Lenovo IdeaPad 510-GV 15.6" FHD Laptop $798 (i5 7200U, 8GB, 1TB HDD, 920MX) @ Harvey Norman

190

As per previously posted deal, just $10 more.
Seems a decent laptop at the price. I'm looking to purchase a new laptop in store tomorrow at around this price or less, think this is probably the best offer available right now.

Reccomend you wait until next week. Tightarse is going to talk to Lenovo and see if we can get the T460S $1000 deal back.

      who is lenovo?

        He is a good man.

Everyone on the lenovo site is whinging about the battery life of the T460S. Did their driver update actually fix the issue? Any idea what the resulting battery life is after the driver update?

      • Battery life is fine
People cry because they don't realise the battery tests are based on light work

Flogging the crap out of a laptop won't yield more than 4 hours under load

My e560 gets 10-12 hours easy with the stock battery, wi-fi, 60℅ screen brightness and moderate CPU throttling

        • No people said it was 3 hours on light use and lenovo said a driver was draining excessive battery. Im jist wondering how mich of an improvement their update has made.

        • @Budju:

          Heaps
as I have said before I would take the dribble from the users on that forum / page with a grain of salt

Not being rude but I have seen these do 6 hours off a charge NO problem

      • So long as it gets at least 4 hours minimum i'll be happy. Unlikely to be without power for much longer than that anyway.

    • Heres hoping he can, we have at least 25-30 people wanting to buy

      • Add me to tbe list. Need to get one before uni starts. Is it likely to happen?

        • Im the same ,incase it doesn't come through the dell outlet has some good deals on refurb xps 13 models atm

  • is keyboard backlit

    • keyboard not backlit. Also, HN lists the specs incorrectly. GPU Chipset is actually GeForce 940MX with Graphics Card Memory 4GB.

Bought it from last deal. Would have been happy but for the constant and annoying sound of the cooling fan. Fan speed varies with conditions, but never actually idles regardless of load or temps. Commonly reported problem across the range. Have swapped mine in store for another - seems slightly better, but still a problem (for me). Other than that, good value on paper.

      • Pretty sure it's fixed in firmware

        • Def not fixed in firmware. Following relevant advice, updated to latest bios, drivers, updates etc. Ran in several power/cooling configurations, re-set windows 10, the lot. Along with others with same unit, still experiencing fan control issues. Majority of user investigations read seem to suggest a bios fix should do it…. still waiting.

        • @bigguy7:

I've never had an issue with the ones I've sold to people

Not sure about wether or not the public get access to the same firmware I do but they released a beta and it's idling fine

Try speed fan as a fan controller, should be able to set value based on load as a work around until it goes to public release

Lenovo are one of the companies I trust with firmware releases as they put them out quite often even for older models

        • @shawncro 222: Neither Speedfan, TPFanControl nor most of the 3rd party fan control utilities work on these models. Lenovo have stopped responding to Lenovo forum posts re fixing the issue, let alone acknowledge the fault. Am currently looking into user fixes posted for related models.

As for others experiencing the issue, google "Ideapad 510 fan never idling".

      • @bigguy7 Did you have to pay a restocking fee?

        • No re-stocking fee as it was a straight swap. Bought from HN online but dealt with pick-up branch. HN won't accept for refund as they claim nothing wrong with it. Still have the 2nd unit with me. Plan to sell.

        • @bigguy7: oh ok. I thought you exchanged it for a different model.
