That's a lot for a set of speakers. At this price why wouldn't you go for bookshelf speakers?

    • +1

I think 5.1 is a different use case.

Disregarding that, what alternatives would you recommend?

    • +10

No its actually pretty cheap for this speaker system. They are really good.
Keep in mind, this has sub, built in amplifier and a decent 5.1 surround.

    • +2

A lot? For a good set of quality speakers, an amplifier with up to 5 inputs that decodes THX and DTS as well?

These are a pretty decent quality of surround sound set. I know people who have had these fro 10+ years (or the last version of) and they still sound damn good.

This is cheap. MSY have them for $359 and generally no where else has them cheaper.

Thanks for the share Tony555. Might go find a set.

      • +2

Sounds good, bud. Yeah, I have the older model (Logitech Z5500). Still kicking hard!!

      • decodes THX

THX isn't a codec - I think you meant Dolby.

S/PDIF (over coaxial or TOSLINK) has long been replaced by (HDCP over) HDMI, so, buyer beware. For example, TOSLINK was recently removed from PlayStation 4 Slim.

    • Not alot at all

  • you can't buy these online at The Good Guys store

So how will you get an OW price match?

    • +3

That's why I said 'Possibly'. These speakers come up when you search them under Logitech: https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/logitech

Last time I did a price beat at Officeworks, they just rang TGG to see if they had the item instore.

Seems like gg are trying to get rid of logitech stock
    First Bluetooth speakers, now this
Temping, if quality of bts are anything to go by

  • Good price, I got them on sale at DSE from this deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/216748

I haven't seen them fall to this price since then.

  • +1

Just called up Bankstown, and the guy said the only store that has them in NSW is Dubbo :(

    • +5

A real Ozbargainer would do that drive

  • Does anybody know if this will take input from 3.5mm cord out of PC for 5.1 sound? My motherboard specs say 8 channels but it only has the one audio output.

    • +1

The volume control has headphone out and AUX in so this should get you by. Though this obviously wouldn't be true 5.1, just stereo playing out of 6 speakers.

    • +1

That would be unusual - what motherboard? Usually if they only have three jacks they repurpose (reassign in software) other jacks (line in, microphone) so you have three 3.5mm outputs (L/R, Centre/Sub, Rear L/R).

The Z906s will take 3.5mm outputs x3, RCA stereo, optical digital or coax digital.

      • It is Asus Z170-P Intel LGA1151 ATX Motherboard.

        • As McFly points out, you have three audio jacks on your board.

    • My motherboard specs say 8 channels but it only has the one audio output.

Well they can't both be true.

Edit: Oh, that board has three audio outputs - saw them in the picture in seconds…

      • They are labeled 'Mic In' 'Line In' and 'Line Out'. I will check out KevinL's suggestion that they can be repurposed with the software.

    • Just spend 20-30 bucks for soundcard

      • +1

        Change to Hunterwastetimeandmoney

  • Damn, I've been waiting for these to go on sale since forever.

There use to be a very nice selection of 5.1 computer speaker systems in Australia, but for whatever reason the stores started only stocking the z506

  • I got these from this deal yonks ago and have never looked back. No doubt you can get bookshelf speakers for the same price that will sound better, but for a surround sound solution for a PC these are awesome and this price is great.

  • I got these for $265 from OW about 2 years ago; great price; decent set would recommend

  • How do these compare to the old z5500 ? I still have my z5500 and they are running fantastically.

    • +1

They're similar but the z5500 is superior. Keep it.

      • I wouldn't even say they're similar, the z5500s are way better (had to leave mine in NZ when I moved to Australia, the Z906s are… okay.)

        • +1

Better sub for z5500. Because more power consumption.

But z906s is enough for gaming anyway. U will not use full power anyway, as long u have normal ears. Its too loud

        • @Hunterbargain:

So only cos the sub has more power output?

        • @Hunterbargain: '

I also prefer the satellites, they have a more balanced/natural sounding output IMO

        • @Hunterbargain:

          @cVonC
U can say that. More or less. But for details just find z906 vs z5500 comparisons.

Short explanation. More power = more power output. Bigger sub, make it easier to produce lows.

But from my experience. Z5500 to z906. Less bass. And smaller sub. Better box but.lol.

          @KevinL
I do agree. Use these speakers outside from gaming is a bit too much. Because overbass. But because less low at z906. It sounds more natural.

But for 200ish bucks. Its still a good bargain

  • Z5500 is old model, but is better one.

  • I still run the Z680 system, cost me $550 over 10 years ago and still going strong. Great features for back then. Never used any of them other than just the defaults :)

    • same, except my center channel died. so just use stereo. and the remote is dead (batteries fried inside). otherwise working as before.

      • I thought my remote was dead at one point too. Gave it a little bit of clean (batteries had leaked) and working again. Only thing I do not like about the whole system is the LCD screen. Hard to see it clearly unless you are looking at it straight one. Makes its a little bit difficult to know what settings you are adjusting.

  • I've used these for my PS3/PS4 for several years. They have an optical-input which creates great surround sound. For the price these are definitely worth it.

  • If you can get them for that price (and you need speakers) don't hesitate. They are great. Have my PC hooked up to them by SPDIF (output from motherboard).

  • i paid $319……..

  • Are these better speakers than the z680? And are these as good as getting a Yamaha or Sony home theatre system speakers?

  • Anyone managed to get this speaker in-store? called up Good guys Nunawading & Chadstone VIC they both told me this has been discontinued
