in my room. Thanks!

      • Absolutely, removing humidity is what these are all about.
Just needs to be less th an 32c for these to work optimally.

  • How did that dehumidifier get 80% off??? That's a real bargain.

    In appliances online it's %260

    • +2

Because the refrigerant is R134a. which if i am correct is being phased out.

      • Is that bad?

        • We had this Omega Dehumidifier when we had a gas heater. It is a complete piece of crap. We returned it within 12 months after it died and had it repaired under warranty only for it to break again just out of warranty.

        • +1

          @Dr Prepper: I wish u commented earlier

        • @fm: Don't take one bad review as fact, all gadgets get reviewed positively and badly.

I've had mine a little over a week and it's collecting water fine, it works better with the aircon on, and my house is a small 2 bedder cottage so I think it's well suited to a small home.
Will it last 5yrs? I hope so, maybe mine will bust too, but dehumidifiers like this are so expensive, I'd never pay RRP for something like this, I constantly buy stuff like this at sale price so if it does die you won't feel too bad as it was a bargain to begin with.

        • @fm:

Sorry I just saw "Omega Altise" and the steam came out of my ears. Unfortunately the piece of crap cannot assist me with my condensation problems.

The customer service lady was a little impolite. I asked so … can we have it repaired it is just the control panel that is stuffed. (2nd time it broke the LCD panel would illuminate but there were no characters it would just be the back light… and the thing is we hardly used it.

        • @Dr Prepper: well I suppose $68 is worth the risk

Any feedback on the Classica 10cm Round Cast Iron Mini Casserole ? Or is there a better deal around?

    • good deal on this but 10cm is too small for me

    • +1

10cm is a pot for ants.

  • Can the Ioniser be turned off?

    • +1

Yep. You need to turn it on. It's not on by default.

  • +2

Thanks. Just bought one; fantastic price. Now well have 2 in the house and I won't have to drag the first one around. Its amazing how much moisture comes out of a room.

    • +3

      And still no upvote?

    • +3

still haven't upvoted this post! upvote it please!
I mean you bought it so it must be a good bargain right?

      • +1

        Some people only take :(

And somehow I got a neg for pointing this out.

  • +1

I'd been watching the previous deal on the Yamaha MCR-N560D, then when the extra 20% came up it was a done deal for me. Thanks to original poster.

  • Thanks! Was looking for a deal on these. Perfect timing.

  • Thanks OP. Got a Dehumidifier. Great price!

  • Will these dehumidifiers help in the instance where the weather is hot and humid and the evaporative air-conditioning is struggling to keep things cool? We have ducted evaporative air-con in our (open plan) house and when conditions are humid it can struggle to really cool things down inside.

Would a dehumidifier like this help or really be too small/not powerful enough to make much of a difference?

    • +1

Yes it should definitely help as evaporative cooling losea effectiveness in humid conditions but a small unit like this would be limited in effective area. I would assume 28M2 would be about tops and the ambient temperature needs to be under 32c for this unit to work properly, so better in an individual room.

      • +1

Thanks for the comprehensive reply KT, appreciated :)

      • +1

I doubt it will. The ducted evaporative ACs I know use outside air. If that outside air is humid it will not evaporate much water and thus not cool down the air flowing through it. This de-humidifier will only make the inside air less humid. It won't help you cool down anything. But of course high humidity in itself makes a hot day even worse for some people, it will help those people feel more comfortable.

  • Tempted by the dehumidifier.
Don't have much of a humidity problem as far as I think.
Live in Melbourne where the heat is dry, and we have a window air con so no condensation.
However, I frequently buy these things http://mydaiso.com.au/index.php/house/moisture-absorbent-cha… to put in every room of the house, and they fill up fast … so maybe I'll break even after a couple of years of not having to buy those actually …

    • +3

You can lifehack and buy calcium carbonate granules from a poolshop to do the same thing.

      • Never thought about that before. Great lifehack, thanks :)

      • I think it's calcium chloride

        • +1

My mistake, it is calcium chloride. You can also put it in stockings and hang it over a bucket so you just remove water as you go.

      • +10

I just cover my whole carpet with rice. Also works and after a few hours the grains get soft enough to eat, so that's lunch and dinner sorted too.

        • OMG

        • +1

          Just Ozbargain Things

        • I tires that once but the crabs ate all the rice.

  • is this thing help Asthma kids?

    • +1

      Dry air usually exacerbates asthma.

  • Thanks Op! bought the dehumidifier.

  • +5

Remember CashRewards people … 1.25% off (= 99 cents on the humidifier!). Yes, I know, I've got goose bumps too.

  • +1

Thankyou for posting this! My friend has wanted the door gym for ages, but the cheapest I could find was $50 (Kogan). He will love it!

  • +1

Thanks mate. Got the door gym. Can't wait to put it behind the door and wait for next new year resolution to kick in!

  • Thanks for posting the link, bought the stereo. Looking forward to it.

  • +2

    Don't need a dehumidifier…. but it's 80% 0ff…. must… resist…

  • I have a stupid question, would the dehumidifier reside dust and dust particles in the air or is it purely moisture ?

    • +1

It has a simple mesh dust filter in the intake and any dust that does get through would just get collected in the condensation on the cooling fins and drip into the tank. So not really a dusty remover.

      • I see thankyou for answering :)

  • Thanks OP. I got issues with condensation during winter time in one of my rooms. I bought a second hand delonghi but didn't work. Hopefully a brand new one will.

Didn't buy a new one before because of the price.

  • Have got a fish tank with no lid (around 800ish litres), so not sure whether I need a humidifier- does anyone know if it'll be a good idea to help with moisture? Losing a few litres each day, so I'm not sure if that's sustainable…:/

    • +2

Maybe get a lid for your tank first! Dehumidifiers cost the same as a small refrigerator to run, so a lid would be cheaper in the long run.

      • +1

Ah…Just checked specs, 370W is quite a bit to be running constantly. Now to find a lid! Thanks

        • Your local aquarium shop should be able to organise a lid for not much money. Will protect your tank lights as well.

  • Has anyone used the Phoenix Fitness Resistance Door Gym? I'm keen but skeptical of how effective it is

  • The same dehumidifier from Grays on line in eBay selling 55.20 after CSUNNY20. RRP 349.Any difference?

    • There are two so,es to hold the water

  • Sorry. Got it. It's the 16L.that's the difference.

  • Also note that the dehumidifier didn't come with any castor wheels so you have to buy some probably at bunnings.

  • +1

That Yamaha system ticked all the boxes for me thanks for the post OP!

  • Is there a good deal on a bigger cast iron casserole? 10cm is too small.

    • +1

Can't find anything at any of the eBay sellers, seems just that one is clearing out (probably due to size).

  • Added this in the deal now, only 3 available so can't post as a separate deal:

    Mistral MTD6 Tumble Dryer 6kg $111.95 Delivered (RRP $349.95)

Was $189.90 until Dec 15, dropped to $139.90, now $111.95 with the 50% off code. 6KG Dryer with 2 star energy rating. Can see deals here for the older 4kg model with 1.5 star, surprisingly good but limited reviews for that one.

    Edit: Sold out quickly

  • I have 135m living room (3 rooms in one large dorless room). Would this work… ?

  • Dehumidifier arrived today. Had it running for the better part of 4 hours now and it hasnt generated a single drop of water in the tank. Anybody else had issues with theirs? Humidity in the house is 65% so I would think it should have enough to work with.

    • I whacked mine on yesterday, my place is very open plan but small. Initially it was detecting green (50-70% humidity), let it run for 3-4hrs and dipped down to 40% red, collected water, so it's doing it's job. But soon after the wife arrived home, put some eggs onto boil and the four of us (us + 2 kids) were in the space it shot back up to blue 70%!
I'm gonna phone Omega, I'm not even sure what to be aiming for, perhaps more than one unit is required etc.

Yours sounds defective imo, I had quite a bit of water (maybe 2-3 glasses worth) in the same time as you with the same 60%ish. I had mine set to continuous and put on high.

    • Had mine on for an hour and i collected a decent amount of water. I think yours may be defective.
I set mine on High and "Dry" settings and timer for an hour.

      • +2

I think that's exactly adzzz position, "high and dry".

  • +2

    PLEASE NOTE:
These units contain a compressor, just like a fridge or aircon.
It is important to let the machine sit upright overnight after receiving it otherwise you might damage it when you turn it on.
    Why is it so?
Oil from the compressor will make it's way up the dryer pipes when it's tipped over during transport. It needs to settle back down into the compressor bath and this takes some time. Oil cannot compress like refrigerant gas and will damage the compressor when it's started.

They have another model available that is more efficient.
Listed here is the 20 litre per day model but there is also the 16 litre per day model. The unit is the same physical size but users a fair bit less power and is cheaper at $55.20
The 20 litre per day model listed here uses >390watts whereas the 16 litre per day model uses >260 watts and they both service 150m3 per hour. I think the 20 litre model would only be required in the most extreme humid environments. The water tank is 5 litres in both cases.
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/381836600649?_trksid=p2057872.m27…

    • Interesting, I didn't read that anywhere, in either case mine sat for quite a few hours upright on the verandah before I got it out and used it, seems to be fine.

I'm definitely getting a quicker drop of 70>50 is the aircon is on also, otherwise it kinda hovers around 60.

It's collecting a fair amount of water, so even if I think it's not doing much, the water collected says otherwise. I would say in less than 24hrs use I have emptied about 3/4 of tray (in drips and drabs).

Is the goal to get down to the red light (40%)? I must admit im a little confused over the scale of red to blue etc…

      • I think that all depends what kind of humidity level your comfortable with.
Or maybe you bought it to deal with a mold issue in which case I'm guessing less is better.
I'm going to basically use it on those hot days where it rains for a week to see if it helps any.

        • I think once you get the humidity under 40-50%, mold can't grow.

    • Huh you think something that important would be on a notice in big red letters when you open the box.

      • Yes, its correct anything with a oil bath refrigerant compressor.
I think it just gets forgotten with companies ordering from China in huge scale, with allowances for "failures" but not actually manufacturing themselves.
Here is the manufacturers page with specs and manual download. http://www.omegaaltise.com.au/product/product_details/Wellbe…
