The irony of this device (and in general) is that they cost a lot to save a little. I could buy 1400kWh of electricity for the price of the entry level unit. I suppose in a big house with a big family and lots of electrical items it may make sense, but how much electricity will you need to save to recover the cost of the monitor? I reckon it would take years at best.

    • bought a Watts Clever usage monitor for about $75 two months ago. Cheaper than this one, possibly not as good but does the job.
When I get home I immediately know how much the wife has been running the aircon for and at what times :-)

        Ouch!

That's the problem with having a hot wife!

I use the Efergy version of this. I like looking at numbers; I prefer being able to get realtime feedback on my electricity usage so I know what usage patterns causes the most change, rather than trying a few things, then waiting three months to receive a bill, digging up last year's bill, and comparing usage.

I liken it to owning a bathroom scale. If someone wants to lose weight they can just start exercising more and watching what they eat. They can weigh themselves once every 3 months at a friend's house. That'll work fine for some people, but I'd rather spend some money and get my own bathroom scale so I can weigh myself every day or every week and track my progress, then match up what habits results in what weight change, which would allow me to tailor habits to suit.
