Free shipping please. IMO shoppingsquare always have 'okay' deal but their shipping cost kills off. Not sure if they purposely mark up the shipping or they just simply don't have a good shipping arrangements with couriers.

    • +1

Yeah, totally agree. $14.99 to WA. Ouch!

  • +2

Mm… danilochan - what do you think? Free shipping for OzBargainers?

    • +5

I cannot make any further cut for this deal. I am working on another free shipping deal (but not a hard drive) for ozbargainers. please check it later.

      • +3

Thank you for looking into it at the very least :)

  • +1

not bad price even plus $10 shipping, but with free shipping it will obvioiusly become a hotter post.

  • +3

ALSO PICK UP OPTION PLEASE Shopping Square

  • $13.99 Shipping to SE Vic, not too bad if its packed well and arrives in a day or 2.
How long does shipping normally take with these guys ?
@ 7200 RPM these might be an ideal choice for my next RAID array.
    Pity i'm broke atm :(

  • Arghh, wish I hadn't wasted that $20 voucher already. :(

    • oh, how did you get the voucher?

      • It was a deal listed on Ozbargain a couple of months ago. From memory I think you just had to sign up and received a $20 voucher.

  • Yeah, $21 for shipping on 2 drives? hmm

  • +1

OOPS, the total maximum quantity per customer for product "Hitachi 2TB Deskstar 7K1000.C Hard Drive HDD" during promotion is limited to 2.

there goes the raid 5 idea… even if they where a better price.

    • +2

btw, drives from the batch will tend to fail at the same time, I like to mix them up

      • +2

I've been caught on this one before. Never buying multiple drives for a RAID setup from the same batch again!

  • +1

Wow, even cheaper than 9829's deal.

    • +3

      not after shipping tho

      • +2

Yeah, it's about $1 or 2 more than 9829's offer after postage is taken into consideration.

        • +1

Not only is it $2 to $5 more than 9829's offer due to shipping, this drive has only 32MB of data buffer cache compared to the 64MB of the WD. Though this advantage is marginal, I'd still rather have the WD, get double the cache, and save a couple bucks to boot.

          • +1

            @Rezguise: Fair reasoning :)

            • +1

@MiCCAS: Verily, 9289's deal is dead, so this deal is a great replacement for those who thought they missed the ~$150 2TB HDD boat.

              • +1

@Rezguise: Yeah but the WD drive is a 5400rpm drive, this is 7200rpm.

This should go a lot quicker when cache doesn't make the WD outperform

                • +3

@GreatWhiteHunter: Absolutely, although the downside of this is the extra heat and mechanical stress that extra 1800rpm causes, thus reducing the life expectancy & reliability of the drive. (generalising a bit)

                  • +1

@_Dan_: Yeah i'd have to say it won't affect most people, overall this is much prefferable to me!

                • @GreatWhiteHunter: It all depends on what you're going to use the drive for. i.e.
For everyday computing: 7200rpm beats 5400rpm on file access time.
Whereas for an AV media drive: 64Mb beats 32Mb cache for large files buffering and the slower spin speed makes for a quieter and longer lasting drive.
                  Makes sense?

    DEATHSTARS!

    • +2

The Deathstar moniker was valid around 2000 to 2002. IBM's hard drive division was then sold to Hitachi. I think 8 years of R&D should have been enough to iron out the bugs, don't you?

  • -1

    DEATHSTAR!

I had one arrive DOA for me. Not from shopping sq but another place.

These hard drives run hot and arent as good imo.

  • :-S PICKUP OPTION COME ON!!!!

  • $13.99 POSTAGE + $139.95 ?? better off if I buy from the computer store next door.

Mod: User is referring to Centrecom which doesn't stock this hard drive. Vote revoked.

    • +6

you live next door to a computer store? that sells hdds that cheaply? I'm comin' over

    • +1

Oh, great - can you please show us some evidence of this price? 22 people, and counting, this this is a brilliant deal - so I'm sure they would all appreciate it if you could show them where you have found it cheaper.

  • Can't find any information at Hitachi about this drive, 'Deskstar 7K1000.C Hard Drive', being a 2TB drive.
Might want to confirm what drive it is - 7K1000c or the 7K2000 variant

  • +1

They need to work on their shipping costs, possibly choose a different courier company that doesn't charge obscenely high prices for shipping.

Maybe they should do what PCCG did and switch to Australian Air Express.

    • Last time I bought something from them they sent it through Aus Post. I could be wrong.

      • Hmm, I remember that they used Toll IPEC, that was last year though.

    • i rmb buying hdds from them last yr… came with enough bubble wrap to hide a dead body =x

    • I'm not sure why people get so hung up about who the courier company is. Companies make sure they get a bottom line out of an item, and whether they obtain that bottom line from the item or the shipping or a combination of both, that's their business.

It's not the deal they're getting from the courier company, it's the amount they're charging the consumer. A courier company may have a special where they're charging the company 1 cent per delivery, and if that company is using the shipping to ensure their bottom line they're going to keep charging $20 or whatever.

As a customer, just add the item cost and the shipping cost, and if it's still cheap as hell, buy it. If the shipping takes it over what you're willing to pay, go somewhere else.

      • +1

You have a point here but problem is we don't know which one is it. It could be that they do not have a good deal with courier company thus passing the huge shipping fees to customer or it could be that they just simply mark up their profit by expensive shipping. If it is the latter then there's nothing we could do. If it is the former then they have got enough feedbacks from customer to start looking at adjusting the shipping costs for their sales.

  • So glad I still have my $20 voucher from a previous Ozbargain deal :)

  • Awesome - was sitting on the fence about this one as you can get some 2tb drives for pickup $150 staticice - but then noticed the 7200rpm and snapped it up

    $10 postage to sydney

  • Hitachi site says this model number is a 1TB drive not 2TB-has anyone got theirs to confirm?

    • I was wondering about that, in an earlier post.

The key thing that says it's a 2TB drive is this code, '0f10311', found in the upper right side of shoppingsquare.com.au web page, unless they got that wrong too!

Google 0f10311 and it comes up as a Deskstar 7k2000 2TB HD

  • Ok thanks for that.

  • Which one is better? Hitachi or WD??

    Centrecom sales WD 2TB 7200RPM 64MB SATA for $153.

    http://www.centrecom.com.au/catalog/product_info.php?sort=2a…

    This deal: $139.95 + 13.99 P & H = $154.

My company is close to Centrecom Blackburn, I can just pick it come rather than wait for few days. If something is wrong, can swap for a new one straight away.

    • The WD drive you're talking about is much slower than this one.

  • -1

Sorry but can you tell me how can WD is slower than Hitachi. both of them are 7200RPM, Data buffer of the WD is 64MB while this one is 32MB.

    • -1

      My preference is the WD

      • agree with richim
the wd hdd (WD20EARS) is only 5400rpm
        this hitachi hdd is 7200rpm

price went back to $164.95 already…. missed out!
        :(

  • Out of stock?

and the price has gone up to $164.95
