  • is class4 suitable for mobile phone storage? would you notice lag for photos, music or videos?
I still have two 32gb class4 around, cant use them in dashcams or cameras

    • My understand is that class 10 only applies to use in cameras of being able to maintain X write speeds in order to keep up with you taking photos, so that there's no lag

Class 10 isn't the spec you need to be aware of for phones
You're best off looking at reviews of the individual cards

Yes it's write speed that is the issue, not do much for photos, more for movies. Although the Ulta SD cards now claim 80mb , that is read speed and I but the extreme cards now for my cameras …..Still only 89mb read but much faster write.

It should theoretically work but I wouldn't recommend it, given that class 10 cards are dirt cheap anyway. Even if you can read odf the card ok, it will take you significantly longer to put the music on the card in the first place and you probably won't be able to use the card for mobile phone camera use either.

    • It's fine for mobile storage but if you want to ever actually transfer stuff onto it it will be incredibly slow.

    • It is too slow for Android 6.0 and above if you decide to use your sd card as internal storage(pretty useful feature but i still dont like it. Class 10 isnt fast enough for it either. U2 and U3 are recommended and there are noticeable lag. If you are using it as portable storage there will be minimal lag

  • at these prices…..no

      You want it for free?

      • Not free, but no more than $2 for a class 4 8GB card.

        • +1

Got a link to a name brand genuine card at that price?
          I would buy dozens.

        • @mskeggs: Nope, but that's the price I am willing to pay for a class 4 8GB card now a day, which is different from a class 10 card.

        • @edfoo: Agreed, $2 - $3 is there really worth, considering you're taking up a slot. I'd seriously rather pay $7 for a 16GB than $2 for an 8GB if i only had to choose one. At 5.56 for 8GB or $7.16 for 16GB, no brainer.

      • There have been deals for free 8GB Class 4 cards before😯
(Norton included them with Internet Security, which sold in HN deals here for $20 with $20 cash back.)

  • and why stop at 32GB? where are the 64GB ones? hopefully $15

    • +1

I guess there is not point manufacturing a class 4 64GB card now a day. You can only find class 10 widely available.

  • +1

Wow Class 4 you will be waiting for ages to shift GBs of data.

    4 MB/s write speed as a minimum.

  • +1

Why buy class 4 when class 10 is just a bit more <$1 different.

When 64gb class 10 is under $20 I will hand over my cash
