Solid Laptop, Great Price. For anyone on the fence about it, now is a great time to purchase it at this price.

I know they've announced the next series with touch screen, but for a lot of people, that's not necessary.

Waiting for a better deal. Finding it a bit hard to justify after seeing a deal for $1000 Lenovo Thinkpad T460S. Hoping that deal comes back, wonder how I missed it. Only $930 after cash rewards and had a very good spec. I'd buy an XPS if they have a good outlet deal with QHD screen though.

    • They had 4 of these on the outlet with QHD touch & 256GB SSD just last week for a similar price - either sold or taken down now though. Hoping more pop up soon.

I loved that Thinkpad deal but I'm starting to value weight & thinness in a laptop these days, and the XPS is superior in that regard.

      • I'll probably pull the trigger on the first deal to repeat itself. Wouldn't mind saving $400+ and going Lenovo, it's still an ultra book and not too thick or heavy. But I was pretty set on the XPS before I saw that deal.

This is a bit smaller. 13" with a 11" footprint.

This laptop isn't about the 'performance/dollar', it's more aimed at 'Size&Performance/dollar'

True though the lenovo is also very well built and quite slim and light. Significantly more so than laptops I've used in the past anyway. Really hope that deal is repeated. I really like the XPS but it just feels a bit expensive for what you get as the screen is small and it doesn't really feel that premium. I do love the portability of it but i can manage that with any laptop. Kind of in two minds as I don't really want to part with much money. Just want something reasonably powerful and portable that will last me the next five years and won't keep me tied to the desktop all the time.

  • I am on the market for an ultrabook.
Key points are: light weight, backlit key board, full hd.

What are the experts opinion here about this Xps vs surface vs macbook air?

    • Macbook air doesn't really compete - it's lower spec, screen isn't FHD and doesn't have touch (which is technically required to call it an ultrabook…this XPS doesn't have touch either though…)

XPS vs Surface - depends on if you'd prefer a tablet or a proper laptop. I've had both and like the surface but the floppy keyboard attachment isn't nice to use on your lap. XPS is a nice solid, thin and light laptop. Surface will have the touchscreen too.

Thanks. I will keep an eye dell outlet just to get some saving a bit.

Having owned a surface 4; Make sure you get the 8gb Ram version as a minimum.

I sold my 4gb ram version. I used to edit photos on lightroom and it would struggle because it had such a high resolution screen.

If money is no object - get the surface - it will be close to $2k. This is $1360- which is A LOT cheaper.

    • Interesting. I didn't notice this when I was viewing a display unit at JB Hi Fi…

      • They don't all have it apparently.

      • +1

with JB being as loud as it is, I'm not surprised

    • Supposedly models manufactured in October have new motherboards that address the coil whine. However, it's impossible to know if this stock is the new ones or old.

I bought this last week too with the intention of upgrading the ssd myself to a larger one. A quick Google before purchase showed a few tutorials that looked simple but since then I have found a lot of people have a problem doing that with this new 6360 (kaby lake) xps.

There is a forum thread that covers most of the background here http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/software-os/f/49…

I'm going to contact Dell today to see if it can be returned without drama (I don't even have it yet).

I want the machine but not if I can't confidently change the ssd without risking it not working and NOT being able to return it due to opening it up.

If anybody can add any info on this I would like to hear it.

    • I have the 15 inch model, it gets blue screen every few hours. I don't recommend it, Dell sent tech to replace the hard-drive, motherboard and ram twice and the problem still exists.

      • +1

They should replace the CPU next. Everything else has been covered.

  • Is there any way to get a bigger SSD in this deal short of buying one, installing it and probably voiding the warranty?

    • Yes, you can message them and they create a 'custom listing' for you :)
