I still prefer the >Tronsmart 5 port USB charger because who only has 2 devices these days, especially in a family?
But this is good value for use with a Raspberry Pi.

    • Why would you use it with your rasperberry pi?

At least this comes with a cable and is about half the price, plus you can pick up today rather than wait a month! FWIW I purchased one of the others too but also purchasing one of these.

Why would you use it with your rasperberry pi?

Raspberry Pi 3 likes to have 2.4A, especially if you add a camera or USB devices and many older USB chargers don't supply above 2A.

        • +3

The official Pi 3 power supply (2.5A) is only $14.53 delivered - http://au.rs-online.com/web/p/plug-in-power-supply/9098126/

Comes with cable too, and multiple mains adapters

        • Has anyone tried this successfully with a Raspberry Pi 3?

I've got one on the way (Pi) and wondering if the 2.4a port on this power supply will be sufficient for it (recommends 2.5amps)?

Will mainly be using for Kodi so don't expect to attach other peripherals.

Grabbed a couple of these recently and thought it may suffice?

      • The Tronsmart comes with a cable as well and has quick charge with more than double the ports..

    • depends if you charge all your devices in one room, or multiple rooms around the house.

Looks exactly like the Verbatim ones which were RRP ~ $20 at Woolworths and discounted to $10 a few months ago.

  • Do ANY non-Apple chargers negotiate up to 12w or are all limited to 5w?

    • Do ANY non-Apple chargers negotiate up to 12w or are all limited to 5w?

Of course they do. Your question is pointless however you haven't specified the purpose of the charger.

  • Bought 2 - Thanks OP

  • 1A? lol

      1A? lol

What's wrong with that? Plenty of devices won't charge faster or are plugged in for longer periods or just require power so what difference does it make?

For me personally it's a deal breaker, smart phones these days pull 1.5A whereas tablets pull around 2A so 1A isn't that great

If you need two 2.4A ports and need to charge at that rate you are correct that this isn't for you but I suspect that this is suitable for 99% of households.

What about all the other devices that require a power source under an amp like netatmo weather stations? What about the people that don't care if their phone takes two hours or six hours to charge when they put it on the charger overnight? What about people who just charge things like remotes, cameras, torches etc? And so on and so forth.

Is charging at the maximum rate the best for the battery? Nope.
Do 99% of users care if the charging of their phone finishes at 11pm or 2am? Nope.
Does this charger have a 2.4A port for the impatient? Yes.
Does this charger also have a 1A port for when you don't need up to 2.4A? Yes.

If you need a faster charger get one that meets your requirements like the many five and six port charges that have features like QC and Type C ports.

          The quicker the better.

          @Maverick-au:
Its like whenever someone reviews a car, there must be at least one comment saying 'needs more power'. USB charger - obligatory 'needs more power' comment.

Why - well, um, more power is better obviously. Just because it is, I'm special and I need it

    • 2.4A + 1A. Not a lot of details on the manufacturer's page - https://www.3sixtgear.com/product/power/dual-3-4a-usb-wall-c…

They're not the manufacturer. They rebadge products out of China.

So does it mean these can be used for Qualcomm Quick charge 2.0 and 3.0 devices? Or does the smarts for those need to be specifically built into the charge adapter as well as the device itself?

    • -1

I don't think so. Charger is 1.0A, while my samsung plug says 1.67A or 2.0A. The 2.4A is for a tablet.

      Could be completely wrong.

you felt like giving advice, but didn't want the responsibility of being correct

        • -1

Perhaps you would like to give better advice?

(Also I assumed he would read the product description that did not mention Quick Charge, meaning on the balance of probabilities it does not support QC).

        • Damn, I think his unborn children felt that burn.

        • +1

The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, and wiser people so full of doubts.

    • No. This goes up to 5V/2.4A only and does not support QC2/3. They would advertise QC if it had it.

  • Thanks OP - Got 2…

  • So, micro USB port means we can't plug in the iphone lightning cable in it?

    • So, micro USB port means we can't plug in the iphone lightning cable in it?

NO. This has two type A ports and you can plug in a iPhone cable to that and charge the iPhone.

      • Thanks for clarifying that.

  • Got this as I've ordered a USB Type A to C cable for my Nexus 5x and was after a high power output adapter.

Got it (Harvey Norman Burnie have one left) and the included cable unexpectedly (included cable looks and feels cheap) with a Xiaomi USB C adapter my Nexus 5x says "rapidly charging".

I do have a USB voltage and amperage tester at home to try and will update when I do test it. I also have a few other devices to try it on.

    All in all, a bargain!

  • eBay has generic USB chargers with the 2A+1A outputs, albeit no cable. Is this particularly better or just being more reliable as it's branded?
These days though got plenty of older chargers even if they are a little slower. Most times I'm in no rush to charge.

    • Although they are all most likely manufactured in china, I would opt for the branded as they undergo testing and quality control unlike their generic counterpart.

  • RRP $38? For a dual USB charger? Tell him he's dreaming!

  • I bought one for $15 from office works, same specs, similar design,

  • This charger is not a QUICK charger. Charging my Samsung Note 5 is slower than the stock 2A Samsung charger
